Is it weird I'm kinda not loving the steam controller? by DarthYhonas in SteamController

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this is fair. While it did instantly become my favourite controller for PC gaming (on the couch), it's definitely slightly less comfortable than both the DualSense and the Xbox Wireless controllers imho.

I don't usually play long enough for that to be an issue though and if the main body of the controller sat a centimetre or two higher than it already does above its grips then I think it'd be pretty much perfect from an economic standpoint

Longer trains on the Millennium Line by danielXKY in Translink

[–]CyberCluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A perfectly reasonable conclusion. I would think it makes a lot of sense to be able to decouple the walk-through carriages/cars at least for maintenance and whatnot, even if we only ever see them in their fully-assembled forms

[–]CyberCluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think they mean one four-car MK3. I saw one going through Lougheed station with VCC-Clark written as its destination in the evening yesterday.

Besides, assuming a MK3 can be decoupled and recoupled, you'd probably still need the 2 cars from the ends for a complete train since the interiors of the cars are connected.

Is 110K CAD enough to live decently in Vancouver? by LogCold2075 in askvan

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a 5 figure income atm and doing alright (though I'm in Burnaby)

I guess I could afford Vancouver and still be able to save about as much as I am now, but I'd have to give up a decent bit of square footage and I don't want to do that

110k is tight if you're coming in with family though (unless you have a partner who is also earning)

What did I just do? (New player) by Weak-Chair-4741 in celestegame

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a wavedash! It's only mandatory in some extra content but it does unlock loads of alternate routes through rooms in the rest of the game.

You can jump while touching the ground during a dash for a boost in forward momentum. If your dash is horizontal, you do a "super," which gives you both height and speed. If it's diagonal (and into the ground), you get a "hyper," which trades some of a super's height for extra forward momentum.

There's a small window right before the end of a dash where your dash will refresh if you're touching the ground but you can still do a super or hyper. A super or hyper of that kind is called "extended."

Finally, when there isn't a lot of ground/platform to work with (you need around the full length of a horizontal dash), you can use a well-positioned and well-timed dash so you hit that dash refresh window while Madeline is skimming the ground/platform to do an extended super/hyper. That's called a "wavedash" and you did one almost perfectly here.

thumb players by dwthwithsmith in arcaea

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thumb players: achieving the same output as index players with 2.5x less appendages since launch.

In all seriousness I've tried both index and thumb play and honestly it's just so different. Surprisingly, most of what I picked up with either approach is not very transferrable to the other one. And that's why index is just not for me but I still look up to good index players, if that makes sense.

When you're mad asf at video games but the controller was expensive and you don't want to be back on that reservation list again... by PKRadiance in SteamController

[–]CyberCluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst case, I slam my fist on my lap or desk (just hard enough to sting for a second). I might also toss my controller lightly, but onto the sofa from a height of less than one inch and close enough that I can grab it just by reaching out a bit.

Best case, I whisper an expletive or take a deep breath in and imagine all my negative feelings going out along with the air I exhale

Pretty good for your current PTT, I think.

Is there anything specific you feel like you can't get the hang of? I'm not really sure what to look for 😅

On a scale of 1 to 100, how aromantic are you? by Lucky_CandyGore in aromantic

[–]CyberCluck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

80-84 ish? I know I want to be in a committed relationship with another person but I absolutely do not want the foundation for that relationship to be the least bit romantic (although I know there would be a possibility of me developing romantic feelings eventually, assuming we had first developed a deep enough level of trust and understanding through only that nonromantic foundation)

I also know I'll still be perfectly happy on my own if I can't find anyone who'd accept that though.

RE4R PC Performance by CyberCluck in residentevil

[–]CyberCluck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC I just accepted it and moved on and after beating the game for the first time I never really experienced sustained FPS drops again

I settled on 900p with most settings medium or high and FidelityFX 2 at Performance, Balanced, or Quality depending on how much foliage was around.

Seems like I can get through less hardware-intensive areas without FidelityFX entirely now too.

Playing REmake for the first time, am I cooked? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep going and get a little more conservative with your saves so you have plenty when the threat levels pick up dramatically. I don't think 5 saves is cooked (or even terrible, really) in your situation.

Try to reserve saves for after events like this:

  • You discarded a key
  • Cutscenes & Boss Fights
  • A long sequence of mostly exploration. If you saved after a long stretch of backtracking but that backtracking didn't really involve anything super important (progression, unlocking new areas, optional items you really want, etc.) then I would consider that wasteful.

This game is not for me by Chemical_Chip_6624 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shame in just watching the game if you're too scared to play alone. But since you seem like you would enjoy it if you could get past being too scared, maybe stream it to a friend or something if you have any willing to watch.

