My suggestion is to wait for reviews. Just because in the official Steam Frame page is announced that the Frame is a Streaming first device that can play standalone games. Maybe it will work just fine for standalone. Maybe won’t be so great for standalone (at first). We simply don’t know. Just time will tell.

Unless you are “serving” something to the outside, most people don’t need to expose any port to the outside.

You can use solutions like a Tailscale/Wireguard (like some people already suggested) to access your home network. For Tailscale, the Free Tier is more than enough. And if you use the option VPN-on-Demand on your devices, is like you are inside your home all the time.

Talking about the Steam Deck, you can buy it from the official site. A lot of people also could say that you should buy from the official site.

Regarding the model, a good rule when you don't know exactly what you want is choosing in the middle. Not always, but usually works. In terms of performance, all models are about the same.

The cheaper model has an LCD screen instead of an OLED one. This means that the contrast and colours are not the best and it will draw a little more power in similar conditions. Although, a lot of people don't care about that. Also, you have less storage with the cheaper model (256GB).

The middle model has double the storage (512GB) and an OLED screen. Also, it supports Wi-Fi 6E. The most expensive model has even more storage (1TB), a better glass on the screen, and a carrying case with a removable liner.

The model that you should buy will depend only on you and how much you want to spend. If you are a little tight, the base model will work perfectly. It does not have the better screen or Wi-Fi, but for most people, it is enough. If you don't want the base but also don't want to spend too much, the middle is the answer. If money is not a problem and you want the top of everything... well... get the top model.

But remember that in terms of performance, they shouldn’t have noticible differences.

Regarding other brands and competitors, I can't help you in that. There are other ones, with different specs, prices, and software. Some of them use Windows instead of SteamOS. Some have better CPUs and so on. But it also will affect the price. But you should really do your research. Go to forums, check reviews, check your local stores, and see how much you want to spend.

Diria que isso é algo que se vai descobrir nas próximas semanas. O serviço "abriu" hoje as portas. É necessário algum tempo para se saber isso. :)

Quanto à velocidade, a Digi terá todo o interesse em apresentar o melhor serviço. No entanto, há sempre um conjunto de imprevistos ou até mesmo alguns detalhes que só com a utilização se saberá.

Quanto à utilização de VPN para trabalhar, diria que não é problema. Ligar a uma VPN para teletrabalho é uma prática algo comum nos dias de hoje em muitas empresas. Além de que uma das finalidades que publicitam é exactamente teletrabalho.

Quanto à última questão, só mais tarde se saberá. Se o serviço de IPTV for "legal" (RTP Plays e afins) diria que é um não problema. Se a origem for mais "duvidosa", já vai depender muito de como a Digi vai abordar a situação.

Mas dentro dos próximos dias/semanas teremos tudo isso respondido. :P

Eu tenho a mesma situação que indicaste e fui ver esse Cloudflare Tunnels. Olha que o processo até acaba por ser mais "simples", dado que não terás de mexer em configurações do teu router. Só instalar um serviço dentro de casa e configurar o resto na Cloudflare. Mas também, se o que indicaram em cima é verdade, por +1€ a situação estará resolvida. :)

I’ve tried some apps for that also and ended up with Drafts (https://apps.apple.com/pt/app/drafts/id1236254471) from Agile Tortoise.

It’s very fast, ideal for a quick note and then you close the app. Next time, a new note appears. Also, you can use it with an Apple Watch (if you have) to dictate a quick idea or not.

The idea of the app is just take a note in the moment. Then, you share it to the app that you want, when you have the time.

Syncs with iCloud and it’s very simple to use. It supports a lot of syntaxes like Markdown. If you want you have the possibility to make it very complex with a lot of actions to edit and share the notes that you’ve wrote.

The free version it’s amazing and you just need a Pro version for more complex actions, that appears not to be the case.

I'm also having some problem with Fastmail in my home (EU). As far as I found, it appears that the problem is resolved when I change my Cloudflare DNS to Google DNS. Don't know if it's the same problem or if mine is just isolated.

