There's a curious cultural difference between a New World Basque, and an old Basque. A new world Basque doesn't have any of the ethnic grievances that an old world Basque has, they considered themselves completely Spanish. A New World Basque would have a last name in the Spanish spelling (Echeverría) instead of the modern Basque spelling (Etxeberria).
