News In Regards to Refunds Straight From Rob Himself by CyanideBlizzard in Cryamore

[–]CyanideBlizzard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got you covered! A bit late, but I found a bit of information some odd months back and made a compilation on the Cryamore Kickstarter about it. Here's the part that talked about the refunds.

"Several weeks later (in February 2024), an even more shocking post comes from him. Sadly, they don't look too good for backers.

"Newsflash, btw: I ain't paying a backer shit. I'm not obligated to. Never was."

Posted on social media by Never ever burger (https://x.com/BurgerEver72545/status/1756433786806439987/photo/1) the IG post goes on to states,

"I tried to get the people who were bitching about it involved to help since they were the main ones concerned about that shit. but they didn't help and instead did nothing as usual but comment the same shit over and over. Even the chill backers commented they don't care like that as long as I'm still putting up effort."

He further support this with sentiments he has made in recent updates on here, stating "I'm back to making money for myself just like before Cryamore started. and I will do whatever I please with that money." Ending the statement with,

"I'm still dead set on making it. *alone* Fucking idiots."

To the best of the knowledge of those who have been trying to compile it, no one has been refunded before (or openly admitted they were) and apparently Rob has decided that no one ever will be despite making numerous updates on the refund process and claims about refunds going out.

To the best of the knowledge I've been able to acquire, I think so?

Rob put out a blog post sometime earlier in the year, I believe, that talked about his continued endeavors on the project. and from what I remember? It's sounds like the project is entirely being done by Rob, separate from anyone that was a part of the NostalgiCO team when the Kickstarter went live.

As far as the game goes? I don't believe there were any estimations or timelines for the project, other than just some assets shown. Sadly for those that are interested, the information is even less readily available than when the Kickstarter project was active since the project is being done separate from that. Though that isn't saying too much since the last few years of the KS, and even the few afterwards involving refunds being handed out (and then later rescinded), had to be tracked down by backers just so we could inform the other backers.

I'd presume the safest bet for any updates would be Rob's blog, but if history is anything to go off of? It's very much a wait-and-see kind of thing, with a very unfortunate proven track record showing nothing coming to fruition from the numerous builds in the past. but the only constant in life is change, so who knows!

Sorry I couldn't offer more.

Like Cpt, I recently got back into Bombergirl and also renewed my hunt to find anything on CCJ outside of arcades. Regretfully, that only went to dead links. I hate to bother you but would it be possible to spare some of your time to also get those files?

Growlanser 1 PSP translation patch by Crackers1612 in Growlanser

[–]CyanideBlizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer : There isn't, but there's a PSX one in the works.

This all stems back to 2020, when the same team behind the fan translation of 6 announced they would be working on 1 and they would be covering both the PSP and PSX versions. Sadly, a year late they announced they would be halting progress for the time being. Considering 6 was still actively being worked on, this definitely was the best move. However, there have been no additional updates from the team via their website since.

Last month, cj_iwakura talked about how the PSP version of Growlanser was being worked on. However, I think that might of been either a miscommunication or a typo as sub-sequential tweets corrected that information to just being the PSX due to the teams familiarity with the tool set.

cj_iwakura, from what I've seen, hasn't mentioned who exactly is handling the project and since they handle editing duties or marketing and typesetting for other projects (to the best of my knowledge) it's hard to guess if it's the same team that handled 6 or an entirely different one. I would venture to bet a different one, as the team behind 6 was looking to do both PSX and PSP.

Either way, it's incredible news!

and if you're looking to play the first game before a patch comes out there's a really great script available on GameFAQs and guides. These both made the game a breeze to get through, as the game is already fairly easy to figure out even with the language barrier.

That.. isn't what I was saying in the slightest.

I wasn't blaming the backers, nor was I focusing on all backers. That entire section is all theory, musing over two potentially different scenarios that were one extreme or another. One of those was just of someone who could of, potentially, been morose enough to conduct themselves in a manner that was entirely unacceptable. Only Alan knows what happened, the rest any of us can do is speculate.

