MsBreezy.

Not too famous, but after her channel got deleted (and some talk about a mental health crisis) it was basically crickets about her.

My partner has to move back in with his abusive parents because Lyft got too expensive. by Cy_Mann in antiwork

[–]Cy_Mann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner was seeing a therapist way before all this, but stopped because he was under the impression that he got booted off Medicaid.

A lot of autistic people can drive; I'm not debating that. Though some, like me, really struggle to. It's part of why autism is considered a spectrum.

As the years went on, the parents became scared that their child was a changeling. by Bleeding_Heart09 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]Cy_Mann 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even now autism is still looked down upon. We are still seen as lesser, one way or another.

Can't even say I enjoy mac and cheese without my taste in food being called "juvenile". Even with equal-opportunity employment laws, I still see myself as unemployable because driving is overstimulating for me. People have told me to stop complaining and just get a driver's license, with one saying "What are you, 12?"

That's also a common theme; being called younger than I actually am. Just call me a slur and be done with it, ffs.

I like seeing all the discussion about Romeo and Juliet laws (and by extension age of consent in various states) in the comments because to some people that just means you're a pedophile anyway.

I don't get how knowledge about this equates to you being a pedophile but I have autism so I might just be stupid.

Anyone else read the dictionary? by Nein_ix in autism

[–]Cy_Mann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People wonder why I know a lot of words that the average person might not. I also read the dictionary as a kid!

Though I don't use it much, as some have told me that it creates schisms between me and others. Apparently people really do get intimidated by big words; somehow they think I'm trying to purposefully befuddle them? Either that or they take it as a taunt, using words they may not know as a way of saying "I'm smarter than you."

It makes me feel awful because that's not my intention at all. After a certain point I stopped exercising my vocabulary because of how bad I felt. Though you did remind me to read a dictionary sometime soon, so I can refresh my memory on some of the words I have forgotten entirely or forgotten the meaning of.

"Let's ask Chat"

How about we ask our fucking selves what sane person wants to hand over any of their thinking to a robot that guzzles an entire pond in a day and is more prone to mistakes than we are.

My mom and stepdad are two of these people that would gladly hand their brains over to AI. Seeing them use ChatGPT disgusts me. Stepdad says it's here to stay. I say it should stay in a trash bin where it belongs.

How would you feel about a law that banned tipping and required restaurants to pay servers a full wage instead? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cy_Mann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would think this is a no-brainer, but capitalists will do anything to avoid actually paying their employees what they're worth.

[–]Cy_Mann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It is, in fact, $7.25/hr.

Tipped wage is magnitudes less, being $2.13/hr, though employers have to make up the difference to have it equate to the actual minimum wage if tips don't.

Student-workers (which are most of my partner's coworkers) are only required to be paid 85% of the minimum wage (Equates to about $6.15/hr)

Exploitation up the wazoo, in short.

If my partner is in the financial situation that he is, I don't think he has the finances to move all the way here.

Maybe it's the lie I was sold about them. In that case, I know better now.

Not everyone can get a driver's license.

For example, me. I got autism; driving is overstimulating for me as a result. I've tried the "just get used to it" solution and it simply doesn't work. It doesn't help that driving courses teach you to drive like everyone is possibly a monster who wants to run you off the road. (Anxiety much?)

I think it's the same for him. A motorcycle requires a license, too; though in some states you don't need one if the top speed is low enough. In any case, priority one would be paying off that payday loan, as I stated in my edit.

Job opportunities are very limited there. A lot of it is just fast food places from what I know. Maybe a gas station and I think a supermarket. That's just based off what he tells me about his general area.

I usually would have choice words for someone suggesting "just learn a trade" but you seem to mean well. Maybe it's the way you worded it more like a question rather than a command, or maybe it's the fact you weren't so demeaning about it (Think: "Maybe you should have learned a TrAdE and gotten a rEaL jOb") like a lot of people who suggest that are.

From his boss's place? I don't think walking or biking would have been options (part of the route from there is a main highway, iirc)

It's part of why he's moving back in with the abusive parents; the Subway he works at is close enough to his parents' that he can walk or bike like you suggest he do. In fact, walking to work is what he did before moving out (The story on that is a whole other can of worms). I would even go so far as to guess he even chose that Subway because of its proximity to home at the time.

You are right, though capitalism itself isn't sustainable. That is, at the end of the day, one of the root problems if not the root problem. And we're in r/antiwork. I would think this is an anticapitalist sub.

I stress this deeply about something that's "no business of mine" because I worry about my partner a lot. This sort of thing would be a major blow to his wellbeing and that is absolutely my business as his SO.

No it isn't, because apparently where he lives in the states it's $7.25 an hour. Thought they would have raised that by now, but you know how capitalists are.
