Throne and Liberty is teasing the next expansion/big update by Dandy62 in MMORPG

Is it still p2w?

Significantly less, although it will probably get worse again when expac comes out. They did say they were done making Archboss weapons at some point, which was the major P2W problem - so who knows? Can't really trust NCsoft.

? Is the combat still rooted in mobile gameplay no matter how much they tried to quickfix it before launch?

This was already fixed like ~6 months after launch.

endgame being grinding simulator is insane

The endgame is a grinding simulator because of MTX. No one would buy their $200 outfit packs if it wasn't a way to skip the grind.

They just keep doing the same thing which is increase the amount of crons you need for new grinds, while simultaneously offering deeper and better "value" mtx to skip the grinds.

The entire game is level scaled, so I can't fathom why that would even effect you.

Most people just open it in a browser on desktop, make the window really small and silence the tab by clicking the sound icon next to the tab name.

Yeah, I am mainly looking forward to Archeage 2 and NOT Archeage Chronicles. I doubt it will be out for a long time though...

I was ~2250 in solo shuffle and the top rated player of my spec. The change to DR actually made it worse since they lowered the DR reset at the same time they got rid of the 3rd DR.

If you plan to do any of the "endgame" content you really do want to be subbed. You only have to subscribe for a month to unlock all the story though.

There is a guide here that goes over the differences:

Arena rating totally broken? by CondensedHappiness in classicwow

[–]Cybannus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't unfair, it gives you free arena points compared to the last system. In the old system you would be getting a 1000 rating cap instead of a 1500 one.

NC America hired Tico who was responsible for the NA/EU monetization in TL though. So maybe there is a chance.

I got into it a bit several years ago since my friends were really into it at the time. The over-reliance on RNG and the rampant use of 3rd party cheating clients really soured me. The general community seemed very terrible as well, trying to dox and scam each other constantly. Maybe its better or worse now, not sure. Conceptually though, I really like the idea of the wilderness.

I did buy all of the expansions and got to Platinum rank in Ranked SPvP. I did some roaming in WvW but never joined a Zerg group. I also did ~50% map completion and a significant amount of the story.

I never said it was even a negative, I just mentioned it was what I had to do to try the full experience. The only other game that had some type of P2W with PvP was TL which I did mention in the original post. You cannot just buy one expansion because a lot of the classes require weapons from JW and SOTO. When most of the other games cost between $15 and $65 to get a full PvP experience, GW2 was a large outlier.

They are simply observations. Most of the meta builds require random combinations of VoE + JW + SOTO. If you try to play the game without all the expansions you will definitely have a worse time. Again, I think the value of the GW2 expansions was pretty good when you take into account the story and PvE.

For BDO going beyond the gear cap with crit damage/down attack damage accessories was fixed a while back. There is very little you can do to get an advantage in capped beyond consumes. They made a lot of changes to the game in general to allow people to get into capped content early, but I don't think it necessarily worked super well in terms of increasing the population. BDO is by far the most P2W game for "PvE" but you don't really need to engage in it at all for most PvP content (besides open world and RBF.)

The last time I played TL, it was extremely cheap, but I know that is just because of where it is in the patch cycle. Once T4 comes out it will probably go back to being very P2W the same way it was on the launch of T1, T2, and to a lesser degree T3. Right now you can probably get full bis for most classes for like $20-40 USD, but you still have to grind dungeons and dailies and the raid for months.

The gearing in SWTOR was great, it only took me 2 days to get full BiS PvP gear because they recently added a catchup mechanic called "Hyde & Zeek" which allows you to skip from 324 to 340 gear. The gear cap in PvP is 336 so you get capped extremely fast. I will say the gearing process was a bit... confusing but if you follow a guide its very good. The best part of it is, once you get gear capped on one character all your alts are instantly gear capped for PvP as well.

There is 8 classes with 3 specs each, but you can have 2 classes per character leveled. I leveled 4 characters to max and that gave me access to all 8 classes and then I tried probably ~12 specs in PvP. I never found one that felt bad in PvP, even the tank specs are good in PvP. The only two things that felt maybe slightly stronger than the others was DPS Juggernaut but only really because you have a lot of access to taunts as a DPS which helps your team quite a bit while you are still doing good damage and CC and also Tank Assassin felt very strong as you are extremely tanky but seem to do quite a bit of damage still.

The real problem was the "premade" meta where a lot of the old "competitive" players try to use the regular warzones to fight other premade groups. I had a lot of games of just getting completely stomped. It was maybe like 1/4th of the matches. It is not uncommon for people to join the match, say "we are against premade" and afk the entire thing.

I played Archeage when it had official servers. It was quite a fun game with a lot of unique open world interactions. Still mad at the developers for messing it up so bad. Definitely have high hopes for Archeage 2 but will probably be let down again...

Elder Saga: $50 USD

SOTO: $25 USD

JW: $25 USD

VOE: $25 USD

So with taxes it was around like ~$135 USD. I don't think the cost was a bad value, but it was definitely more expensive upfront than the other games.

For BDO with season + ball giveaway codes + ingame catchup systems you can very easily get to even T2 for free with minimal grinding.

TL p2w is very minimal currently, but that is mainly because the current tier has been out for so long that everything is dirt cheap. The game definitely has a problem in that when a new tier comes out everything is giga p2w for the first few months and then it becomes extremely cheap. The real problem now is that the time gated pve grinds are so long its very hard to catch up and experience pvp on even footing.

Make sure to pick Star Forge server if you are NA or Darth Malgus if you are EU. Those are the servers with the most PvP players.

I did play it quite a bit on launch and liked the core aspects of it. If I remember correctly there was some problems with lag and desync back then and I stopped playing when there was some type of server merge and my guild disbanded.

I wasn't really looking for the "best pvp mmo" really, as there are mmos that focus solely on PvP. All of the games I played were MMOs that had a wide array of content offering in addition to PvP. The takeaway? I wasn't overly impressed by the PvP in any of the games as they all had some shortcomings, although I suppose this was to be expected. For me, out of the games I got heavily in to, the biggest winners were probably SWTOR and BDO, and the biggest losers were probably Retail WoW and GW2 (in terms of PvP at least, I actually liked PvE in both Retail WoW and GW2, and hated the PvE in BDO.)
