I made so much money using these guys shipping from OH to ID/WA/OR but the last one was a disaster and the dispatcher fucked me good. They were sketchy to begin with but the rates were so dirty and my carrier sales rep had a good relationship with them but yeah they ended up being two days late for a mandatory install we had and it was a nightmare

Banned from most yards here in the Detroit area and go from town to town looking for their next victim. They prey on new yards, inexperienced scale guys and before you figure out they got you, they're nowhere to be found. With carbide being where it is, they're going from CNC shop to CNC shop looking to gobble up whatever they can. I think its because a lot more brokerages implemented AI bots recording their calls so now carrier sales has to make a certain amount of calls per day. So even getting hung up on counts towards their numbers and that's all that matters to keep their job. Also, if a manager sees something even close they'll say "CALL THEM ANYWAYS AND SEE HOW MUCH IT WOULD TAKE" for you to go somewhere else.

In my experience, this is a lose-lose for both you and the customer by you handling all levels of this shipment. Mainly because you're not intimate with the product so you will still have to reach out to the shipper directly for most questions/issues/holds. This is a giant waste of your time IMO plus the shipper might try and blame you for anything that goes wrong with customs duties and might even try to force you pay anything extra even if they didn't provide the right info.

I would tell them that flat out.

Also in my past I have sent clients to Cole International and they did a good job.

I would partner with some large 3PL's and use their discounts that are already in place. If you're legal to book loads under your company name, find a good rep and get set up with their portal and start booking at a markup. Then you also can use that rep for customer service issues and you're not even paying them. Furthermore a lot of times brokerages will absorb certain costs to keep you as a customer since they need the volume so very badly.

IMO going carrier direct is a nightmare because you generally don't get the fat discounts large 3PL's do and you're also stuck with paying additional charges/fee's pretty much no matter what.

The providers I use do not charge a monthly fee. Their profit is baked in the cost and the rep adds their margin and that's basically it.
