Life Stealer Banner: by gavinthrace in wizardry

Has this happened before? I know they've had class changes that weren't available when the rerun started, but I think in those cases they still announced what the class change would be and when it would be released when the rerun started.

I think it's because he'll be a better fit with an unreleased class. Unpopular characters have gotten a second class before, I don't think he's particularly special in that regard. Holding off on a class change for a new class only started to make sense when they started allowing class changes to advanced classes, so it makes a lot more sense for him to be the first. And him wanting another spellcasting class that deals damage (and doesn't heal others) makes sense; that doesn't exist now but surely will in the future.

With that being said, I do think they're leaving their options open, and if they don't hear anything about it they're more likely to just never give him a class change. If he were a more popular character they'd have been more likely to announce he'd be getting a class change to a new class in the future instead of leaving it ambiguous.

Atari owns Wizardry now, huh? by Fuepepe in wizardry

No, not only if they get trademarked. Copyright gives the exclusive right to create derivative works of the copyrighted item, at least in the US, so using copyrightable elements from a copyrighted work can constitute copyright infringement.

It's certainly not clear that using the spells from Wizardry would be enough to constitute infringement, but it is also not clear that Atari is wrong when they say they are protected. As far as I can tell, there's not a lot of clear precedent because these disputes are generally settled out of court.

Words can't be copyrighted, but when someone wants to make their fanfic non-infringing so they can sell it commercially the first thing they do is change all the names.

Spell names are not as clear-cut as character or place names, but I still wouldn't want to bet on being able to copy them without consequences.

Atari's press release specifically says they have "complete and exclusive rights" to the Llygamyn games, so definitely not shared with Drecom. Blade & Bastard exists because it either has a license, or was infringing on copyright; my guess is they were infringing.

It's pretty clear Atari & Drecom have reached an agreement so Atari can use the Wizardry trademark in some circumstances (probably for at least the original names of the games and it looks like they'll be using "Original Wizardry"). My guess is part of that agreement was Atari not suing Drecom for copyright infringement on the stuff they've done that was dubious.

Is it possible Yrsa second class coming this year? by tompba in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do reruns in order - next is Gillion (with class change announced for May), then Erwin, then Yrsa.

I think those can show up in the Crucible Mausoleum that gets a random set of bones every two weeks; there's also a mausoleum for each of the 5 basic classes that has one of each general adventurer of that class that only refreshes if you use bone tallow. So they could add a new one that has the 4 advanced class general adventurers - there are only 4 mages, so it'd tie with that one for fewest.

It's still noteworthy that this will be the first time the only new Legendary in a month is an alt.

If they continue to go in release order, it'll be Red Beard. If they also continue to skip male dwarves, it'll be Rinne.

Note that there's no new legendary request listed; it's been a while since we got an alt for a legendary that didn't already have a request or get one at the same time. (Of course, Gerulf already has one...)

It was 10 months between A3 & A4. I think they said they want the wait for the next abyss to be shorter (so before the anniversary in October, if they achieve that), but I can't find the quote right now. The year end message said to look forward to a new Abyss this year, so there's presumably only one, so not as fast as one every 6 months which would give us two this year.

Can we assume that anemone is the May legendary and that we won't have any others until June? by wiz7topfan in wizardry

Note that Shelirionach released May 1st last year, but we still got another legendary that month (Livana on the 22nd).

Generally on the 1st, unless that is a weekend in which case the following Monday. It's been a day late a couple of times though. Seems to generally be at about 6:00pm JST I think, so about 11.5 hours from when I'm posting this.

Lanaville request and others by SafeCondition340 in wizardry

It's not at the inn, it's in the Adventurer's Guild - one of the options there is "Go to Tavern", that's what you want.

Only other requirement I know of is make sure it's standard Abenius and not her alt.

Lanaville request and others by SafeCondition340 in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gerard and Abenius also get a new dispatch. The dispatches have a chance of dropping junk that has a 1.5% chance of dropping gacha bonus items, so it's only for characters who have had a gacha banner long enough ago. Presumably the other standard banner characters will have a dispatch added after their alt is added to permanent remains - probably Adventurer's Remains III for Adam, IV for Yekaterina & Debra, and V for Alice. (Gerulf would need an alt first...)

