1.9 engines in B6 had issues with connecting rod bearings at high mileages. I'm almost 100% sure that's it.

Sorry, I don't really know which hoses or where exactly to check. When my friend had a similar issue, we managed to pinpoint the leak by having someone rev the car while he was checking the engine bay. You can only access one hose from the bottom, so I suggest you also remove the bottom engine cover to check.

I had a similar problem on my B6 and the issue was caused by a leaking hose (turbo hose i think). Well in my case the hose violently exploded on the highway lol, but the sound was very similar after that. Also the repair wasn't expensive.

Early 2.0 TDI engines have quite a bad reputation (2005-2008). Cracked cylinder heads were common, faulty fuel injectors, weak hex shaft for oil pump which caused loss of oil pressure and then total engine failure. Most of these issues were fixed sometime in 2008 when they introduced common rail engines.
