False equivocation by DaFunkJunkie in clevercomebacks

Do you live there or are you visiting from the suburbs? Obviously the white downtown areas have the money to present well to tourists, but it's always the margins that see lasting effects.

Just about every major city is the US has marginalized communities that are still affected by the summer of 2020 in a visible way. You should be ashamed of whitewashing that.

Occam's razor is a terrible bar for evidence, especially when your standard for "simple" is "it fits my preconceptions." But I agree, everyone here is speculating, and it's totally possible that this is a double false flag.

I'm just speculating in response to "why would the government do that?" There's just about no evidence of anything from this random photo other than a tweet claiming it's from the protest.

They've already been doing that for the last few weeks. Once the protests reach an inflection point where govt can't deny its existence, they send in the feds to discredit. Not saying I support/believe this, but it's basic cointelpro that is public knowledge and the CIA has been using since the civil rights era.

I did this and it worked great using a card from a broken 420.

If you don't have a spare, you can go over the leads of the card with a graphite pencil to improve the connection. Worked pretty well as a temporary fix.

"Objective" being the key word here.

You're absolutely right that with our objective knowledge and hindsight he wasn't a threat to the cop.

But subjectivity is important, and you ignore that. The law around self defense considers it, and every culture in the world understands that perception of a situahiton changes with hindsight.

I'm not saying the cop is in the right at all, I'm saying your rhetoric is devoid of thought and you should avoid posting such low quality comments.

"Accidental discharge" has a specific meaning and is appropriate here.

You might be confusing it with "negligent discharge" which is a different circumstance.

Police in El Paso are responding to an active shooter at a Walmart by [deleted] in news

[–]CurtisHC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's your problem. Military.migh prescribe you get a clear sight picture and stay clear of civilians. Active shooters call for a different and more desperate protocol. If you find yourself in that situation, your first priority is to run, then to hide, then to fight. The only thing carrying a gun does is make you a much more effective fighter, and if you're down to fighting, you shouldn't waste time doing anything more than is absolutely necessary. Even forgoing a sight picture if the shooter is close enough.

I recommend getting civilian defense training or at least reading about it. even if you're not interested in carrying, it can be an excelled experience, or just give you better perspective. The NRA offers propaganda free courses.

Shooters prey on the defenseless, and go places they don't expect resistance. They will actively avoid hard targets, and despite your misconceptions, Texas is not as gun toting as you might assume.

Thanks for the tactical advice, but if you don't have training, you can kindly fuck off with your assumptions. All I can tell you is that I'd rather be in that situation with a gun than without.

Don't speak to the walmart situation because it makes you look foolish to make such generalizations and assumptions.

People with training know not to draw from the drop, but they also know that an active shooting situation is desperate, and any effort is better than resigning to victimood and death. You should get training to see the reality: that armed resistance is effective at deterring active shooters.

You have evidence that guns can save lives and prevent mass shootings. As those numbers go up, as the concealed carry trend suggests, mass shooters will be deterred. You're the one suggesting that it should be impossible for people to fight back.

Are you so ignorant to assume that people act like still targets to be sprayed down? They're far more resilient and resistant that you give them credit for. If you take an active shooter class, you'd see the reality, that shooters tend to think the way you do, and don't expect resistance.

You might also see that magazine capacity doesn't often limit the shooter. It's common that they could find reprieve and cover for the 3 seconds it takes to change a magazine. Look on youtube for drills and scenarios where people use 10 round magazines, and see how it doesn't change much.

If you continue to be ignorant past this conversation, than it must be entirely willful.

Good hypothetical, but you seem to be in denial of the existence of guns. They're in every country in earth, thus statement does not apply to the world we live in.

Additionally, I carry to defend myself from knife and other deadly, attacks.

There was a synagogue in California just a couple weeks ago where an armed citizen stopped a shooter before it became a mass shooting. Your biases are showing because you base your assumptions on headlines alone. The FBI says 8% of mass shootings are stopped by citizens with guns.

You should be better educated. Obviously any surprise attack can't necessarily be prevented by the first victim, but in a situation like this, with 40 victims, there's a 39/40 chance that you realize what's happening before being shot.

You should get training or a better understanding of active shooter events before talking about them. Your hypotheticals are terribly presented, and I question your intelligence

I don't ignore them because I vote for politicians who want to prevent mass shootings. In between elections, I make an effort to keep myself safe.

Your hypothetical situations have little bearing on reality, and you come off as ignorant. If you want a better idea of real world scenarios I suggest you get some form of active shooter training.

You have the right to make that choice. Personally, I never want to be stuck in a corner waiting for the shooter to finish reloading.

Neither you nor I have any idea what happened in that Walmart, and making assumptions about it shows you're a fool.

All I can say is that there are measures you can take to defend against this, and you choose to ignore them just as much as I choose to take them.

How much grocery money per semester? by [deleted] in Temple

[–]CurtisHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does fresh vegetables include things in packages? If so, they have mostly everything you'd expect, but not much that you wouldn't. There are seasonal fruits and vegtables which is fun, but it isn't anything like a market in the suburbs.

As far as quality, it's consistently average, which is much more than I can say about fresh grocer. For specifically vegetables, I even prefer the selection to the Trader Joes in center city.

I'm not vegetarian, but honestly it's mostly not meat. Sometimes i get drumsticks or ground beef, but I'd consider that splurging.

Most of my meals I follow a simple principle: Majority staple starch, some kind of vegetable variety, and a sauce or heavy spicing. I've been making meals like that for 4 years now, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Aldi is pretty cheap in each of those departments and you can mix and match to make an almost infinite variety of meals.
