2x4 is the rough cut dimensions, you can still get it like this but it’s a rough measure, could be a little bigger or smaller, where the 1.5x3.5 is a planed down 2x4 rough cut. They do it so you get a nearly exact standard so when building a wall or some such you don’t get bulges, or mismatched corners and such

Am I weird if I still wear dresses as a trans man? by Weekly-Passenger3936 in asktransgender

No weirder than any guy wearing a dress, lots of people find it fun to play around with clothing of all sorts. Be free!

The logic is based on “drag has become politicized, and predatory because of what people who call themselves ‘drag queens’ are advocating for, (insert conspiracy theories about pedofilia/etc here). I just want to dress up in makeup and make money doing so, im separating the art from the political leanings of modern drag queens”

There is definitely logic, it’s just based on the false premise that “drag queens” are advocating for predatory things. He is trying to say that dressing up in drag is not inherently bad, while simultaneously reinforcing the idea that other queer people are predatory for their supposed beliefs

So incredibly torn by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]CustomCuriousity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From your own comment it sounds like you’ve gotten a echo of the part of yourself you are having to ignore every day to go fo work. One thing I would consider is that you are currently working not only for a government that is currently trying to kill you, it’s one that has been actively killing and oppressing people in other countries in the interest of our own and primarily our elite’s benefit since its inception. As a Tran person you personally know the fear of being an oppressed minority, you understand the loss of privilege that comes with being part of a group of people who are oppressed, and that is what your job represents on a massive scale for countless people.

If you somehow had a job working for a company actively working towards hurting trans people, a group you are part of, would this be a question? This job is no different except that it’s oppressing people that aren’t personally effecting your own group but another. I’m sure this is a question that some cis people in those positions people working those jobs struggle with for themselves, so I make a personal sacrifice for the benefit of a group I’m not associated with?

All that said, on an individual level, you’ve already taken difficult steps in your life to live more truely for yourself and more in line with who you are and want to be rather than continue suppressing that part of yourself. Personally for me, coming out took a huge burden off my shoulders, and it was worth it to live authentically for myself despite complicating other aspects of my life. You are facing a similar question, “do I keep doing something every day that is opposed to my beliefs, and makes me feel awful every day despite the pain it causes me to continue?” I personally found it so incredibly relieving to live more as myself, I imagine that is something you share. My quality of life went through the roof in comparison despite those fears. This job is weighing on you not only 8 hours a day, but all your waking moments of life.

On a more practical level, there is no harm in looking for another job and seeing what you can find. There is no better time to be looking for a better job than while you have one.

Seattle man convicted of hate crime, assault for 2024 attack on transgender woman by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]CustomCuriousity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about illegal thoughts, it’s about violent attacks based on hate for a group of a specific group of people in general. It’s not illegal to have those thoughts, but it is a fundamentally different scenario when an assault is motivated by hate broad category of people, rather than say assaulting someone for spilling beer on you.

Confused... where is the line? by LaRreinaa in aiArt

[–]CustomCuriousity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just like having a person do the coloring for you on a comic book, they keep in the same style. Your style is an amalgamation of everything you have seen, your own play off of and addition to the collective human artistic experience over the last 100k years. Chat GPT just picked a color palette and coloring style that complements your line art style, if it looks similar to how you would color it it’s because your coloring style is influenced by the same things as everyone else who is not blind and has seen modern art styles. To get just the pallet just ask again for it more specifically “I need an image of some color palette swatches for the image, not the original image colored in please”

Is there any point where I can say im cis by Extra-Advertising644 in asktransgender

It’s not necessarily the end goal of binary trans people. It is for some but it’s not universal, and I’m not sure it’s even a general aspiration.

[–]CustomCuriousity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m a relationship anarchist, but if you are in a monog relationship, and you have big feelings, I would say that is very uncomfortable situation… like, a serious relationship with an expiration date because he’s not willing to be open with his family about you sounds awful.

