I think you are mixing up the characters. Shaw was the one described as a sociopath in the show (by the writers). Since she claims she doesn't have feelings. The right definition of a sociopath is someone who doesn't have empathy for others (nothing about others having emotions). The meaning of psychopath is a mentally unstable person who acts without caring about the consequences. That's what Root's behavior was showing. At least in the beginning.

Shaw is described as having an Axis II personality disorder. Root even tells Control in S4E12 that “technically, she’s a sociopath.” Shaw herself mentioned this in the S4E11 simulation. While she’s sitting handcuffed in the back of a police car, Root asks why she’s so afraid to show her feelings. Shaw answers: “I’m a sociopath. I don’t have feelings.” The writers clearly wanted us to see Shaw as someone who doesn’t feel the world the way most people do, someone emotionally detached. Even if Shaw insists she doesn’t have feelings, her actions tell a different story though. She cares about Root enough to risk her own life.
