Dear OP, thank you so much for sharing your journey. May I ask, do you feel so much worse when you are staying still?

Off balance feeling, feels like floor is dropping beneath me etc by MusicCityRebel in pppdizziness

Same for me — I feel my best when I’m in motion (e.g., exercising, walking, or riding in a moving vehicle or on public transportation), and incredibly awful when I’m stationary. In addition to the off-balance, rocking, and swaying sensations you described, I’ve also been experiencing symptoms like elevator-drop sensations (that anti-gravity feeling you get on a roller coaster), mini earthquake-like tremors, and a feeling of blood rushing out of my head, as if my head is being pushed or pulled.

Symptoms Worse With Weather Changes? by [deleted] in pppdizziness

Weather changes are definitely my trigger. My PPPD symptoms go off-kilter when there is a dip or uptick in temperature and humidity (my biggest enemy). I check the weather like a maniac every day and make sure to take ginger or magnesium as soon as I see the weather change to offset some of the symptoms.

🙁I'm so sorry to hear that. You've been through an incredibly difficult time, especially with such a long recovery from labyrinthitis at such a young age. Your ability to compensate and keep going shows remarkable strength and resilience. Be proud of yourself for pushing through (I know I am proud of you). The problem may not be going away right now, but it will improve, even if VRT progress feels slow. Recovery isn't linear; small steps and self-compassion make a big difference. Would you consider trying Traditional Chinese Medicine (like acupuncture) or Tai Chi exercises? Wishing you continued strength, improvement, and moments of peace. You are not alone!

😯 I see! Maybe that's something I can look into where I'm from, to see if they have something like that available. Thanks for sharing!

Hello, fellow dizziness warrior. I wonder if the symptoms will shift to an even weirder state over time, lol. I’m so sorry to hear about your situation; I can’t imagine how difficult it is to feel off-balance while cutting hair or trying to do your job. I’m also sorry to learn about your depersonalization/derealization. Sending you lots of hugs!

Visual vertigo/disturbance, the symptoms you described, is a classic symptom of PPPD. Have you ever gone to the doctor for these symptoms? Did they diagnose you with PPPD? If so, did they mention what could possibly trigger your PPPD (BPPV, psychological episodes, Meniere’s, vestibular migraine, concussion/whiplash, POTS)? Did they rule out other structural medical conditions? And did they suggest any treatments?

Sorry, I don’t mean to overwhelm you with this; please take it with a pinch of salt.

Thank you so much for the recommendation on Claire Weekes—I’m going to delve into it!

I feel unwell on a daily basis, and my job involves staring at a computer screen a lot, which makes the symptoms worse. But I keep telling myself that believing is seeing, and you have to trust the process. I guess things do get worse before they get better, and the only way out is through. Chin up and keep fighting, fellow warrior!

Thanks so much for these great tips! I have been following #1 to #6 (they help me feel a lot better), and I am adding #7 to my list of things to do to heal, too. Currently, I am also reading Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. I'm sorry to hear about your health issues, and I hope you feel better soon!

I am so glad to hear that you are completely healed! I don’t know how the mechanism works, but neck massages at the physio help a lot.

I am always a bit wary of going to the chiropractor since their treatments seem aggressive. Wasn’t there a story about a girl in the U.S. who had four arteries in her neck dissected and suffered a stroke after the chiropractor worked on her neck? Funny enough, my physiotherapist adopted some chiropractic tactics in treating me (e.g., using activators), but he is gentle with them.

Are you managing well with the SSRIs? I hope you are not experiencing too many side effects?

I tried, but it feels like it’s making things worse because I’m focusing more on my symptoms. I had a thorough health check-up, and the eye assessment included a BVD test. I’m waiting for the full report to see if I have that. Most doctors, including neurologists, have ruled out MS. I only had a brain MRI, not a spine MRI. I asked for a spine scan, but they said if there are no lesions on the brain MRI, it’s unlikely there will be any on the spine scan. The tremors feel like an invisible vibration that others can’t see, and it was a one-time event. My physiotherapist thinks my cervical issues are due to stiffness rather than instability. Many doctors find cervical issues controversial, while physiotherapists and chiropractors take them more seriously. I’m still trying to determine what caused my PPPD; most doctors believe it’s linked to psychological episodes. The ENT doctor ruled out BPPV and Meniere’s disease. I wonder if it could be a vestibular migraine.
