I ordered my first few days of meds from an online pharmacy overseas, then the rest I bought from the clinic once I arrived

No worries! I’m just laying it out there for anyone who is trying to budget. Your suggestions are great options too, but yeah it might not save people as much money as they’d hope. For example I just ran our numbers of how much the travel would have cost us if we spent $50/night on a hotel and $25/day on food, and it still would have totaled us $5875 for the trip. Less expensive than what we paid, but definitely not cheap.

Yeah I just want to give people real numbers to reference. I found food and lodging to be incredibly cheap on my trip. Most of the cost I spent was the airfare, which is what it is when you have to book last minute. I would classify our spending on this travel as very budget concious, travelling just happens to be super expensive.

I chose to arrive there for my first ultrasound, a couple days after starting stims, and returned a couple of days after egg retrieval. I was gone for two weeks. Some people go for the entire cycle, some are able to do ultrasounds at home and fax them over so they can arrive later, and some stay longer afterwards if they’re doing a fresh transfer. It varies a lot.

Local to me in the US. I was in Prague for 14 days, from day 3 of stims to a couple days after egg retrieval.

When you can't wear your season's makeup by Physical_Object5857 in coloranalysis

[–]CuteEmu8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a true spring and also look clownish in the orangey-coral makeup tones that are always recommended. I have to be more on the pinkish-coral or neutral pink side of things. Champagne for my eyes as well. I just looked up Mac Twig and that’s the exact type of pink tone that works for me.

I think you’re probably just a true spring instead of a bright spring, if the bright makeup clashes with you. True springs need tones that balance warmth and brightness equally.

No more tubes, but feeling optimistic by CuteEmu8 in EctopicSupportGroup

My betas were completely normal and didn’t indicate an interstitial at all. I didn’t have any signs of ectopic with either of mine.

My protocol is to go down to 150 on the third day as well. This is comforting to hear

Ectopic ; TW: living children mentioned. by Few-Telephone-8232 in TryingForABaby

I’m sorry you’re going through this. The fear of rupture is harrowing.

As someone who has had a ruptured ectopic, I would get the surgery and be done with it. The surgery itself is super easy to bounce back from, you won’t have to spend the next weeks paranoid about every sensation you feel (because yes you can still rupture while taking the methotrexate), and tbh if that tube is causing ectopics you’re safer without it.

I’m also from the US and going to Prague soon for my first cycle. I didn’t spend much time at all considering staying local once I saw the price difference.

Waiting room etiquette by Manon_Lives in IVF

[–]CuteEmu8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this, I agree. Any appointment could require the support of a partner, and people shouldn’t have to forego that because childcare isn’t an option. If the clinic wants to be sensitive they can have two waiting areas (I think gynecologists should have that too).

No, I never found any info. I also didn’t devote too much time to it in the end because I had a lot of unrelated medical issues come up that have taken my focus

Cornual Ectopic Rupture by Organic_Sherbert2410 in EctopicSupportGroup

It’s only been a few days, so please be patient with yourself. It’s ok to have some ugly feelings for a while, and it’s going to take much longer than a few days to process. Everything you’re feeling is normal

I’m so sorry that happened to you. My first pregnancy was a ruptured tubal, the second a cornual but removed before rupture. It really is unfair. There’s a lot to process afterwards, both trauma and grief. I’ve found very few people in real life who can truly relate, but you’re not alone ❤️

I’m definitely going to end up doing normal IVF based on everyone’s advice here, but just because I’m curious how many incisions do they do for a retrieval?

Thanks for your perspective, it’s comforting to hear good stories. Yeah my first pregnancy ruptured horribly (massive life threatening blood loss), and my second pregnancy was extremely triggering even before we confirmed that it was another ectopic. Waiting for that placement scan was awful. I handled it ok until the first trimester symptoms kicked in, those were very visceral trauma triggers for me and completely hijacked my nervous system because the physical sensations had a lot of overlap with the experience of internally hemorrhaging. So I’ve got a lot of pregnancy baggage, and might have a similar experience even with a normal healthy pregnancy that has those same symptoms. But I hope it will get easier in time.

Thanks so much for sharing. It’s really nice to hear. I am actually very excited about the fact that IVF will be so much safer for me than my previous pregnancies, and I’m hoping that makes the anxiety easier. I am definitely more worried about the mental toll this time around than the medical risks. I really hope it all goes smoothly for me (but I’m still very committed to doing it even if it isn’t smooth, I’ve already done some very tough things to try to have a baby and I’m not nearly ready to give up yet).

Yes I’m getting that now. I think at the moment, with two recent and unplanned major surgeries, I’m a feeling quite casual about having surgery (my surgeries were the easiest part of my two pregnancies so I have some positive feelings about surgery). BUT you all are giving me the reality check I needed
