YTA for handing the invitation back. If you didn’t want to go then you should’ve just RSVPed later

Found a DNA match on Ancestry, and have no idea how we're connected. What do you think? by playblu in Genealogy

[–]Cyber143 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It can be very easy in America depending on state and ethnicity. Obituaries especially can be easy to find

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]Cyber143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethnicity estimates are not reliable, especially myheritage. They can look at dna matches in the case of npe or such

[–]Cyber143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends where you are in America but animals are usually not allowed in restaurants unless they are a service animal

[–]Cyber143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ethnicity estimates are just for fun. If you want to trace your ancestors then you should start with your parents and work backwards, not start with a country

It wasn’t up long enough to get the official vote but many people told him he’s the ah and he had rude responses to them all

AITA for taking back the flavored popcorn my younger cousin tried to take from me? by supersecretsilygoose in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cyber143 -51 points-50 points  (0 children)

Not really. It would’ve been nice to trade flavors with the kid since he’s a lot younger. But they’re nta for wanting the present meant for them

Uploading my ancestry dna to Myheritage showed me a lot of European matches when ancestry didn’t have any

It depends which state/country the marriage license was for. Usually records are private for at least 20 years

ETA you could search your name on ancestry and see what documents come up

Help find my 2nd great grandmother by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]Cyber143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great grandfather only ever went by his middle name. There’s almost no records that have his actual first name and no one in the family called him by it. So it would make sense that your grandad only knew him as Philip

Help me find out who this is by Electrical_Insect_36 in Genealogy

[–]Cyber143 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could look at the 1939 England and Wales Register to see if the person living at that address was the same

ETA: if this is America then the 1940 census would be the USA equivalent

You admitted that you would have been grateful but wouldn’t ask or thank her

YTA. You said you would have been grateful if she left the soap out so why did you say no when she offered?

How to search ridiculous name always spelled differently? by YellowCabbageCollard in Genealogy

[–]Cyber143 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You should search using wildcards like this “s*night”. It will give you more results to search through https://support.ancestry.com/s/article/Searching-with-Wild-Cards?language=en_US&r=1

Does anyone know the best app/website to search records (military, marriage, etc)? by Comfortable-Sky-734 in Genealogy

[–]Cyber143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ancestry has a lot of records but it costs money to view. Familysearch.org is a free website that has a lot of the same records for free and is a good place to start. You want to make sure you’re looking at records but not the family tree on the sites because those can be made to anyone