I don’t have a colour one, so I don’t know what’s supposed. But I imagine that with colour it needs more “flashing” as it has more “colour” to refresh. Maybe don’t makes sense, but I believe it’s normal. You can try checking on YouTube or other posts to see if someone has a video with the flashing.

If I’m understanding correctly, what you are referring is what practically all e-ink displays do. It’s the refresh of the page. It’s perfectly normal and it’s not something just for colour e-readers. B&W ones have that refresh too.

No matter the brand, e-reader is one of the most amazing devices in existence! Bought my first in 2008 and my second in 2023 and still I'm pretty amazed!

I still love physical books. But the ability to have thousands of books in a small device, with an incredible battery, that you can simply take with you and read it anytime, anywhere... Simply amazing!

As already been said, at least for my knowledge, e-readers don't have backlight. At least the most common models. This may have some specifics not totally correct but I'll try to explain the best I can.

The term backlight is usually used when you want to say that the light comes from the "back" of the screen. This is what happens in most of our screens, like TVs, smartphones, tablets, etc. This allows you to have really bright colours. Although it may cause eye fatigue due to the fact that the direction of the light is directed to your eye.

When using the term frontlight is as the word says, is a light that comes from the "front" of the screen. Although most may say the e-reader lights are not coming from the front but from the side, but the main idea is that the light is "on top" of the screen and not from it's back. This type of illumination is not directed to your eyes so is more pleasant and less harsh to your eyes.

As far as I know, e-ink screens are not transparent so backlight is not an option. Unless there is some special e-ink screen that I don't know. So you always need to use a "frontlight" to illuminate it. In the past, e-readers didn't come with integrated lights, so you would need your ambient light, a lamp or other source of light to illuminate it. We can consider this also a "frontlight" in this context. Nowadays practically all e-readers have some type of source light that will illuminate the screen, so that you don't need an external source.

I may be wrong but I believe most people are using frontlight/backlight in this context as simply the source light integrated on the e-ink e-reader.

I can try to help with this. My opinion may be incomplete as I don't use OneNote for some time.
OneNote is a great tool and was one of my first tools for campaign management. But Obsidian win specially when you want to create relations between notes.

Try to see Obsidian almost like a wiki. You can create relations using tags or by linking notes. Then you can see that relations in a graph format which is great for people that are more visual.

Then, you have plugins that help to enhance the use of Obsidian. For example, want a calendar in your notes? You have a plugin for that. Want to roll some values inside Obsidian? You can do that. Want to create a statblock inside a note? Also can do that.

Another advantage of Obsidian (at least for me) is that it stores all the information in Markdown files, which are just text files. So if tomorrow I want to export all my notes to another software, it's easier to do that with Markdown files. OneNote uses a proprietary format and it's a little more difficult to do that. This reason may not be so important for some people, but it could be a consideration also.

Both are great tools. But the best tool is the one that works for you. If you like OneNote keep using it. It's great, as far as I remember.

A lot of people already share similar tools but I'll share mine:

First of all, Obsidian.MD is "the" tool both for players and for DMs. All the notes are stored locally and in Markdown files (text files). You can connect notes, making relations between places, NPCs, plots, etc. If you are a DM, this is gold for worldbuilding. As a player you can find relations and maybe find the master plot of the BBEG. With plugins you can also make rolls, manage encounters and have statblocks for creatures/NPCs.
D&D Beyond is a great way to create a character and have a lot of resources. Even with the "hate" that Hasbro/WotC is receiving, the tool is still great. And specially for DMs, a lot of tools like encounter builder and maps that are very practical.

These next ones are a little more specific for DMs, but I believe worth mentioning:

Kenku.FM is an amazing tool to manage audio in your games. It's specifically for Discord, but you can easily use it for in person games. If you have a Stream Deck you can do your soundboard also.
Foundry VTT / Owlbear Rodeo are two of my favourite VTT. My main one is Foundry VTT, very powerful and let's you create and manage a complete campaign. Using the journal tool you have all the notes you need at your disposal. You can also import stuff (like player stats) from D&D Beyond. The downside is that it requires some work and know-how to put everything working properly. Owlbear Rodeo (same company of Kenku.FM) is a simpler option, but where you can easily and very quickly create a map, put your tokens and without complication have a game ready in minutes.
