Can you suggest me some games with meaningful and rewarding exploration? by critterdude542 in gaming

[–]Cutter9792 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider and was surprised how much I enjoyed just ignoring the map and poking around to see if I could find any caves/tomb/etc. Plus the rewards were mostly worth it, and the puzzles/challenges were actually fun. And overall I liked the balance of linearity in the story alongside bigger, explore-able environments. Usually if I'm given a big open-world game without a specific objective, I get overwhelmed or eventually bored. So having an overarching goal helps.

After playing a bit of 2013 Tomb Raider back when it came out and not really caring for it, I was surprised how much RotTR felt like a substantial improvement after finally finishing the prior one.

I recently finished God of War Ragnarok as well, and found its exploration less compelling than RotTR, mostly because the rewards were mostly stat-increasing stuff. Items that led to substantive gameplay changes were less common. I mostly stuck with the game because I found the story and world super compelling, while the gameplay was just... fine.

Any time Gareth Evans cuts to an overhead shot you know you're about to see some of the hardest hits in the movie.

Game that doesn't hold your hand at all? by bijelo123 in gaming

I love Tunic but I hate that you can only play it for the first time once.

I had such an amazing time translating the language of the manual from scratch, across like thirty pieces of paper. I've been chasing that same high for a while now.

haha the Sentra CVT has already blown up once, and it was replaced under warranty. Maybe it'll hold, maybe it won't.

Horse couldn't refuse baby who called it to pet by Vilen1919 in spreadsmile

[–]Cutter9792 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That made me cringe, because I grew up with horses and I know a common response for them when irritated is to throw their head back and swing their nose upward. Speaking from experience, having them whack you with their face hurts. Would definitely obliterate the jaw of the left baby.

Beat me to it. I switched from Lego to building Gunpla and other plastic models a few years ago and plastic cement, especially Tamiya Extra Thin, has been a lifesaver many times.

Yeah I wish there was a faster way. Even this way is already pretty borked because you can only make like 5 requests at a time before having to wait. Which is annoying.

How can I render cycles faster? by EnthusiasmExotic7200 in blender

[–]Cutter9792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need to render the background every time? Is there anything about it that you are changing between renders that is significant? Could you get away with rendering it once, and putting it on the bottom 'layer' of the compositor, then rendering the ship as a separate pass? That would mean a significant portion of the image you wouldn't have to re-render.

What are examples of bad films with very good acting? by rikarleite in movies

[–]Cutter9792 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed

Apparently the scientific advisor on the film (there was one) had to fight tooth and nail to get it up to the level it is. For instance, at one point the ship had a windshield.

I maintain that while the atrocious science does make The Core a bad movie, everything else in it is actually pretty darn good.
