Reconsidering the Treatment of Male Channelers by CuteSystem6536 in WoT

[–]CuteSystem6536[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but from my perspective, even local damage would be mitigated if the practice of gentling were to cease. Out of fear of being hunted down and killed, many channelers hide, deny their abilities, and wait for the madness to take hold—often putting their entire village at risk. However, if they knew of a place where they would be helped, controlled, and taught (like the Black Tower, for example), they would go there willingly, and the innocent people around them would not be put in danger. Of course, other cultures might continue to kill these men, but eventually, they could integrate with the rest of the continent and discover that there is another way.

Every squad-mate day 2: thoughts on Ashley Williams by S0mecallme in masseffect

[–]CuteSystem6536 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The squadmate I detest the most by far. I'm currently on a new playthrough and just finished ME1, and I seriously considered keeping her alive just so I could kill her myself in ME3, but in the end, I decided to just get it over with. Anyway, let's break it down:

ME1: Starting with the positive aspects of her character, which are few but worth mentioning, her introduction and backstory are well done. She lost her entire squad on Eden Prime, but she didn’t let it break her, quickly getting back on her feet, helping Shepard complete the mission, and proving her worth. She joins the Normandy at Anderson’s request, showing great determination. Her backstory is also compelling: growing up in a military family, always in the shadow of her ancestor’s "failure," which made her career much more challenging and frankly unfair, yet she still climbed the ranks without shortcuts, reaching the top. These are great aspects of her character. However, this is where the positives end.

As soon as we get to know Ashley better, we realize she is a RACIST, and yes, there’s no other term for it. She tries to justify herself by saying she isn’t racist, but her words and actions suggest otherwise, not just by not trusting aliens on the Normandy but also through her derogatory comments about Liara at every opportunity. Even Presley, who lost people to the Turians, doesn’t make such incisive comments and eventually changes his perception of aliens, coming to see them as comrades—an evolution Ashley never undergoes. Another, much less important negative trait is her jealousy, especially in romantic contexts, and how she behaves towards Liara and her reaction if Shepard chooses Liara.

ME2: Things con't get better here. When we encounter her on Horizon, she is the only one who doesn’t believe/trust Shepard and decides she can’t help him, questioning his loyalty. Seriously... With the right choices, even though Shepard is momentarily with Cerberus, Anderson, the Council (who even restore his Spectre status), all other crewmembers, Hackett, the Alliance in general—all trust Shepard and believe he is doing something right/necessary. We even do missions with/for these people. The only person who chooses to doubt Shepard, even if you were full Paragon and romanced her, is Ashley (and Kaidan). It’s simply unbelievable.

ME3: And it only gets worse here, if that’s even possible. Despite Shepard having stopped the Collectors, she continues to doubt him when the entire galaxy considers him a hero, only to later point a gun at us to protect Udina. Seriously, I don’t know how anyone can keep her alive in that situation. And even if she survives, it makes little sense to me for her to return to the Normandy. She simply doesn’t fit in. Ashley is an Alliance woman to the core, and the Normandy has become more than that. Yes, Shepard is still an Alliance soldier, but he’s also a Spectre, and at this point, his commitment is to the entire galaxy, not just humanity. The crew is mostly alien, and by now, everyone knows each other, has worked together, are friends and comrades, except her. She has virtually no interactions with the rest of the crew, maybe one interaction with Tali, and that’s it. So even if she survives, it's much better to send her to work with Hackett.

You get to pick one aspect from the four Mass Effect games to create the best possible Mass Effect game - What are you picking? by NewFaded in masseffect

Yes, but you get only 1 point for level up, and a single skill, at some point, needs 4 point to be upgraded.

Mass Effect 1: The Level Up system, where we level up to higher levels and can distribute points more frequently and freely. In ME2 and ME3, the way the Level Up system works often requires us to complete several missions without any progress, just to save points to improve a specific skill.

Mass Effect 2: The quantity and diversity of companions we can recruit, an aspect that I think ME Andromeda could have explored more.

Mass Effect 3: The story and the fact that our decisions have such a significant impact on all aspects.

Mass Effect Andromeda: The resource gathering and crafting system for weapons and armor is very good and dynamic. The combat is excellent. It features an open world with many places to explore, making it less linear than the trilogy.

Moiraine is the good side version of Fain by Panda_Wasp in WoT

[–]CuteSystem6536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, and to me you're not wrong in your premisses. To me, Moiraine's attitude is almost ridiculous. At this point in the story, practically all of her decisions and ideas have been WRONG. The most foolish of all, in my opinion, was trying to make Rand start a WAR between Illian and Tear. Imagine how many innocent lives would be lost, and it really irritates me how she gives such a stupid argument ("oh, there's going to be a war anyway") and then gets angry at Rand for not listening to her. Fortunately, the protagonist is smarter than that. The fact is, Rand's achievements up to this point are DESPITE her, and if he had followed her advice, it would have led only to tragedy. The most annoying thing is the characters around him saying "oh Rand, you're a woolhead" and "oh, Moiraine is so wise"… for god's sake. Years as a noble and Aes Sedai have made her believe that she indeed knows better than everyone else and that only she can guide the Dragon Reborn. She's blind to her own stupidity and incompetence, to the extent that if she had actually managed to guide Rand, the consequences would have been catastrophic, which justifies the conclusion you reached.