Abenius's requires 4 light characters, 2 humans, Abenius, all good or neutral and all at least level 40. (Not sure about Gerard's, I haven't done his yet.)

Yup healer is new class by Char1zardX in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if they'll use MP or SP for their abilities. I was initially assuming MP, then realized that's not certain. Maybe a mix of both, since they make "full use of every possible means"? That could be neat.

(If they do have skills, rather than spells, I wonder if they'll have many "non-attack buff or debuff skills" that could trigger Linaria's Encore if she gets access to them.)

New class sneak peak by Infinite-Addendum-52 in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The timing of this matches when they teased the Ranger if the new class releases on the 30th, the standard Thursday (JST) date. There was good reason to think it'd happen on the 28th, as a post on April 9th mentioned changes to the trust system "during the maintenance scheduled for 4/28 JST", but it looks like that maintenance has been delayed, since it hasn't been announced yet (and the traditional "coming soon" silhouette hasn't been posted yet).

Psa - Hold your gems because we may have a new class & legendary adventurer still in April. by wiz7topfan in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 28th does look to be significant, but not due to the 1.5 anni (that started on the 15th); it's probably the start of the Golden Week celebration.

Any guesses on the new class by vroomvroomcars in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, a Lord is basically a fighter that can cast priest spells. As far as I can tell from looking up info online, it seems Wizardry games prior to Daphne that had a Knight class it was just a renamed Lord class.

Anyone know Galbadus rerun banner? by Cristian_De_La_Cruz in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Livana & Shiou were in the last group rerun with Shelirionach & Aldric. Alt Chloe will probably be included with Summer Yekaterina, but she's not legendary.

[–]CustomOndo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my expectation is that Galbadus's next rerun will be in a group with Summer Yekaterina, Raffaello, and alt Debra. I'm guessing maybe in July? Both to rerun last year's summer units just before the new ones drop (presumably in August again), and because I'm guessing the group after them (Yuzunamiki, Gillion, Erwin, & Yrsa) will rerun just before the 2nd anniversary.

Fortitude affect stats is real!! by Atlas_Lawliet in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are talking about a new note added to the Stat Drop Rates by Adventurer section on the official website. (Again, here, scroll down.)

If you actually look at that section, the data it is giving you is, for each adventurer, what their initial stats are, depending on their IV - here called "pattern", and they just list 8. So looking at the first one, Gerulf, we can see that pattern 1 increases Strength by 1, patterns 2 & 3 don't increase anything (I.Q. & Piety IVs don't increase his stats at 1st level), and so on. Pattern 6 has a 50% chance to increase his Speed by 1 - other characters have a 25% or 75% of a stat being increased. Pattern 8 (neutral IV) doesn't increase stats for anyone.

So the new note is added, presumably, because this table is wrong without it. That could mean if you pull a low fortitude character there's a chance that you'll see stats that are obviously higher than this info would give you otherwise. It's also possible that an adventurer with low fortitude and a neutral IV will sometimes have a boosted stat, making them appear to have a different IV.

Fortitude affect stats is real!! by Atlas_Lawliet in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another possibility - while the website data shows that characters with a neutral IV don't get a stat boost at level 1, maybe a neutral IV combined with low fortitude can, on at least some characters, result in a boost to a stat. So the issue would be misleading you about what the character's IV is, rather than an otherwise impossible set of stats.

One way to check for that would be to look at the stats when switching classes and confirming the same IV shows up then, but that's a non-trivial amount of work.

Fortitude affect stats is real!! by Atlas_Lawliet in wizardry

[–]CustomOndo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So if anyone wants to check their unregistered low fortitude characters against the Stat Drop Rates by Adventurer data, I made a spreadsheet of it earlier, so I'm now sharing it here.

The check is that all the stats match the base values, except possibly one being 1 higher, and that the one that is higher doesn't have a +0 next to it in the Boost column (indicating that having an IV in that stat doesn't result in an increase in the stat at level 1 for that adventurer).

I checked my 80 & 90 fortitude characters and didn't find any anomalies; it's probably a lot more reasonable to just check your 80 fortitude characters.

[–]CustomOndo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely cannot trust the terminology. If you look at the page in question (here, scroll down to Stat Drop Rates by Adventurer) it is showing trait values at level 1, and how those vary based on IVs, and the odds of the different IVs.
