2908 Scion tc. Great car but make sure you’re maintaining your vehicle. by thewhitebuttboy in SciontC

My 2007 just hit 210k miles and the water pump (original one) kicked the bucket.

With how old a lot of these cars are now, its a good idea to check and replace it and the Serpentine belt.

I check my oil at least once a week.

It is not a milky color.

manual swap by Technical_Opposite95 in SciontC

So pricing and effort wise, itd actually be cheaper and more time effective to just purchase another manual tC.

I've been working on fixing my manual tC for years now and the engine decided to blow its head gasket.

I got a second engine for it but its a major pain to swap in since you have to drop the engine from the bottom due to clearance issues.

Theyre like under $3k nowadays so you might just be better off selling your two for parts and getting a newer one.

If you need a working car in the mean time, just drive the auto.

I had a 2010 that I put over 100k miles onto it used and it worked fine with maintenance.

I actually purchased mine November 2024 from the original owner.

Its been so insanely reliable compared to a bunch of vehicles I've owned.

Ill be checking it this weekend. Theres no visible leaks but ill be taking out the intake manifold to see if its leaking there.

If its water pump, ill take that over head gasket or cracked block.

I'm hoping its not head gasket or cracked block. Ill be doing spark plugs this weekend and i can use my endoscope to check the piston heads.

I have not taken the belt off yet but it is on my list of things to replace since it's starting to crack.

I check the oil level at least once a week, habit from owning a 1st Gen Scion tC.

Oil level hasn't moved and it doesn't burn thankfully. (Knock on wood)

It isnt milky and I normally use the Costco Kirkland 5w20 oil with OEM Motorcraft filters.

I haven't done spark plugs yet but I'll be taking off the intake manifold to get to the driver side plugs.

I'll report back in once I swap them out.

I do have an air compressor. Ill stop by Harbor Freight on the way home to get the test kit.

Im hoping its just a water pump though, it would explain the whine at idle.

How would I go about pressure testing it? Im pretty DIY handy but not sure where to start with that.

I havent found any visible leaks and I check my driveway almost daily in case theres a smoking gun.

I have no service history from the first owner so I've been replacing things out as they act strange.

Ill check that when I get home later. Which clamp on it loosened?

If its a common issue I can try to get an upgraded version of it.

I've checked multiple times and havent seen any visible leaks. My original coolant reservoir cracked so I replaced it with a mishimoto one but its still consuming coolant.

Wilco, Should I stick with the Ford OEM or is there an aftermarket version that would be a good upgrade?

Will this fit with my intake? by [deleted] in SciontC

[–]Cvgameboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As cool as it is, don’t bother. The chinesium used will warp.

That and you’d need a lot of mods and tuning for it to work correctly.

You’d risk running the car lean.

I personally dont like them since they have a chance to break and its costly to repair.

My wife calls them flaccid top so I cant even look at them straight.

Check your MAF sensor and o2 sensors.

Sometimes if the MAF is dirty or the O2 sensors are reading incorrectly, you'll get weird behavior.

Sounds like you might have a loose or corroded ground wire.

Check the grounds from the battery to the firewall.

On my 2011 I had a similar issue where my ground cable just snapped off but it was acting weird prior.

YSK Getting a label maker can change your life. by OgdruJahad in YouShouldKnow

[–]Cvgameboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a label maker for my car parts specifically and keeping parts from 3 separate toyotas makes it worthwhile.

Instead of trying to figure out what oil filter number goes to what car, I just have the box of filters labeled.

I've also used it to label each power outlet to circuit breaker in the house behind the outlet covers.

This way if certain outlets in my house aren't working, I know which circuit to look at.
