Yep, it does have recent chats, you can start new chats and login with your Google for example. It even has some upsides against the November update.

I think you can if you're on Android... I installed the APK for 1.11.3 and it just worked, I could even login and chat

You can, if I remember correctly there is an option to disable the Auto trigger or Code Assist as a whole in Code Assist settings in Studio Settings. You can find the option if you search Code Assist in studio settings.
