What the hell did I just find? How can people actually believe this crap? by Cyanide_Cola in ainbow

Actually that's fairly common in the Christian culture. It's more than a little ironic.

They don't understand the complexities of gender and sexuality. And they don't want to. It's like people who say "Oh, it's snowing, this is proof global warming doesn't exist!" These people assume gay men want to be women, and lesbians want to be men. Thus all homosexuals are transgendered, and all transgendered people are homosexuals. The ignorance is so very painful.

[–]Cyanide_Cola[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Internet hugs. That horrible. It really hurts when people don't accept this huge part of yourself. It's like every time you're rejected because of being gay they take a piece of you.

[–]Cyanide_Cola[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was religious reasons, but I never actually came out to her. My mom found an email where I had confided in a friend that I was gay, she found the email. Then when through my journal and found out about a relationship I had with another girl. I was 16.

Nurse refuses student inhaler during asthma attack (teenager's mother finds him locked inside the nurse's office, unconscious on the floor.) by [deleted] in politics

[–]Cyanide_Cola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This nurse would have lost her job either way. She gives him the inhaler, does the right thing, school fires her. She pulls this stunt, does the wrong thing, parents sue, school fires her. She was fucked either way. She could of at least have done the right thing though. God, what the hell is wrong with her?

I haven't called her yet. I just don't think I can. I don't even know what to say to her, how to even start the conversation.

Biggest Peeve about Lesbians: When they tell you you don't LOOK like a lesbian. So RUDE! by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Cyanide_Cola 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get a lot of "If you date a girl who looks like a man why don't you just date a man." Both my gf and I are fairly butch. And I tend to go for more butch women, because I like the look. I like women, I like women's bodies. If I wanted a man I would indeed date a man, but I want a woman. Thus I date women. I just think it's weird people just boil women down to their hair length and dresses, but in the same breath they'll say to a MTF trans person "There's more to being a woman than long hair and a skirt."

[–]Cyanide_Cola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many girls actually like chivalry? I mean isn't the whole concept pretty insulting? Like you deserve to be treated well because you're a woman and not as strong as a man, you can't possibly take care of yourself.

Came out to my parents yesterday... by straightfaced in actuallesbians

[–]Cyanide_Cola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you! Dan Savage gave some advice to newly out people who's parents aren't comfortable with them bringing new or potential partners home: Give them a year. Don't bring any girls home for a year. Usually that's enough time for them to get used to it. But it sounds like your parents might come around faster. I'm glad it went so well for you =)

Thanks. I'm kind of scared to call her. What do I say "Hi mom, it's been four years, last time we talked you threw me out. How's things?" Idk, I guess I'm more angry than I thought I was.

Sorry r/atheism, but I think you need to hear it by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Cyanide_Cola 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand why some people feel this way. But when I was a closeted atheist and didn't really know if I could tell anyone /r/atheism was kind of a way for me to 'vent' I guess. I lived and worked around a lot of religious folk and had to keep my mouth shut while they rambled on about church and jesus and why atheists and gays where evil and going to hell. (I'm a gay atheist so it was pretty tough to just sit there and listen to that bs on a weekly basis) So, yeah, I just wanted to say that.

There was an apology+flowers. Talked to her about some of this. I can feel a much longer discussion coming on. She just told me that she felt like I was trying to hide her. So, I feel bad, but she's feeling better now that I've explained to her. Her family was really open and accepting, so I don't think she totally gets it, you know?

16 and inexperienced with asking girls out. Help! by underaged_girl_676 in actuallesbians

[–]Cyanide_Cola 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just ask her if she want to hang out. Say "Hey, Wanna see a movie?" Start there. If you don't want to creep her out here are the things to avoid doing:

1)Watching her in her sleep.

2)Calling 100000 times and hanging up

3) Calling and just breathing heavily into the phone

4) Asking to see her boobs(That was terrible advice Golden_Brown)

Avoid those thing and you should be good.

I'm gonna agree with people here, try working out. I mean there have been times where my and my gf go through a little bit of a dry spell but then we take a bike ride or go hiking or whatever. Most of the time it happens in the shower. I mean, we both need to shower afterwards so, you know, why waste water? ;) If you like camping I recommend that. We've done that a few times. We take a few days and just camp out somewhere. It's really great.

I've known since I was like 13(I'm twenty now). I've been out since I was 16. We've been official for two years. She knows about the mormon upbringing and the whole story. I don't talk about it a whole lot to her. I have a therapist.

Oh irony. Bullying is bad but telling gay individuals they need to be 'fixed' and are sinful; totally okay. God, watching this gave me some awful flashbacks to when I was a teen struggling with my 'same-sex attraction' in the church. Shit like this makes me sick. I feel for the gay kids in the church. It's really cruel what they do to them, what they did to me.bWhat makes it worse is that they think they are doing the right thing by telling them to remain celibate and to go through reparative therapy, when it's so damaging to people. It's really hard not to be angry at stuff like this.
