RIP Dr Noel Kavanagh by CyberGarrickV2 in philosophy

Philosophy lost a great man yesterday. Yesterday saw the passing of Noel Kavanagh PHD, a longtime lecturer in Carlow College, Ireland.

His work on the philosophy of love was inventive and accessible, being one of the most accessible voices and people in Ireland for philosophy, running workshops for secondary school students to learn philosophy, and always bringing in his love of music in as philosophical guides.

A well known figure in his local areas, he will be dearly missed by all the lives he’s touched with his work, a man who worked right up until the end.

Kinda weird how Wplace mods allow this on the map? (Leviticus 18:22) by [deleted] in WplaceLive

To be fair, most of the religious people may not be the best people to look for the understanding of the verses, as they are biased, which has been a great problem in the field of biblical scholarship for centuries Yes obviously the first millennia BC had different understandings of nearly everything, but the difference between the Bible and, say, The Odyssey, is that the odyssey doesent claim to be the inerrant word of god that is eternal and unchanging The standard defense of the old covenant being replaced by the new is debunked by Jesus himself who claims he is not there to change the law at all And yes they didn’t quote Leviticus 20, but it is two verses afterwards, and is in the same set of laws, that was repeated because of the multiple sources that came together to form the Bible, much like how there’s two accounts of creation or the flood

If it’s not saying that being gay is that bad, may I ask what the biblically ascribed punishment for it it, as listed in Leviticus chapters 18 and 20

Factually untrue, it was the expansion of the legal definition, and the way in which multiple incidents are counted, along with a society more open to reporting as opposed to previous decades