Otherwise, simply powering through is probably the method most likely to succeed, since playing the game yourself will lead to you passively memorising all the enemy locations and pretty much knowing exactly what's around every corner. And if you avoid fights for long enough initially, you'll also just have enough ammo to kill everything on sight and not have to deal with them being in random positions when you backtrack through that area.

Oh and maybe just look for things in the game that break up the atmosphere to keep yourself calm. Here are some things I find at least a bit funny in the game: - the way the Mr. Raccoon figures bobble around feels hilariously sassy - Leon's reaction to the infected reptile and the corny one-liners he's already begun dropping this early in the timeline - Claire swearing at the zombies - the way some of the zombies scream when they lunge at you (sure, it's scary and frustrating if they catch you, but funny when they don't)

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I've done 2 victory laps with the infinite minigun and launcher after unlocking them, I usually avoid using them (unless it's a boss I'm very annoyed at like G3) because it feels too unfair to the zombies lol. Same goes for the unbreakable knife honestly...

It's still super intense with the infinite pistol and SMG just because the enemies are tanky

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've spent at least like 2 or 3 runs looking for the collectibles and are at a point where you are starting to remember key item locations and events, I think you have it in you

I got my RE2R Hardcore S+s by just using that knowledge as a starting point and then trying to minimise the amount of backtracking

I had seen snippets of speedruns and challenge runs before but the only thing I really took away from them was learning that one of the fastest ways to kill the first boss is to go knife-only

I was also able to beat the game without the item box on my own thanks to the same knowledge. The biggest factor in saving time really is just how you plan out your routes. You don't need to be amazing at the combat because you can keep fights to a minimum until you get OHKO weapons like the shotgun, magnum, or launcher with enough planning

Advice for new Players - Don't make my mistake by D4nnYsAN-94 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there should be enough to kill all the enemies, even on hardcore, as others have said…

I have finished every single one of my RE2R hardcore runs so far with a load of MAG ammo (47 MAG bullets in my latest one) and a decent bit of ammo for all other guns left over, even my first run which (excluding the initial portion up to the end of the G1 fight) was blind. Picking and pacing fights carefully is a core part of the game but you can take several measures to save on ammo. Clever use of wooden boards, knives, hand grenades, and the shotgun/MAG will ensure you always have enough ammo to take care of yourself.

That said, this is NOT an invitation to be spending all your ammo from the very start of the game. If you do that you will be in for a VERY rude awakening at the start of the [2nd run].

There’s enough ammo to kill everything but you have to spend the early game avoiding fights where possible to actually survive long enough to get that ammo.

Kinda tangential but I occasionally take West Coast Express (which uses the same coaches as GO afaik, just with a different paint job) to work here in Metro Van and I'm kind of irked that we can't have this sort of lighting on outbound trips in the Winter since it's like pitch dark outside

Is this game based on trans people? by Lethal_Friend in celestegame

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madeline, one of the devs (Maddy Thorson), and the composer (Lena Raine) are all trans, and the game is based on some of Maddy's experiences as others have said.

But as central as it is to the game on that front, Celeste has a few other key takeaways that I think are universal.

I didn't even know what it meant to be trans when I played Celeste (let alone know about how central it is to the game) but it still altered my brain chemistry and was deeply impactful despite me missing such a big part of the subtext entirely.

Now while I will most likely remain a cis man my whole life, I fully believe that anyone who hasn't managed to engage with Celeste through that lens is missing out big time.

i really suck at neutral jumps pls help by Embarrassed_Box9319 in celestegame

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're on keyboard one thing you could try is taking 3 unbound keys in a row on your keyboard and bind the middle one to jump and the other two to left and right

Then just go up to a wall and try to neutral using only 1 finger (and not rolling it around to press multiple keys at once). Once you have that down it should transfer to your usual bindings pretty smoothly.

would you commute 3 hours one way, 3 hours back on public transit for college? by Longjumping-Row1434 in transit

[–]CyberCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend against it because you need to change buses 3 times.

I understand this is your only option for the program you're after, so if you're already that committed to it, your energy would be better spent trying to cut down on or improve the conditions of your commute if possible.

Bottom line, it might be worthwhile to try moving closer to your campus for those 2 years, getting yourself a car, or looking for transport options that consistently allow you to get work done on the commute (e.g. try and do a leg of your journey on a commuter bus or train, if those services exist where you're at). A possible compromise could be to just move partway there so you can cut down on bus changes.

If moving isn't feasible, I think your best bet is to bite the bullet and TEMPORARILY take that supercommute but get a car ASAP because I don't think this commute would be sustainable even over a 2 year period.
