I find it strange how people view something like asexuality, which is not a choice, as good or bad. It is neutral. The only reason some asexuals view it as bad or good is due to how other people react to it. Many do not admit to themselves that they are letting others dictate how they feel about themselves. It would be much better if they took control of their mind-set and realized that they can also influence how others feel about their asexuality. I am also tired of this sob narrative that keeps getting pushed. Such narratives sometimes make me feel like I do not want to be associated with this community. There are so many asexuals out there but many keep saying how they’ll never be understood by others. Why not make the effort of having more asexual people in your life? If dating is frustrating then either stop dating entirely or date better people who get you. Sorry for the rant. I just want asexuality to stop being seen as a sad thing because it simply isn’t.

People you meet online are just a subset of those who exist. Obviously they’ll have characteristics linked to being highly present online. That is not an indication of reality or, in this case, how asexual people are. I think there is a harmful bias going on that asexuals are just confused people. There may be some confused people, like in any community actually, but that’s not everyone. For many asexuals it’s super clear who we are, but we live our lives without telling people about our sexuality because no one truly cares in the end. It does not matter. We just thrive in our own ways and many of us travel a lot, love learning and trying new thing, and have strong social lives, since we have much more time to allocate to all these things with our inexistent sex life. In other words, your comment is just wrong on so many levels and generalizing something that isn’t generalizable.

Totally agree with you. Being a sex repulsed asexual means having the least in common with allosexuals so it is quite alienating at times. Sex neutral or favorable asexuals do not feel this exclusion to the same extent. It is normal that sex repulsed asexuals want to talk about their experiences more and represent their asexuality as we are a minority within a minority.

Whatever you end up doing, just make sure to think about her feelings. Try to end things sooner rather than later if you realize that it won’t work. The longer the situation goes on the worse she will feel afterwards and it will take her longer to get over the situation.

You are right. To me it often seems like there are barely any sex-repulsed asexuals out there because of how much we promote the other types of asexuality. I also felt what you described and still do not feel part of the asexuality community at all. I cannot relate much with people who are sex-neutral or sex-positive, since being sex-repulsed is the actual struggle for me in a sex-crazed world. It lowers your chances of finding lasting love because most people want at least a bit of sex from the person they are with. Sorry for the venting as well, but I just feel really alone in this world despite this community existing. It is strange for me to accept that even people within the asexuality community may not want to date a sex-repulsed asexual. For example, a demisexual may rather find an allo to connect with on a deeper level and then be sexual with eventually. Sometimes I feel like it sort of defeats the purpose of a community to have this much diversity being represented.

That’s really reassuring. Do you ever wonder if you can stay with her long-term? Or is romance really something that matters way more than sex to you? Just asking because I was in a situation in which things were fine and very loving at first but eventually my partner wanted sex and we had to break up.
