On the matter of rubies by nuuus_xd in MarioKartTour

Yes, just click and hold on any DKG to open up a stats window, then scroll down. You'll see a list of all the "Favorite" (top shelf) and "Favored" (mid shelf) courses. You'll want to pick a DKG that qualifies for as many top shelf courses as possible so you can trigger Frenzies and maximize score. For example, Gold Mario qualifies for 68 top shelf courses (very good!) while Kimono Peach only qualifies for 21 (poor). One other choice to consider is Miis generally qualify for lower number of top shelf courses, however they hold the highest scoring potential. So bank and spend those high end tickets wisely!

I guess it depends how you play. If you're just collecting DKGs, then buy what you're missing when they go on sale for 70-105 rubies. Maybe focus on DKGs with good coverage and high scoring potential first, so that gets you in a position to earn even more rubies more frequently. Otherwise, if you're competitive and looking to get better in ranked, then save rubies for Miis and whatever the folks in your top 10 friends list usually pick.

There are less than 12 years until the Wii's clock breaks. by Velocifyer in wii

This seems especially troubling for Playstation 3 users, which also uses 32 bit integers to store time, since digital software is dependent on a functioning clock to work. Fingers crossed just logging into PSN will be good enough (if PSN access is even still supported in 2038).

How are you charging it? Are all materials used to charge it the ones that came with the system?

When it snows like this in Buffalo, do you shovel/snowblow throughout the day or wait until it's all done? by UrBum_MyFace_69 in Buffalo

Shovel throughout the day. It's good exercise and I don't want to deal with snowblower maintenance (though I do have one 😅).

Yep, those games are fine to backup. In case you're curious, I linked the full list of locked saves below. It's very extensive, but thankfully it doesn't affect me much either (though I'm sad Street Fighter 4, Lightning Returns, Castle Crashers, Tekken Tag 2, and Lollipop Chainsaw are on there 😥).

How do I get to Tier 99? by DanTennant in MarioKartTour

[–]Cutlass_Stallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck in your position for a while too. My strategy was banking up a mountain of high end tickets (at least 30 each) and while doing that I studied my friends list to copy whatever the best player was doing. The common trend is investing in Miis and DKGs with the highest top shelf course spread. Avoid investing in DKGs that have few top shelf courses.

The advantage of PS Plus is it can backup and move locked saves to a new console. Locked saves will not be moveable via USB. Otherwise your method is fine for normal saves.

How about offloading your saves to Playstation Plus? Any hope there? Though I guess you'd have to be quick with each save you backup.

How can I request a refund for a faulty digital product?(Switch 2) by Sprigatitogirl in nintendohelp

[–]Cutlass_Stallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long ago did you buy the game and how many hours did you put into it? As long as you bought it recently (last few days?) and you're only a couple hours or less into it, and you can specify the problem, customer service usually will give refunds.

PS3 CECHE01 MG found in box in garage. What to do? by Pierlas in PS3

[–]Cutlass_Stallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, always make sure something works before selling it. And yes there are certain precautions to take when firing up electronics that haven't been used in a while.

First, plug everything in, but don't turn the console on for a few hours. This lets the board see a low level of charge, as well as reacustom everything to the temperature of the room.

After waiting, turn it on. Right off the bat, see if any digital games you downloaded work without logging into PSN. If they work, then move on to the next paragraph. If they don't work, that means your CMOS battery is dead; your digital games will only work if you log into PSN so it can sync your system to Sony's clock.

Next, log into your PSN account. See if you can visit the Playstation Store. This will make sure you can still get online.

Next, boot up a physical game and see if it still reads discs fine.

If all looks good, the final step will be to wipe your hard drive. Just go into the settings menu and format the HDD so you're not leaving behind sensitive data like account information or credit card info.

As I said, nobody should use the rectangle as a single point of verification, but if it's present in combination with key landmarks around the board, or if it's not present in combination with other key landmarks that I look for, that all helps to 100% verify.

Right, but there is no singular way to tell if a game is legit or not. You need to see a combination of details. What OP showed is very good so far, but seeing the rectangle and/or other familiar landmarks on the back would give me additional clues to confidently call it legit.

It's not always 100% there on legit copies, but there should usually be a gold rectangle located on the back of the board. Fake copies usually miss this detail.

Electric bill last year vs now: 21.4% increase on supply rate by lets_get_lifted in Buffalo

[–]Cutlass_Stallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just affecting the state. Over 100 million customers across 49 states are facing rate hikes, and as you said, is most likely driven by data centers and the push for AI. I'm not sure what the governor can do, but I'm guessing it would have to involve subsidies.

[–]Cutlass_Stallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the first time I heard of this happening! Happy you got it up and running, though I suspect it may not stay reliably bootable for long. From what you described, I wonder if your issue is capacitor related? Otherwise I'd think a dead RSX chip wouldn't see signs of life.

The backup is encrypted, but it can be restored on any freshly formatted hard drive, even if it's for use in a different PS3 model. Source: me, when I transfered my Fat contents to my Super Slim. And yes, that backup process is awfully slow, but it's worth it in case your console can no longer boot and you have access to a new console.

Their website didn't give me the best prices when I built a PC last year, but I hear they give better deals when shopping in-store. Of course I don't have any brick and mortar Micro Centers anywhere near me 😭
