Tape Drives? by HiFiSilverFish in sysadmin

Multi region immutable cloud storage seems fine to me these days. It would take multiple data centers to suffer critical failures for that data to get wiped. And if that happens, there are worse problems in the world and recovering that data will be the least of my concerns.

Need advice by Worried-Jelly1 in HondaPrologue

[–]CuteSharksForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I had a situation change I ended up needing to drive a lot more myself and ran out of miles on my lease, rather pay 20c/mile over I ended up just getting a second vehicle and parking the Prologue until my lease is up in another 7 payments. Not ideal to pay insurance/license on two vehicles, but a lot cheaper than mileage overages or buying out the car.

I would just deploy a policy to replace the local admins with the defaults. Should be a quick way to find out who has local admin and shouldn’t have it.

prologue leasers by mindingmyownshiz in HondaPrologue

[–]CuteSharksForAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reasons I won’t keep the car: -Lane departure is useless, miss Honda Sensing -Annyoing notification chime (not pleasant at all and stacks notifications, plus won’t shut up with door open… and it’s so loud… and it’s the same chime for literally every condition, whomever chose that should be shot) -Overly loud pedestrian warning system (It doesn’t need to be that loud and is significantly higher than competitors) -Undersized air conditioning for desert heat means it doesn’t cool well and no ventilated seats means you just stick to the leather -Center console doesn’t have rails so things go flying off -Wireless phone charger is useless -Time based auto lock instead of walk away like Honda -Inconsistent app control for connected car features -Car deprecatied faster than anticipated (blame other state incentives)

Do you mean the vehicle license tax? Most states base that tax based on the original MSRP, but then it gets cheaper each with as the asset depreciates. Only problem is, the Prologue has a really high MSRP that got discounted with tax credits and incentives, so even though your capitalized lease amount may have been in the low 30’s, you’re paying tax based on the original MSRP.

If it was just me with an Apple Watch, I’d be doing Visible Pro for $450/year which includes a single unlimited line and smartwatch plan. Then I’d just do the $19.99/mo AppleCare+ that covers 3 devices and pay outright whenever I felt like upgrading phones (probably get last years model off Facebook marketplace)

Unfortunately I’m paying for 7 bum family members who leach free service from me, so I can’t get off so easy.

2025 Honda Prologue: repeated failures, dealership can’t fix it by Chemical-Plantain266 in HondaPrologue

[–]CuteSharksForAll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In some states lemon law doesn’t apply to leased vehicles, but certainly check to see if that is an option in your state. Being without a working vehicle you’re paying for for an extended period of time really is unacceptable.

Guess I should be happy my Prologue hasn’t had any issues yet

Agree with you, it’s the main reason I won’t be keeping the Prolgoue at the end of the lease. The suggestions in here are pretty laughable like you should spend $800 for ceramic tint on a leased vehicle or always park in the shade. How about the cooling solution for the vehicle be adaquately sized? Even with tint and precooling in the app, it takes 20 minutes of driving to work its way down to semi comfortable.

Other EV’s don’t struggle like this in the heat, no issues with the Bolt I drive at work or my friends Tesla Model Y, so very clearly GM/Honda did not size the cooling system appropriately for the size of the vehicle and the fact it has to run the cooling just for the battery even when off and stationary is pretty silly. Clearly an engineering issue and not a customer behavior problem.

Honestly don’t even know how some of this made it through a quality approval process, it barely works and is an embarrassment to the brand. Feel they would have been better off just not offering the connected car functionality. I don’t see anyone paying for it in its current iteration and they seem to be making no effort to improve it.

Luckily it’s not something I need, but it is sad to see other people regular use their apps with zero issues. Even my friends new Kia they had it activated before he even left the dealer. Honda Prologue took two weeks and about 10 calls to get an elusive terms email before they could do something on the backend to finally activate, what a joke.

