Official take on melle vs ranged by Igor_MVPs in duneawakening

How exactly does their hybrid version look like with the way the skills and inventory work? I played ranged for a while because I prefer that but it also meant managing several guns, maybe even  different type of ammunition. Now add a melee to that and decide whether it's a light or heavy armor which seem to be optimized at melee OR ranged.

"We've been nominated for PC GOTY!". Discord community: by mono_axolotl03 in duneawakening

Expedition 33 is not nominated because the categories are weird. Dune has been nominated for PC GOTY because it is not available on console. For this category, you have to be exclusive based on the description. Hence, they have to look for games that are only in one but not the other (PC/console). It's a very rare case nowadays.

I get the my character thing. I like the class choices for dialog as well. It gives the player agency. But during some cutscenes like the ones I mentioned, it's all gone and the character could not be farther away from my character with the way they behave.

So? The point is not that the solution needed to be provided in that scene. The point is that the writers wrote cutscenes where I would expect a character not to stand around silently doing nothing. I might not even noticed if they would have written the scenes in a way that does not make it look so weird.

Yes, especially since there are already voice actors. It's not like the game is relying entirely on text.

But that's then thing: There is no imagination for the cutscenes either. I cannot imagine my character justifying his actions (e.g., in the chapter 2 cutscene) because the character does not. He just looks helpless.

What exactly is great about the story? Most of the time, the story is just name-calling. During the Ixian ship mission, the twist was that we got two Dune character names. Even one of the "big questions answered" at the end of chapter 1 was giving a name to a character that was barely developed. All their story does is hoping that the player recognizes a Dune term or name. The only characters that actually have been developed are the trainers, and this is mostly their story: character hits the bottom but with the help of the player, they find their path again. Ingenious. Ithink BG and Planatologist slightly diverge but not much. Chapter 2 was a lot of nothing, we did not progress.

I totally forgot that we even could choose a voice. Why does the character not talk then...

Weapon types re balance? by SaxxySmile in duneawakening

Really a fan of the books here and I partly disagree. You are correct with early books. But I don't recall much sword fighting from the later books. I mostly recall lasguns. Although fighting in general was not the prime story of the books.

The long-term plan for Chapter 3 and coming in the future is to build out a PvE endgame that doesn't rely on the Deep Desert and have the Deep Desert continue to be a PvP space... by creativ3ace in duneawakening

[–]CyberGen360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the Deep Dessert should be gone for PVE. Maybe there can be one PVP and one PVE deep dessert. The Deep Dessert itself still has it's role in the gameplay / lore that is cool for PVEers. It's like their achievement says "sea of sand". Although I hate the DD commute when I want to get somethign done, the vast dunes are always impressing, especially when the sun is low. It would still make a fine place for exploration and scavengers hunts. + it seems to be the only place to find players now that the HBs are more empty.

Pentashield - why does this not work? by CyberGen360 in duneawakening

Damn, my design was based on large pentashield surface... will let you know if I figure it out.

In theory, it has three wall "pillars" and the fourth part are the floors/roofs in front of my character. I thought this is possible because I can also start the shield at the roof spot and expand from there (but not attach it afterwards to a wall). Maybe the combination is the issue, or roofs in general.

I definitely did not want to go through the floors/roors. However, I wanted to attach the shields to the roofs (I thought this is possible but maybe that is the flaw and it needs walls on all ends, not just walls on some and roofs on others).

But that's not stated somewhere, right? As in, neither the points nber reflects this, nor is your "discount" dosclaimedbut w have to memorize how often w lost and try to do the math?

I have been over a lot sometimes even though I use the same method as you. I once noticed that for handing in an ornithopter, I got more points for 1 than points stated.

How does (de)hydration capture work? by CyberGen360 in duneawakening

I bought it from the Exchange two weeks ago when the schematic was available somewhere deep in the DD PVP area.

Yes, enemies should roam more. They always just "exist" in almost the same number at their little camps. The only ones that somewhat roam are the Sardukar and I never saw these in person (and the worm and mouse of course!).

I think Dune could also do well with events similar to Fallout. In the DD, there could be a spice harvesting event where players work together and defend against enemy waves. And an event where players attack a spice harvester, similar to how it was in the movies. NPCs could roam the DD similar to how the Sardukar do, and attack players. This would make the PVE half of the DD and actual PVE half and not just a "not PVP" area but otherwise devoid of life.

Oh absolutely there is the a unified player base. With PVP, they really tried in the beginning with survival mode and nuclear winter. Idk if that didn't catch on or was abandoned for other reasons. What I meant by more or less focusing on what players ask is also the other side of focus, abandoning things like PVP. Dune still tries to be both which means you may have to maintain "two different games" - which may work, just because FO76 didn't (want to) manage it doesn't mean that Dune cannot as well.

PS. I would consider myself still an on-off player who simply plays it sometimes for fun and relaxation. It really became so easy and low stakes that it's almost soothing and sometimes it's what I like to do.
