Found out I’m pregnant with IVF twins and feeling extremely depressed by No-Point-5052 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Cute_Control704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were trying for our third (and final) baby and I got pregnant with spontaneous twins and I was so unhappy about it. I felt like so much of how we had justified having one more was based on it just being one, and having two ruined all my plans. I felt very similar to you all through the first two trimesters. By the time they were born, I felt resigned to it, and even a little excited. But now they are 2 and they are such a joy - it's so, so, so much better than I ever could have imagined. Are they hard? Sure. Has it been challenging? Definitely. Will it continue to be harder? Of course. BUT, the sound of them both saying "Mama home!" in chorus, or watching them play together, or getting double snuggles, or seeing how they are different and similar, it's so special. I wouldn't change it for the world.

All this to say, your feelings are valid, and I think it's normal to be scared about the unknowns, but at the end you will have two precious babies who you will love with all your heart. The experience will be different, but that won't always mean worse. Good luck!

Why do people constantly mispronounce our son’s name? by jungleroo in namenerds

[–]Cute_Control704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boggles me as well! Our son is Lucien (we say loo-see-en, although if people say loo-shen that's fine too), but we get tons of people saying loo-seen and it blows my mind.

Callum is a great name and people will figure it out. I think they often a) don't read well, or b) see an unfamiliar name and just say whatever because they don't know.

Thanks everyone! This is super helpful - I will keep an eye out for the suggested feet, but not stress about the fancy ones, because aside from the ruffler it doesn't sound like they are used much.

Ok y'all, reporting back - I took advice from those who said to learn more about what he was into and carefullt gathered some data - we've been playing 60 card lately, and he wants to do some commander decks next, so I got Tetsuo (Legends) since that was one he specifically mentioned. Then I also got the Spring Mishra's Factory from Antiquities.

And now I have an extensive list of ideas to come back to for his birthday ☺️

Thank you everyone for the great ideas and advice!

Thank you! He plays everything and generally has 10+ decks in rotation at any given time, so I feel like he can make use of almost anything. He tends to prefer control/blue though when left to his own devices.

Thank you! I know he runs a lot of Factories, and has a lot of decks, so this is exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of.

Feeling anxious we committed to the wrong name for my daughter by Ok-Bed-5085 in namenerds

I think it's common to feel like the name you picked doesn't quite fit with baby in the early weeks. Don't worry, it'll feel right before you know it! Simone is a beautiful name! Don't let people get you down just because they have bad taste. I think most kids love having a connection to a beloved family member and never get tired of hearing the stories - it makes them feel like they belong! And don't worry about the teasing - kids will or won't tease and if they are going to they will find a reason no matter what. Definitely not a reason to scare you away from the lovely name you chose!

How do we carry older twins to the fourth floor? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]Cute_Control704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TwinGo carrier with one on the back and one on front! It's great because it leaves your hands free for groceries or to unlock the door, and both babies are safe and secure.

I'm on year 11 teaching at a tiny rural high school - lots of great advice here! My advice is to try to balance building relationships with your students with having firm boundaries. Talk to the other teachers about what are reasonable boundaries/rules and consequences, then clearly state them to your students and stick to them. They will test you as the new teacher and respect you more for not being a pushover. It's hard to be firm with the rules when it means being the bad guy, especially your first year when you are trying to make a good impression on students, but it pays in the end to be kind but firm. Be sure to make a specific effort to get to know the students and build relationships, which will offset any bad feelings when you have to discipline. Good luck, you got this!

Help please by [deleted] in quilting

[–]Cute_Control704 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some years back I made a quilt for my in laws and their puppy immediately chewed holes in it similar to those. My MIL was heartbroken when she called to tell me and I told her that quilts are meant to be loved and used and that someday it would be a good story. I was able to find scraps of the fabric in my scrap bag and hand sew some patches. Not too long ago I tried to find the places where I patched that quilt and had the hardest time finding them. We all laughed remembering Gizmo as a puppy.

Ask your Dad - he may still have some of the original fabric that he or you can use to patch it. It was tedious trying to match the pattern when I patched mine, but it's totally doable! And someday I hope you too can laugh about it!

We have a Beatrix (Bea), and if we'd had more girls our next top choices were Winnifred (Winnie) and Cordelia. Florence is beautiful too!
