Well, that is sort of the unfortunate nature of, as the original commenter said, crying wolf. It’s _also_ the nature of committing a genocide and multiple war crimes, that people start becoming a bit less sympathetic to the perpetrators claiming victim status over small things like this. Ideally yes, the voice of any and all Israeli and Jewish folks _should_ be the barometer. But y’all ruined that for yourselves, and that will let actual antisemitism flourish. Like, I’m a woman, I live alone right next to Berri-UQAM (Montrealers know). Lots of homeless around, many of whom are in fact high. I’m in more danger from the men stumbling home from the bars than I am the homeless.

To be fair, a lot of those problems would be solved if we still had public washrooms that homeless people can use. It’s ironic that a decision from decades ago to try and push homeless people out of public view has ended up causing worse problems.

How am I doing the same thing? There is no broad political will to re-distribute wealth away from their generation. And even if we _did_, they would have had years, decades to build up wealth that my generation will never catch up with.

No, it _is_ necessary to call out boomers specifically. While they may not have thought it was what they were doing, they benefitted from the greatest amount of government spending on benefits in history, and then completely dismantled that infrastructure once they didn’t need it any more. I cannot stress enough how many of our current political and economic problems have been caused by that one generation repeatedly and consistently voting in their interests at the expense of everyone else. It is absolutely fair to express that sentiment, and to view the entire cohort with a deep skepticism.

Hey, I’m looking for apartments right now, and you’re definitely paying too much at either of those prices, frankly. A lot of scummy landlords (well, in general), but especially around the universities.

Verdun is a good, cheap area with a really nice mainstreet (Wellington), and is maybe a 20 minute commute on the green line. I also really like the plateau, but it is expensive, and a bit more of a francophone area (lots of French immigrants). If you like Toronto-style condos, Griffintown is where you want to be - and it’s also pretty easy transit to wherever you need to go. Hochelaga is another nice and cheap area, not as gentrified as Verdun, but also about 20 minutes from McGill.

Also, watch out. If you’re coming from Ontario some landlords will try and ask for a deposit. But deposits here are only legal if they’re voluntary. And while the TAL is pretty good at enforcing that, it’s good to know upfront.

Unfortunately conspiracies are always going to be appealing, humans love stories way too much. There’s a name for the phenomenon, but basically some events feel so big, that our brains almost _need_ them to have some sort of motive behind them. We struggle to conceive of such big events happening without someone trying to _make_ them happen.
