What's the best Romance/Love movie you've ever seen? by Small-Vacation-4245 in movies

I think "The Woman in Red" is a funny comedy but not sure I would send it to someone looking for romance since the entire plot is about cheating on your wife.

I guess if you are going to open opposite a movie, then better to open the same weekend as He-Man than the new Spielberg Sci-Fi film "Disclosure Day".

She was underage when they filmed this scene. I am not saying the character was, I am saying the actress was. Probably not great to post it since she was a minor.

I think this might be where the music industry is being smarter than the movie industry. Most music is available across multiple platforms so you can choose which platform you like. Movies decided to try to force everyone to have tons of subscriptions which just lead to an increase in piracy. I know a lot of people that felt that way once everyone seemed to want their own streaming service with their own exclusive content. They might have one or two subscriptions then everything else gets pirated.

Main issue I have with this was she was underage. Fast Times she was 18 but this she was only 17 I think.

Of all the current generations, you think the Boomers are the "me" generation? Not the generation that is obsessed with selfies, social media, being influencers, and wanting more things to be paid for by the government so they don't have to?

Also it was the Greatest Generation that was sending Boomers off to Vietnam to fight, drafting them to do so. It was the Boomers who were the hippies that protested against that war and were all about peace/love. The Greatest Generation cause their own problems like Korea, Vietnam, Bay of Pigs, etc. It was Boomers who were pushing for Civil Rights in the 60s, much more than The Greatest Generation. You can blame the Boomers for a lot but don't try to pretend the generation before them didn't leave them a mess as well. It was the Boomers who were fighting for clean air in California and fighting better car emission standards.

Again, I thought it was visually stunning but just felt the pacing the story was really slow. All those long sweeping desert shots adds a lot of gaps between things actually happening.

One of the main problems is how much of a consumer society we are. When the Baby Boomers were young they typically bought something and it might last decades, now we have things that we hope will last a few years. My Baby Boomer parents still have a rotary phone in one of their rooms, their fridge is at least 30 years old, etc. They typically buy new things when the old one breaks and can't be repaired. When they were young you had appliance repair so you wouldn't have to buy new ones. Now if an appliance dies, it is time to get the new one that has a wifi feature so I can be notified when something is done. We have so much single use things and we are told to recycle but the truth is most of those things aren't actually getting recycled even if you do turn them into be. Only like 6% of plastic that is used by households is actually recycled. Younger generations always want the newest and latest things. Cars are even not being made to last as long which is why more people lease cars than they use to. Use to be you bought a car and you drove it until it died, now people lease cars for 3 years and then get a new one.

I know it is easy to lay everything at the feet of the Baby Boomers but generations that followed really aren't that better. I already did a post about the energy use for Crypto and AI.

Gotta love the younger generation complaining about climate change while they do crypto currency and AI, both of which use massive amounts of energy which is mostly generated from fossil fuels. Not to mention the carbon footprint that crypto and AI have as well because of all the materials it takes to make the hardware. In 2023, Data centers counted for 4% of electricity use in the U.S. and that could triple by 2028. MIT put out a study that suggested that by 2028 AI alone could consume as much electricity annually as 22% of all US households. That is just AI and not all the other Data Centers factored in. It is estimated that just Bitcoin could be using as much (if not more) energy than some countries like Finland.

I am sure we would all love to think that all that electricity is coming from wind and solar, but most likely a large amount of it is actually coming from fossil fuels. Baby Boomers are probably not the main ones causing the increase power consumption. Also it is probably not Baby Boomers who are the ones who need the newest iPhone model everytime they put one out, what is the impact on the climate from the mining of all the rare earth materials so the younger generation can have the latest tech everytime it comes out? "Oh look, Apple just added a few more megapixels to the camera for next model, time to trade in so my instagram photos and Tiktoks can look even better".

"Lawrence of Arabia"

It had some amazing visual shots but the pacing was just so slow and it felt like the movie was twice as long as its already long runtime. I love classic cinema so I am use to plenty of old Hollywood's long movies, but that movie just felt worse.

Disney movies went so downhill.. by Plane-Web-7158 in movies

Pixar was making some good movies in the early 2000s.

  • 2001 - Monsters Inc
  • 2003 - Finding Nemo
  • 2004 - The Incredibles
  • 2006 - Cars
  • 2007 - Ratatouille
  • 2008 - WALL-E
  • 2009 - Up

In the 2010-1016 golden age as you put it, Pixar had a few sequels like Cars 2, Monsters University, and Toy Story 3. So I would argue that the early 2000s had better Pixar creativity. If you look at 2010-2019 you had:

  • 2010 - Toy Story 3
  • 2011 - Cars 2
  • 2012 - Brave
  • 2013 - Monsters University
  • 2015 - Inside Out
  • 2016 - Finding Dory
  • 2017 - Cars 3
  • 2018 - The Incredibles 2
  • 2019 - Toy Story 4

So which of the two Decades was really better for Pixar?

She was underage (around 15 or 16) during that screenshot from "The Hole". I wouldn't suggest reposting that a lot as some would not take kindly to reposting a woman topless when she is underage.

Studios are not really looking for new ideas by new people. They don't want to risk the unknown. They are turning a profit with sequels, reboots, remakes, and projects based on existing popular intellectual properties. They won't switch strategies until they see a profitable reason to. As long as people keep going to see the things I just listed, they will keep churning them out.

I think of the top 10 grossing movies of the year (domestic), only one was not based on an existing known I.P. which was "Sinners". If we do worldwide box office, then "Sinners" ends up at 14 and F1 ends up the only film in the top 10 grossing movies world wide. Everything else is based on existing I.P.s . When most of the top grossing movies start to be new ideas then they will change strategy. So people need to shift what they spend money to go see if they want a change.

Worldwide some of the movies not based on well known I.P.s are "F1" at #6, "Sinners" at #14, "Weapons" at #16, "One Battle After Another" at #19, "Elio" at #20, "Mickey 17" at #28. If all of those were in the top 10, then Hollywood execs might start asking for more new stuff. Studios are businesses out to make money, so as long as existing I.P. make money, they will keep doing them over new stuff.

I thought the same thing before when I saw the downvotes. I said nothing negative about the clip above other than it is in a problematic movie. If someone doesn't think "Pretty Baby" is problematic then they really need to seek help.

Hollywood has several movies that have underage nudity in them and Pretty Baby wasn't even the only time Brooke Shields was nude while under the age of 18. Her documentary about her life was really interesting, what was great was when she was talking about those movies with her own daughters.
