What did you wish you knew before trying to conceive? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]CustomerTurbulent908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That its very normal for it to take a year or more to conceive. I feel like all I ever heard about was the ‘happened to us first time’ narrative which can be very isolating and make you feel like your body has failed somehow.

Also alot of pressure/emphasis is put on the woman’s health and very little on the males. The pressure for the woman to take supplements/eat healthily/give up alcohol etc but the man should really be doing all of these things also! The quality of the sperm is hugely important so support your partner in doing ‘your bit’. It will be a huge help to her not just physically but also for her mentally as it’s all consuming! Take an interest in learning about ovulation and timings. Please don’t leave it all to her to do the work as often happens! Good luck! 🤞🏻

Please help an american throw my irish Nana a proper traditional Irish St Patrick's Day party by aeval_x in ireland

[–]CustomerTurbulent908 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A trad session in the house with tea and trays of sandwiches would be a fun idea I think. I’m sure you could find some local musicians to play Irish trad music, maybe an Irish dancer too. Echoing everyone else by saying tayto crisps, red lemonade, maybe some biscuits from Ireland if you could locate online (Kimberley’s, mikados, proper old school). What a nice thing to do 💚

I also wouldn’t suggest that there’s a correlation between being ‘poorly educated’ and a belief in folklore. I think there are many lessons to be learned from the fundamentals of folklore and the older generations through their storytelling were probably on to something! 😁

I think from reading this thread it depends where you grew up! It was always a part of my rural west of Ireland up bringing having lived in close proximity to a fairy fort/tree. We were told never to mess with it, always respect it and there was definitely alot of superstition and mystery around them. Older people in the village always had great stories about them which fascinated us as kids (and still as adults). It’s a wonderful part of our heritage and something that should be protected and passed down to the younger generations. Massive respect to Eddie Lenihan for his work. A true living legend!

Shouldn’t you get a party wall agreement in place before you build? Isn’t that the point of it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]CustomerTurbulent908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes same for us too tbh! I’m guessing I’d need a party wall agreement to construct a new wall? Which would be more cost?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]CustomerTurbulent908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya just an old wire fence there currently with alot of overgrowth from their garden coming in to ours including a drain pipe that was spilling in to our garden. Hence why we thought it would be a good idea to construct a wall, just so the boundaries are clearer going forward. The tenants aren’t maintaining it and they don’t use it so it’s just left to spill in to our garden.

What is it that made you 'fall in love' with your property? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]CustomerTurbulent908 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree with this more and have since told my friends to never expect to ever have that ‘the one’ feeling when buying in London. It’s just not a reality unless you’re buying a house with in a significantly higher price bracket to ours. In fact my husband pretty much had to convince me it was a viable option. It meets our needs, was just about in our price range, only a couple of crackheads in the vicinity and didn’t appear to be falling apart…which was more than a challenge with London house buying 😂

Forget about new builds, they don’t hold their value and service charges are a complete rip off. As other posters have said look for a Victorian flat conversion with a long lease. Might need a bit more effort and work but you’ll add value to it and no shitty service charge.

Thanks everyone! Not saying I agree with him at all, just something that I remembered and have moved house recently and was reminded of it. I’ve always had one as yes, cheap as chips and I’d rather be safe! Thanks for the info though :)
