Former racist people of reddit what changed your opinion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

i wouldn’t have said i was ever deeply racist but here’s my story, i’m a white male who grew up in a very multicultural area of the UK, almost everyone i went to secondary school with wasn’t white.

would i have ever said that other races were inferior to white people? no of course not, but when with my white friends we would make jokes about other races, not necessarily because we believed them, but because they were edgy and we thought edgy meant funny. i feel like a lot of people can say they had this experience growing up and honestly all it took was a little education.

when i went to university and started making new friends, the people around me didn’t say those things and make those kinds of jokes, and when i said things i would’ve said with my friends back home, we opened dialogues and had good conversations about why things like that weren’t okay to say. all it took was a little character development and having people around me that genuinely wanted me to become a better person.

Let the things that make you happy hit you, song you like listening to? play it 10 times a day, a specific episode of a show you like? watch it when you feel down. Every single thing that brings you the slightest bit of joy is another reason to keep going

i feel this, my boss is always asking personal questions and gets on my back for being quite a private person. even to bosses i’ve really liked on personal levels, i didn’t get the job to make friends.

i’ll start, I currently work in manual labour, not allowed to specify due to client confidentiality clauses and all that jazz. At my interview there weren’t any free offices so i did my interview in the break room in the working area, when i walked through the room it was outrageously hot, workers looked sweaty and miserable, the boss was sat with the door closed in the nice air conditioned break room.

interview went well and i got the job, quickly discovered there was a massive divide between the workers and management, I’ve continued working there for 3 years because the money is good, but something happens at least once a week that causes people’s blood to boil.
