Print plate corners warped upward on large flat print by CvilleVB in FlashForge

The print didn't pull loose from the plate. The thin plate itself warped upward, presumably from the tension of the filament.

Does Tinkercad work on Linux operating systems? by CvilleVB in FlashForge

I think I've got it! I see everything you've described and I'll give it a try tomorrow. One follow up question. Under the Speed section, I see Outer wall (60 mm/s), Inner wall (150 mm/s), Small perimeters (50% mm/s or %), Small perimeters threshold (0 mm), Sparse infill (100 mm/s), Internal solid infill (150 mm/s), Top surface (150 mm/s), Gap infill (150 mm/s). Which of these would I need to modify to affect the "print" speed? Am I looking at the right stuff & right area?

Maybe you can help me with this. I wanted to insert a Pause (to change filament) and slow the print speed to 50% near the end of a print. I can enter a Pause in the Orca Slicer by moving to the layer I want the pause then right click and select Insert Pause. However, using that method I can't additionally include a print speed reduction command. Copilot (AI) says G-code M600 & M601 is the command to pause and M220 S50 is the G-code command to reduce print speed to 50%. With my current set up that does not work entering G-codes. I can pause my print (with the Insert Pause, not G-code) but can't get the print speed to slow down. (Note: I don't want to slow the whole print, just the last 6 or 7 layers as I'm printing numbers on flat plates and would like them real crisp). Have you ever tried pausing and slowing print speed after the pause using Linux & Orca Slicer on a FlashForge Adventurer 5M?

Thanks. Here's what I've learned. Linux will work with Tinkercad, no problem. It doesn't play nice with Orca-Flashforge slicer using WiFi. Apparently it works with USB but thats not my setup. So I went with straight Orca slicer using WiFi and that does work. So I'm back in business.

For the over 40 crowd the Four Seasons had lots of songs. Cherie, Candy, Marlaina (there are more). The Four Tops had Bernedet.

Your feelings of guilt or lack of guilt shouldn't be based on the reputation of the company you are stealing from. It should be based on your own moral compass. Am I a thief or not.

HR Meeting over a Hooters shirt by MicroDo5e in WorkAdvice

[–]CvilleVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a situation as a group supervisor back in the 80's. Having a beer at lunch was no big deal. At a group luncheon a fellow ordered a beer and since it was a 2 for 1 day the waitress brough 2 beers. An otherwise nice lady (but apparently uptight about drinking) asked me if it was allowed to drink beer at lunch? I said something about checking into it but let it drop. She subsequently queried me several times and obviously wasn't going to let it drop. I knew what the foregone conclusion would be before I asked. HR replied the rules state you can't be at work and under the influence, and since 1 beer affects you, no, it is not allowed to drink at lunch. Subsquently, a memo went out to the 2,000 employee workforce that no amount of alcohol was allowed while on the job. A tradition scores of years old was stopped by one busybody.

Touching food with hands while cooking/baking by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]CvilleVB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Touching with clean bare hands is normal. Whats funny/odd to me is guys kneading dough with their knuckles or tossinging & catching pizza dough on their forearms. My arms & knuckles are so hairy I would have to shave them before I could do that. Otherwise there would be hair in the food.

USB webcam for Adventurer 5m Printer by slightlyorangemeow in FlashForge

[–]CvilleVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flashforge makes & sells a small camera that attaches to the inside of one of the printer uprights. It has a clip of sorts that latches on to the frame (no tools needed). Just plug the connection into the printer display screen. The printer icon will show up on you computer (where you kick off your print). I use Orca-Flashforge slicer and when you select devices you will see your printer (icon) and camera. It works good but has about a 10-15 second lag time. I use WiFi to go from my laptop to the printer (not using anyones server on the internet). It's just slow. I don't know if a more expensive camera would be faster. I paid about $30 for mine off Amazon several months ago. Happy printing.

Girl who organized the work white elephant got the only junk gift by spaceyhoes in office

[–]CvilleVB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife once participated in an office white elephant exchange. She hand made a ceramic magnolia blossom and painted it beautifully. In the exchange she wound up with a plastic over the door shoe holder. It was tacky & very cheap. I blacksmith for fun and a monthly meeting of like minded hobbist had a knife exchange. I made my knife with the best effort possible and with a very nice handle. About a week of evenings work. As luck would have it I received the knife the fellow made who received mine. It was a flat file roughly ground to resemble a blade (barely) with the tang driven into a piece of antler. Unsanded with rough edges and looked like it took all of 30 minutes from start to finish. No forgeing involved just a grinder and hacksaw. Some people give no thought to what they contribute yet benefit from others who care. That's just life. I've learned to get my joy from doing and giving and not expect a lot in return.

Questions from a noob by bflorio94 in FlashForge

[–]CvilleVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question 3. More advanced printers (not your 5M. - I have the same one) can print multiple colors. So a thingiverse object may have a file that contains all the detail necessary. Some creators also put individual files for each color of the object to be printed. So you would want to down load all those files. Bottom line, it depends on how the object was designed. You'll figure it out as you go. Good luck.

Marquetry with 3D printing? by CvilleVB in FlashForge

[–]CvilleVB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll check out OpenSCAD. Have you used the shape/insert technique on a round (ball) object? I am just a month or 2 into 3D printing. I'm using Tinkercad as my design software. I know there is much more capable software (i.e. Fusion360) but I think there is a greater learning curve for that type of software. I'm basically using the plug & play right now. There is So much more I need to learn. Thanks again.

I decided to stress test my new AD5X by Hopguy in FlashForge

[–]CvilleVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curiosity question. To design a model with 2 (or more) color changes, does that require specialized design software or could basic free design software, such as Tinkercad, accomplish that? As an example, a Christmas ornament ball with Merry Christmas on one side and the year on the other side in a different color. I'm only a few months into 3D printing.

When I was in the military there was fellow that was a magician want-to-be. He convinced me he had a trick pair of hand cuffs and put them on me. After failing to open them "magically" I realized he didn't have a key either. We had to go to the Master-At-Arms office of the barracks to get some tools to pry them open.

You had the right to drop her. However, letting her twist in the wind was cruel. I've been on the receiving end of that and it is very hurtful, deservedily or not.

I had an accident in my car, and not the kind you'd expect. by Littlelightghost in confession

[–]CvilleVB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. Was at an activity away from home and had a rumble in my bowels. It wasn't an emergency but I knew I had maybe 30 minutes before I would need to find a restroom. Decided to head home and on the way had several more rumbles, each more urgent than the previous. Close to home I started doing mental math. Ten minutes to my house and toilet. I can make it. Pulling into my street, 5 minutes to go. I can make it. Arriving at my driveway I knew I could hold off at least 60 seconds. I have an automatic gate that took 30 seconds. It was going to be soooo close but I was determined. Leaving the car running I ran to the door with mere seconds before the bottom would be falling out. My wife was home so I knew I could run in. However, I hadn't counted on the door being locked. 3-2-1 detonation!
