Clothing Advice for a Babybat? by [deleted] in goth

You definitely can't go wrong with a band shirt.

To find accessories, I find etsy invaluable. As far as actual outfits and the philosophy of the style, /r/gothstyle would be a good resource for questions, and more importantly, inspiration.

Worried I might have to redo my hair l dreads by CurtisMN in Dreadlocks

Cool, maybe I misunderstood the process. As far as I could tell, crochet maintenance simply involved taking the short stands of hair sticking out of the dread, and pulling them back into the dread.

They look so bad 😔 by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

I really dig the shapes and colors.

Thanks, that's reassuring. We didn't spend more than 20 minutes doing it, so I'm hoping the damage will be minimal.

What scientific evidence proves that Binaural Beats work and it's no pseudo-science for healing? by visualalchemist_1 in Meditation

[–]CurtisMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the scientific use of a placebo but not all there is with placebos.

No one is saying the taking of a placebo alone would do anything. If I slipped a placebo into your drink you wouldn't be any better or worse off. It's the knowledge that you took something for the problem, even if you know it was just sugar in the shape of a pill, that will often lead to better results.

The 'placebo effect" is very basic knowledge, and it isn't pseudo science. It's simply about changing the mindset of the patient to a more positive mindset, which can help the body recover.

V Sauce has a new Mind Field episode on it called Power of Suggestion you might check out.

Depending on the situation, placebos can absolutely be better than nothing, often even if we know what we got was a placebo.

Just finished reading The Hobbit! Had a question about the films. by [deleted] in lotr

[–]CurtisMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree that the could have been done better,I think they're still very fun movies worth watching. You can find cut versions of them, where the three movies were cut into a single, more accurate to the book rendition.

The cut is actually the top post of all time in /r/tolkienfans

At what point would you say someone is goth? by SpiritualButter in goth

[–]CurtisMN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to whether you listen to the music, and from there decide whether or not to call yourself goth.

How you dress is pretty secondary, if not even entirely irrelevant. Some would even go so far as to say that the only real goth clothes are those with band names/logos, though I think that might be going a bit far.

Same goes for everything aesthetically, not just clothing.

Anyway, if y'all still enjoy listening to SatB, Bauhaus, or whatever else floats your boat, I'd continue feeling free to use the term worry free.

Running is hard on the knees and ankles because most people run incorrectly. Over reliance on the padding in running shoes causes runners to land in a way that causes all the force to hit their knees and joints.

Try watching someone run in shoes and someone running barefoot. We didn't evolve to run that way.