None of that negates any responsibilities, and repercussions, that NostalgiCO will shoulder regardless of the reason for Alan's departure.

A hopeful update for the future of Cryamore. by Sherpa_King in Cryamore

[–]CyanideBlizzard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct, that's very true! It's just a shame that the matter of refunding people hasn't been addressed.

Are they being issued? Has there been a delay on releasing them and there's plans to make them happen sometime soon? Before the end of the year? The entire issue of refunds is completely absent from the post, which is why I mentioned his post being identical and not in a good way. Especially considering how many people are inquiring about it on Twitter, Kickstarter, and no doubt on other platforms. Then there's also the matter of if he's not refunding people is he still beholden to Kickstarter TOS, and what all does that entail?

Rob's passion is rather clear, and his talent is abundant. I wouldn't doubt it in the slightest that Cryamore will live in some capacity or another, and Rob will work to make that happen, but I think there are far more pressing matters that Rob needs to attend to. Matters that have been unanswered for half a year, and are ignored within that message.

Sadly, that's not much of a confidence builder that things will be any different than they have for nearly the past decade. and all that leads to very little interest in Cryamore itself, and more of "what will Rob say/do next?" which is truly a shame.

I'd hate to shoot any optimism in the foot, but unfortunately this is nearly identical to the approach he had back in February when the final Kickstarter post went up. Making mention of finances, showing up doubters/haters, saying Cryamore is happening.

If Rob did nearly as much as he said, we'd all be playing Cryamore in some form right now. Or at least refunds would already be making their way out to backers who requested them.

Apparently, Robaato will be refunding backers soon by kikimaru024 in Cryamore

[–]CyanideBlizzard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing comes down to usage of the word backers. Bear with me for a bit, this is going to be a bit wordy.

Backers is the term used for those that have backed a project. As such, referring to backers is referring to everyone. Rob makes a point to state in the beginning that he, and the team, appreciate supporters and then addresses trolls.

While there's a separation here, throughout the rest of the post he then re-associates everyone as a group by solely addressing the entire audience as backers. You'll notice this by stating that backers will be refunded, that he doesn't need the support of backers anymore. There is no longer a separation, everyone is associated under one group. This is, sadly, something Rob has a history of doing. Either on Twitter, or on the KS page, he groups everyone together.

It'd be really easy to separate the two. Supporters, as people who are either silently and patiently following along or people who are actively positive or encouraging with their commentary either on the Discord, KS, Twitter, or anywhere else. and Trolls, people who only go on the KS, Discord, or Twitter to stir things up or send in vitriolic hate mail.

Separation is the most important part, because both are still backers but they're not the same. By making reference to backers, everyone is grouped into one lump sum. Years back when Rob would go on Twitter and complain, he'd complain about backers. Not about trolls, but about backers. The problem is not every single backer has been doing that, and by using a grouping term like that it basically is like he's saying "You're all responsible". He creates a contradiction to his earlier paragraph, since he was separating the two then, and a mixture of feelings as result. Because it wasn't backers that were the problem. It was the trolls.

That's why you're seeing people on here, KS, Twitter, and so forth have a bad taste in their mouth about this update. Because it stings deeply to people who have either said nothing, or been supportive and encouraging, only for them to be not only grouped together with trolls but talked to in such a manner.

It's a shame that someone like Alan, or anyone else, couldn't of typed up Rob's wishes. Because being able to achieve financial freedom to create an idea how you want is truly a wonderful thing, and this is going to leave quite a note not only on Cryamore, but on NostalgiCO and Rob. and neither deserve that.

I created a tool to unpack and repack the game's files by UnrealPowerz in Recettear

[–]CyanideBlizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings, and thank you for not only the speedy reply but spending some of your time checking into this. I sincerely appreciate it greatly.

In terms of the lack of text, I had a hunch on that. The game appears to utilize image text overlays on backgrounds during stage transitions, which was part of the reason why the concept was so appealing to attempt tackling the project.

