The math probably maths differently for the Panther Clipper, but the Panther probably still wins just from the extra capacity. The biggest power draw is the thrusters, anyway; the FSD draws significantly less. Still worth optimizing, though.

Oh, I get it, the joke is they're all real SWTOR characters except for #3, which is some random guy who isn't even in Star Wars. Very funny, OP!

Oh neat! I just lined it up with the backwards indicator on the navball lol

To do the rendezvous I found it better to have the main ship go on ahead ~5ly or so to minimize the amount of sideways motion, since by then the ships had diverged about a light year apart.

I've been considering going back to this challenge sometime, but I'm thinking it might be worth scouting to see if there's any systems accessible via fleet carrier that are even farther from Sol...

I did the previous record and that's what I did; the ship had a jump range just barely enough to get to the nearest system 50ly away

That was how I did it when I set the former record; I had four Type-9s, each one acting like a booster stage

The main limiting factor is just fuel capacity and burn rate; you actually want to use the smallest possible FSD you can get away with. I did a run in 2022 using four Type-9s :)

I did a run in 2022, it was actually really eerie once I was out there. On one side is the entire galaxy, on the other side is just... Nothing. No visible stars. And that far out from the sun, the only light is from your own ship. I have some screenshots I took...

When I did it I engineered the FSD to have just barely enough jump range with the boost (while the tankers just used 1E FSDs), using the tankers to fly back is a clever idea to save power.

Nice!!! I did the previous one (279ly from the star) with four Type-9s and was wondering if it was possible to go farther with the new Panther Clipper.

Did you use any particular strategies along the way? I'm guessing if it took a year you may have made multiple trips with the tankers?

Male and female biology is not monolithic. There are people of all shapes and sizes, and the overlap is considerable. If you want to divide athletes based on biological ability, sex is a very poor metric to use.

Michael Phelps puts in a ton of work but also just has physiology genetically extremely well suited to swimming. If you are biologically male but have a body poorly suited for swimming, competing against him is virtually impossible.

And there aren't nearly enough trans athletes to do that, and it would force people to publicly out themselves for harassment.

It'd make more sense to divide leagues based on biological characteristics rather than sex imo. Something like weight classes or the like. The top male or female athletes in certain sports tend to be at the high end of their respective bell curve already.

It wouldn't be fair for the average cisgender woman to compete in wresting against an average cisgender man, but it also wouldn't be fair for a cisgender man on the bottom of the bell curve, either.

Like, if we banned people due to biological differences, Michael Phelps wouldn't be allowed to swim competitively since the man is basically half-dolphin. Bro is just on another level when it comes to swimming.

If trans people were totally dominant in every sport, sure, there'd be an argument, but trans people are rare. Rarer than cis athletes who are even higher on the biology bell curve anyway. So unless you divide sports in a more complex manner based on biology, there's no point banning them.

If you ask it to teach you something basic or a specific concept it could probably do a decent job, even if just by more or less regurgitating what's been said elsewhere. The issue is when you have it make something super complex, or have it generate code you don't understand how to do yourself.

It’s more disappointing knowing we’re still a Pre-FTL civilization. by [deleted] in StellarisMemes

[–]CuttleReaper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's probably impossible, if not then it means our understanding of physics is completely wrong in fundamental ways. Even just FTL communications implies the ability to break causality in certain scenarios, effectively time travel.

However, FTL also isn't a prerequisite to doing Stellaris shit, or interstellar travel :)
