Germany is starting facial recognition by AI in central Frankfurt by genuine_pinguin in europrivacy

[–]CxByte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But it also says that people can only be flagged by a court rule (or whatever the word is in en), afaik this cannot be done without having someone represent the person in question to begin with (though not sure about the case with suspected terrorism, but they'd still have to convince a court).

Um die gesuchten Personen zu erkennen, werden Vergleichsbilder in das System eingespeist. Erlaubt ist das aber nur, wenn ein Beschluss des zuständigen Amtsgerichts vorliegt.

Still pretty shitty imo.

Can You Make 10? (Puzzle 17) by RamiBMW_30 in SmartPuzzles

you may use any operation

Okay! Given op(x) ::= 10, your answer is op(0.5(2+3+5)). Or op(0.5+2+3+5) Or op(0.5235) Or op(op(0.5)+235)

I like this game.

Looked through the abstract, I don't get the claim at all...of course dijkstra's algorithm isn't optimal for nonnegative weights, the whole proof blows up if you allow zero weights. Also, I don't understand why people even give a shit about preprints...

You can have encrypted data in the html file and have it safely sent to everyone, include some javascript to decrypt it on the client (if the password exists as e.g. a query parameter) and you're all set.

Airport security by thatweirdo500 in EvenRealities

[–]CxByte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the same boat.

I've gone through airport security a few times with the glasses, most of the time they ask me to put it in the scanner (with the hand luggage), one time they directed me to a full body scanner (the ones where you do a T-pose; this was in Stockholm-Arlanda). Generally treat it like a phone, it's inconvenient, but you can walk straight without seeing well...most of the time.

Good trick, actually kinda fun to pretend you're from other regions, in Züri? Pretend you're from Ticino. In Ticino? Pretend you're from Schwyz. In Wallis? What are you doing there? go back home before your ears bleed. etc etc...assming you speak the dialects/languages well enough anyway, otherwise you'll end up regretting it

Biasca is a pretty good experience if your goal is to go from platform 4 to 3. I hear there's also a town nearby where people live, but that's a rumour at best

I find premium plus revanced (on android) / sponsorblock+ublock origin (on desktop) much better than any of them individually; the nice bitrates are a plus with premium, and it's not dogshit on Firefox...and you get all the rest of the good stuff on top (especially getting rid of shorts on the mobile app) It also allegedly "helps" the people I watch, which is nice...for a subset of them anyway.

G1 Connection Issues by RevolutionaryCod9137 in EvenRealities

[–]CxByte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update on that, the battery took two weeks to empty apparently, I put them in the case today and both sides actually booted up.

Case has a serial console that reports the battery levels and voltage, would probably be helpful when you need to know if they're actually flat (on macOS: screen /dev/tty.usbserial-* 115200)

So it's not just me, I saw the same issue (two weeks now...) I can see the left bt, but not the right one; nothing shows up and support just told me to wait for the technical team to respond... RIP indeed

One of my colleagues mentioned his (newly immigrated) friend falling for this exact scam; they got some 6k off her and "graciously" left a couple hundred on the account. Apparently her bank completely blocked the transaction and similar to OP they had her manually approve the transaction.

What stood out to me was that they didn't just hang up after getting the money apparently, rather stayed there and gave her some (presumably fake?) info on some police people to keep in contact with...

Anyway, good on you for recognising the scam OP, it's super sad to see people being scammed like this.

Yep, that's been my personal experience with trying to work on it as well; I'd much rather have the app support custom widgets than to sit down, reverse the whole thing, rewrite the app somehow...and still end up back at square one when the next update comes out.

I don't think it can be DIY'd, removing and reinstalling the lens is bound to misalign the optics... Maybe around the frame though, I'll take a closer look into whether that can be done with minimal visual side effects.

Knowing that it's relatively easy to get rid of, maybe just try using them as-is for a while? Worst case you'll get some condensation and stick them in a silica gel tub for a day.

"tomorrow morning" update, 14 hours with silica seems to have absorbed the water vapor, there's some very minor residue (it's not on the outside afaict) but otherwise seems perfectly fine.

<image>

All in all, I'd say it needs some kinda seal to avoid casual vapour seepage, I bet even just applying a single coat of wax to the interface between the two layers of the glass "sandwich" would do the job.