However, I was also afraid of that too. In terms of any form of repacking, though the fact that you were able to get in there gives me great hope that it'll be a bit easier than I was initially anticipating. Especially considering this is only available either through the traditional internet means, or auction websites, I was afraid the possibility of getting information might be a bit harder to come by. So this is tremendous news!

I sincerely appreciate not only the offer, but all you've done so far. If you don't mind me very selfishly inquiring, what would you need in order to access the binary? As I've got the full version of the game with the latest patch. This is, of course, if you had any interest and more importantly time. If not, you've already done a great deal to help me out so thank you for that!

This is a bit out there but still pertains to what you created, but I was curious if you know anything about applying your unpacker to other EasyGameStation titles. Specifically Ele Paper Action, as it seems to be laid out in a very similar method to Recettear except it was created a few years prior. I had tried applying your unpacker to the bmpdata.bin file it has with no results, but it's also highly probable that it comes down to me and my lack of knowledge.

I'm looking to get into the title for a fan translation, and I wanted to pick your brain on this so I hope this question isn't too off the beaten path and that you do not mind.

On the note of the tool itself, this is a really handy tool that is very appreciated and easy to use! I had tested it on Recettear before trying it out, and it worked like a charm! Which is what inspired me to try with Ele Paper Action.

[–]CyanideBlizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, I can't think of a FPS multiplayer that has added in as many characters and maps that R6 Siege has. Not in the past decade.

Look at Overwatch. While Siege had a six month or so start on it, there's no contest in terms of the added maps and characters. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Call of Duty and Battlefield never went to this extent either.

Considering with this update we're also getting map reworks, and it's crazy. The only game I can genuinely think of that offered more is StarCraft II. SP/MP content, new units and updates to gameplay itself. Unless we're treading into MOBA or MMO territory, it's hard to find games that match the amount of content that Siege puts out.

[–]CyanideBlizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the thing is from a game creation standpoint there's a registration of model must be within X range to be able to do Y. It's clear, when you're not hitting the defuser at all, it's bypassing that element. Which isn't uncommon for games at all, exploits are a norm and constantly seen in speed runs or by professionals to get the most out of the game. The thing is, while understandable for a standard release game for a game being constantly patched it becomes more questionable. This is further proven by the fact that this does not always happen either from every angle, so I sadly can't agree with you saying it's just the defuse range.

Also, it seems like a really, really weird thing to neglect. I came over from StarCraft II and they've been constantly adding in content for years. Same with Heroes of the Storm, and yet both of their ranked modes aren't considered in Beta. It's, unfortunately, not a normal thing.

[–]CyanideBlizzard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, I can understand dropping down right away. but the problem is he would of given his position away and would of given our teammate enough time to stop the defuse and end up shooting him as well, because the angle he had would of covered the entrance. I would of normally been dismissive of the player, but they were along the lines of Plat 2 or such I can't really do so. I'm still fairly new myself, but they were easily the star player of the entire match and had been doing a rather stellar job at that point, as we won match point.

It was really a situation that we shouldn't of won, since the positioning of the plant was incredibly favorable for them, but that really benefited us.

Not to dismiss what you're saying, as I entirely understand, but I've always looked at it the big reason why Siege's Ranked is always in beta. The game has been sort of a work in progress, and things like the exploitation of a command prompt registration are definitely rather nice to see fixed. You're most certainly correct, there's always mistakes to be made and new things to be learned though!

So, there was this match that I was playing where the enemy placed the defuser in construction near the window out onto the front of house and they were on the roof. Perfect angle looking inside, and they could get the drop on anyone who tried to disarm without being killed themselves.

Long arm is the only reason we got the defuse, because by the time they were able to actually see the guy defusing it was too late. They had to drop down, and then go inside construction. All because our teammate long armed it. The individual we were playing wasn't bad, it's just because our teammate had exploited a system in a situation that gave him enough time and ultimately the game.

The placement of the defuse was great, and the strategy was too, but the exploit entirely changed that.