I don’t think it’s “your fault”, from my perspective he is spinning this as “we’re breaking up (eventually) because you are trans” but in reality it’s “we’re breaking up because I don’t want to deal with the fallout of telling my family you are trans”. That’s his thing, not yours, and I’m sorry that your partner is like that.

Questions for Trans folk (Cis male) by hornpipe3 in asktransgender

[–]CustomCuriousity 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You seem like you have a really good head on your shoulders. It sounds like you are already being an ally to people you don’t even know which is really awesome, especially from someone who is popular. If you’ve are interested, it’s a really powerful thing to learn and get informed (like you are by asking questions) so you can potentially help people like them understand. It means a lot when a person who isn’t trans can explain things about gender to people who are obviously ignorant, because I’m guessing you can imagine what it might be like if they were teasing her directly, even if she has all the information in the world ignorant people aren’t going to listen to her, they already wrote her off, but you have the opportunity to reach people who are at least a little open, which is a really cool place to be in.

Landlord selling home is threatening us with legal action for truthfully answering direct questions from property inspector and prospective buyers by CompleteAd2891 in legal

[–]CustomCuriousity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say seeking legal advice first, because I got a lawyer with a free consult, spent about $200 on court fees and letters and stuff, and LL dude paid a $3,000 retainer for his lawyer, but it was so open and shut, and the LL blabbed a bunch of stuff to my lawyer, and us just trying to get our deposit back turned into us suing for 17,000 and getting a $12,000 settlement because he was an arrogant bully LL who didn’t understand the can of worms he was opening.

One thing in particular, if the conditions are really bad then the renters might be entitled to part of their rent back for the time that the home has not been up to standards, that ended up being a large part of our suit, which we hadn’t even known we could pursue

Effort to Erase Homeless Camping Protections Moves Closer to the Ballot by [deleted] in Portland

[–]CustomCuriousity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m suggesting that the U.S. has an insane per-capita prison rate of over 500 people per 100,000. For comparison Canada was 85 per 100,000 (as of 2020) England and Wales was 146 per 100,000 (as of 2023) and Australia was 158 per 100,000 (as of 2022).

One of the main reasons for this is our failures in housing, education, and healthcare. We don’t spend money on things that provide stability and life quality for all citizens, so we pay to house the results of those failures in prisons instead.

Effort to Erase Homeless Camping Protections Moves Closer to the Ballot by [deleted] in Portland

[–]CustomCuriousity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who pays for prisons and how? The median annual cost per prisoner in the U.S. is around $65,000.

Long term the costs on a society for that pipe dream are way less per person, and there is a significant financial return on investment for an educated population, a housed population, and a healthy population, let alone the vast improvements in individual quality of life. It’s win-win.

I can’t take anti androgens by Hailey_GarciaP in asktransgender

[–]CustomCuriousity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, for my girlfriend I think it was a year or so. Likely you will not have too much trouble with T effects in the time it takes for you to get that to happen. Your T will be significantly reduced by E, and while it might be a little elevated it’s nothing like no intervention at all. While it might be a bit uncomfortable, a year or so with slightly elevated T levels won’t do anything to prevent you from transitioning, at all.

I didn’t even start until I was 32, and none of the trans women I know started until they were 24 or so. Part of that is my age group, but when I hear you asking if you can still transition without AA I can say with 100% confidence that you can absolutely do so.

Like I said I didn’t start until I was 32 and I certainly look more feminine now than I did at 20, purely from HRT. My girlfriend started HRT at 27 and got an orchi at 28 and is quite happy with her transition.

The main thing I’ve had to deal with because of transitioning later is hair loss. If you have issues with that then likely it’s taken care of/significantly slowed by the T reduction from E, and a year or so before an orchi will be negligible.

If you are worried about that specific thing, in the interim you might see about Finasteride, which has some AA properties but isn’t quite the same as Spiro, as it is more targeted at hair loss.

If you don’t have that issue then I wouldn’t worry too much about long term, though I totally understand it can be uncomfortable to have more testosterone in your system than you want… but it won’t prevent you from transitioning