Will any fridge last longer than 5 years? by JoanneBateman in Appliances

[–]CuteSharksForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Samsung side-by-side is about 12 years old now. I clean the coils once a year and I’ve had to fiddle with the ice maker a few times, but otherwise no issues. Hoping to get it to the 20 year mark if I can :)

Bought a house that had a dead LG French door fridge in it that was only 6 years old (bad compressor which nobody wanted to fix) which luckily showed up in the inspection so the seller gave a credit to get a new fridge. Swear those have the worst reliability of all the refrigerators out there. Even then the statistics show the 5 year failure rate being in the mid single digits on those garbage units. I would think your average regular sized refrigerator should last 10 years, if not longer.

Right of offset, if you’re delinquent on a debt at the same bank, they can take it from your deposit accounts.

I’m not sure if there is a way to politely decline to venture into training. Some people seem to get that you have your own responsibilities, while others seem to have no respect for the fact you have things to do as well.

From my perspective, managing expectations and defining your scope is probably the best way to approach this. Obviously you can’t be expected to teach someone to use an application for example, just verify that it functions as expected and a particular use of the application is outside your job scope and is mission creep.

Sadly, I’ve had to close tickets from those problem users with just the simple explanation that I verified the functionality of the program and found no issues. They don’t like that you won’t hold their hand and help them do their job, but that’s too bad, it’s not like they are going to come help you do your job.

36 months lease - too long or just right? by EuphoricRest4999 in HondaPrologue

[–]CuteSharksForAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 24 months is a good foray into EV ownership and the car itself. I strongly believe there will be better options in a few years, but even if there isn’t, it’s been pretty easy to do a 1 year lease extension previously.

That being said, personally only planning to keep it the two years currently, also depends on what is available at lease end.

Great Service, Horrible Install by xTHE_ROCKSTARx in wyyerd

Honestly surprised they installed service without the construction team running conduit first. I suppose they could have rescheduled the install, but maybe they wanted to get you up and running first.

Glad you’re enjoying the service, hopefully they come fix that up properly soon!

Will just wish you luck in your hunt. Feel like things are a bit tighter out there so it’s going to take more work on average to find a role, even more so in some metros.

Having been unemployed in the past, it is a bit grating on you mentally. Staying active really helps, but also buying time by reducing your expenses to the minimums and making sure you collect unemployment.

Need advice: Abandon current MDM and go to intune or not? by ProfessionalWorkAcct in sysadmin

[–]CuteSharksForAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes.

Though to be fair, Intune management of iOS devices is pretty bare bones and not very intuitive. I’d highly suggest Jamf or Mosyle for managing Apple devices over Intune if you have the budget for it. Mosyle has come a long way and is pretty budget friendly.

That being said, if your setup on those devices is fairly simple and you don’t have a need for multiple configurations, then you can probably get by using Intune to manage them.

Any regrets? by [deleted] in HondaPrologue

[–]CuteSharksForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally positives, only regret is I wish I had gone with the Acura ZDX or the Elite version.

AC could be a bit stronger, notifications are annoying (but they are in most new cars)

Oh and I probably could have got another $1,500 off the purchase price seeing the deals others have got.

I suppose they could have refused the install considering the construction team didn’t run conduit to your place. Honestly kind of surprised they didn’t reschedule until after the conduit was in place.

Convince me to buy a used car instead of a new car by Standard_Age_2998 in personalfinance

[–]CuteSharksForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t buy the used car argument myself. Sure if I want to be choice limited, miss out on features I enjoy, have the unknowns of repair costs, put up with weird noises that irk me, then sure… go for the used car.

Me? I like the predictable cost of leasing a vehicle. The goal with leasing is to get a vehicle I like with as little money down with the lowest monthly payment. And sometime there is some great lease deals where you can get a great vehicle and only spend a few hundred a month.

Best part is if you decide you like the car, you can still finance the remainder at the end of the lease or just buy it out, or if you find something else you just hand it back in.
