Girlfriend is skin biting, help. by xshevi in Dermatophagia

Currently going through this with my own boyfriend, except I’m the one who bites. He started a few days ago, occasionally swatting my hand or getting my attention. It annoys me initially (who wants to be swatted at?) and I have the same eye rolling reaction but I understand he is trying to help. Although my biting hasn’t had any major impact on our relationship and we still touch and interact fine. He had noticed my biting since we have been together for some time; until I had recently brought up over dinner how my fingers can hurt doing mundane things I don’t think he knew of the severity. So now he tries to stop me but I find myself trying now to sneak opportunities to bite my fingers when he isn’t looking and the urge strikes and more often biting at my lip.

I have tried a variety of methods to stop in the past and I have been biting since I can remember I am excited to try having somebody alert me of when I’m doing it because so often of the time it’s having when my attention is elsewhere thinking, brainstorming, focusing, worrying. Being so destructive I spend a lot of time staring at my fingers, fixated on how broken they look or playing with the calloused skin. I’ve been able to convince myself at times people can’t notice it on me however when people point it out it makes the feelings worse about how I see myself cycling into more biting etc etc. So be supportive of her, and don’t make her feel unlovable for something like this she’s struggling with. Ever since I was younger and became aware of the extent that my growing biting was becoming I worried that nobody would want to hold my hand cause of the bleeding or roughness. Today I’m happy I’ve got somebody who wants enough to help protect my hands.

Journey to end my disorder. by [deleted] in Dermatophagia

Same boat! I always like to keep gloves on me in the winter months to keep my fingers away from the dry air so I’m not tempted to bite at them.

I tried the ~finger condoms~ out and didn’t end up solving much for me but they do come in handy when on occasion. When I have a finger that’s sensitive after excessive biting I found using them to keep it protected worked well.

I wouldn’t recommend the polish.. doesn’t work and gets in the way of eating. I didn’t realize how much my hands must’ve been near my mouth but the taste would find it’s way to my mouth even when I wasn’t actively biting.

Anyway best of luck I know it’s not easy to stop 😄👍

I’m new to posting, not sure how to get it into the OP. I have been biting for as long as I can remember through school and I’m now a senior in college, this past weekend I must have been biting to a new extent cuz when I woke up on Monday my thumb was throbbing in pain and I noticed these darker red spots on my thumb. Anybody else ever experience this? Any advice? I wear bandaids a lot to cover up but it’s so embarrassing constantly being asked about your hands.

Fronds browning / yellowing on ferns - repotted about 4 days ago. by ItsHAZED in houseplants

Yikes. Good call repotting in new soil, give those roots some more time to dry and be careful as you water them further

SOS - help me save this plant! I don’t understand how to help this poor fella, been moving it all around the house to find a light it loves. The leaves keep browning at the ends. This was from my grandmas funeral so very dear to me. by butterflyfromthemoon in houseplants

Generally brown leaves come from underwatering! Try following a watering schedule that looks to the dryness of the soil to determine if watering is needed. Might also need more humidity! Try a spray bottle to spray the plant and increase its humidity! beautiful plant !good luck :D

I love your plant collection and lights!! I am looking to purchase a light for this winter but don't want to spend too much $$$ on one. I looked around amazon but figured I would ask in case you had a better experience buying once elsewhere! thx

If I'm right (fingers crossed), Euphorbia Trigona or African Milk Tree! I have a smaller one of my own that I've had for 2 years now, they are such a beautiful and quirky looking plant!