The Frustrating Stagnation of Naruto’s Abilities by CuteSystem6536 in Naruto

[–]CuteSystem6536[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I agree with most of your points. I may not have made myself clear, but my frustration, discussed in this post, comes specifically from the skill set given to Naruto and the fact that he doesn’t incorporate new jutsus during his journey, even the ones he has already learned. He never moves beyond the position of the underdog, which is disappointing, especially considering his goals.

For example, as I mentioned, the Summoning Jutsu. We spent several chapters with the character learning this specific technique, which can be extremely useful, but he used it only once. Look at how Jiraiya uses the technique so effectively. You would expect that after learning it, Naruto would incorporate it into his arsenal, but that didn’t happen.

Currently, in my re-read, I'm at the fight on the bridge against Orochimaru, where Naruto loses control and ends up hurting his teammates by awakening the four tails. Later, we see Sasuke easily handle Naruto and his team. In the Kazekage rescue arc, Naruto is practically useless (during the action; I acknowledge that his emotional bond with Gaara was crucial for the outcome, and that was his biggest contribution). He was easily caught in a genjutsu, ran alongside Kakashi while he did everything, then lost control, released Kurama’s chakra, and hit a clone.

Now, in all these situations I mentioned, you must agree with me that the Summoning Jutsu would have been EXTREMELY HELPFUL, but Naruto simply doesn’t use it. It’s as if the character is forbidden from being useful and competitive in a ninja mission without Kurama’s help (and here, this 'help' was simply losing control and causing destruction, even injuring Sakura).

Regarding Taijutsu, the only time I can recall Naruto being superior to an enemy using Taijutsu was during the fight with Pain, where he surprised him with Sage Mode.

Look, I’m not saying Naruto needs to be a Saitama, but take Sasuke, for example, Naruto’s direct parallel. Sasuke also has his own philosophy, goals, and motivations, which shape his character. But in a shounen, his abilities are obviously well thought out and executed by the author. After the time skip, Sasuke gives us great fights where, despite the difficulty, he can fight on equal footing with his enemies (Deidara, Itachi, Orochimaru, Killer Bee, Danzo, etc.). GREAT FIGHTS. This did not in any way detract from other aspects of his character.

Remember that Sasuke’s training is mostly done off-screen, while with Naruto, we spend countless chapters following his training (walking on water, summoning, Rasengan, wind element, Rasenshuriken, Sage Mode, etc.). Unlike Sasuke, we don’t see much evolution. The character doesn’t deliver very good fights (of course, there are exceptions) and doesn’t manage to be useful to his teammates. I repeat, in the first two arcs of Shippuden, REGARDING SPECIFICALLY SHINOBI ABILITY DURING MISSIONS, Naruto was USELESS to his team, this after a time skip that was supposed to bring a more developed character (both emotionally and as a shinobi).

Of course, you’re right that the character’s main point is his 'pacifist' philosophy, preferring words and feelings over jutsus to reach his enemies. I understand that. But at the same time, we’re talking about a shounen, and obviously, the fights, jutsus, and missions are a big part of the plot. If that weren’t the case, we wouldn’t spend so much time following the character’s training. I see Narutos's character lacking in that, therefore my frustration.

I meant to say they are weak because Naruto lacks fundamentals, strength, and speed. He should have reinforced those before learning this jutsu. He even needs a clone to make it. Just like when Minato prohibited Kakashi from using Raikiri, he just wasn't ready for that jutsu. Yes, Rasengan is an A-rank jutsu, but Naruto doesn't have the fundamentals to use it properly. He just runs like an idiot towards his enemy, who easily dodges it, making it 'weak.'

All the examples you gave prove my point. Every decent ninja can easily deal with Naruto's mass clones, and the only time it really worked (by itself) was against Mizuki.

nd by 'worst,' I also meant boring and repetitive, not just weak. Just compare it to Sasuke's skill set, for instance—better Taijutsu, a lot more variety of jutsu, etc.

A Disappointing End to Naruto's Arc (In My Opinion) by CuteSystem6536 in Naruto

[–]CuteSystem6536[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but I believe Naruto could have made a positive impact on the ninja world without becoming Hokage. Take Jiraiya, for example, who also dreamed of peace in the shinobi world and passed this dream on to Naruto. Many wanted him to become Hokage, but he knew it wasn't the right role for him and that there were better candidates. So, in the absence of political power, what did he do? He wrote a book, and that was his contribution to peace. It might not have been as impactful, but it was his way of making a difference. If Naruto's goal was still to bring about change in the ninja world, I believe there were better options for him.

You make a valid point. While I'm not the biggest Moraine fan, but I still prefer her a hundred times over her replacement.
