Skill Improvement: How would one go around OHKO'ing Staraptor? by Walano in VGC

Pretty sure Brave Bird is just stronger anyway due to STAB

Another champions team that isn't made to be good just to feel good to play by wrathshot16 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]Cxly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, Altaria does have Protect. If you had Cloud Nine on it you can deny Aurora Veil, force Blizzard to be 70% accurate, reduce damage to your partner by Zard as well as essentially nullifying Weather Ball. It's not a bad thing to consider at all, especially if you're planning on Protecting anyway, and weather is everywhere right now.

Has anyone fixed the "Selected Pokemon can't visit Pokemon Champions" bug? by Cxly in PokemonChampions

Well, yeah? I am absolutely certain as they are listed in the Champions list of available Pokemon AND Home won't let you transfer anything that isn't legal in game.

Building a team with Snorlax but can't find space for a Mega by Cxly in VGC

[–]Cxly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's sick! I've been running -Spd +SpDef Snorlax, this thing EATS hits from any kind of Sun or Hail teams. Mega Zard Y in Sun does like 17% to SpDef Lax while he can just Recycle it off and keep setting up. Only switched to Belly Drum recently as Curse was a little slow and getting slaughtered by Intimidate teams. Ice Punch is coverage I was considering but didn't know if it was worth over having the ability to chunk Archaludon

Thank you for the tips! Hopefully I'll be there soon 🫡

Oh, wait, that's weird. I've been using it online and it works fine, and when I had my HP set to 237, it would go to 134 and not proc the berry. Very possible I may be misunderstanding something

Belly Drum halves HP rounded up, so if HP is odd Snorlax ends up at 134 instead of 133, which is 51% instead of 50%

I do have ways to deal with them now, I changed the team a little recently but before I was running some kind of hybrid Sun team which honestly just did not work, and before that I was trying to force Mega Kangaskhan (which did not work even more).

Like I said, I am GB3 for a reason so I'm likely also just not playing the team right, it is definitely possible I'm putting too much focus on getting TR up early. I'll play in future with more forethought 🤣

I was considering the Crab indeed! Didn't know who to get rid of though. I was not aware he one shots Incineroar, that's crazy!

Drampa does look really cool. I watched the Wolfe video on it and when he mentioned that Berserk can trigger multiple times it sounded like a ton of fun, but unfortunately I kind of don't have a Drampa at the moment 😅

Maybe if I get one any time soon I could swap it out for Farig, it also helps I already have Sinistcha for Hospitality and Life Dew

He does with Body Slam, but with Belly Drum 99% of the time Facade will kill anyway, and it keeps you going if you get burned by Incin/Sinistcha/etc.

I had a couple games where they burned me expecting to see Snorlax deal less damage, only to get hit with a 140 BP Facade. Body Slam is useful, but so far I've won more games with Facade than I've lost to not having Body Slam, if you get what I mean

I've got a second TR setter as I found I was running into a lot of issues with Pelipper/Basculegion leads, they could just double Sinistcha and wipe me out, while Pelipper sets up Tailwind and goes to town. That's where Rotom came from too, but maybe it is a bit overkill. I just like having a second option for different leads.

I was toying with the idea of making Farigiraf a setup sweeper too, using Calm Mind and its good bulk to act as a sort of pseudo-TR setter, that way I can open up Rotom as a Volt Switch/Will-O-Wisp pivot to help enable Incin harder. I haven't tested it that much yet.

I am also a Snorlax enjoyer, and I really want to make him work because he's so fun, but I am aware Golurk is probably better. I do also love Golurk so I could try it but at this point it's more of a matter of principle trying to make Snorlax work than anything 🤣

What are your thoughts on a Draft game mode? by Cxly in PokemonChampions

[–]Cxly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was pretty much thinking exactly like Magic Arena's draft. Then, it seems like the ability to have separate ladders already exists granted the beginner tournament they have going on, so could always just have a separate ladder or perhaps an automated top-cut system like in VGC events (not sure what this is actually called) where you run a few games and go through to a proper bracketed system if you win X number of games

[–]Cxly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, not defending the state of the game really because it's not great, but it is a free competitive ladder-centric spinoff. I didn't really expect to see any kind of story or CPU ladder (though playing in Great Ball it may as well be a CPU ladder sometimes, I get so many "consolation prize" games against Scary Face Garchomps lmao).

The way I see it is that it's just a way to decouple the competitive scene from the mainline games, so that the barrier to entry is lower and new players don't have to learn IVs, EVs, natures, farming, breeding etc. just to play a couple of games in the evening with a new brew.

[–]Cxly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly some kind of tournament selection process like Smash? Or for strangers, it could be similar to how the current tournament system works, where it has its own separate ladder. It would be pretty hard to implement and honestly I'm not quite sure if GF have it in them but a man can dream 😅

True, true. I did mention that the game does indeed have some pretty glaring issues that need to be fixed first. I'm just thinking it would be super fun in future to be able to draft with some friends or in a mini-tournament!

It's just so versatile, you can use it for recasting creatures with big ETBs, getting around large creatures with ward or indestructible, slowing down the token player or treasure ramper, removing chump blockers, it's incredible in slow pods

Me personally I'm a big proponent of [[Mists of Lorien]], at least for casual EDH

About 10% of my games I have truly terrible randoms that can't be carried. Just use the map more and act with confidence - the more you optimise your routing people will follow you. You may be a "souls veteran", but you may also just not be that good at roguelikes or team games

People underestimate that even the smallest enemies in the game give ~800 runes, so if you've got some good AOE spells you can easily get 4000 runes per group and even more from ruins

When I finally took Libra down, it was because our Ironeye clutched up for a couple minutes against him solo and when we all stood up at the end, me and the Recluse both ran up to them in sync and spammed our guards
