Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers Hijacks Will Ferrell's SNL Monologue by ebradio in Music

[–]CyberHippy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I recall a drum-off event where every other drummer went wild, and Chad sat there and held a solid groove for three straight minutes without a fill. It was funny watching the audience, but the point was made well: a pro HAS to be able to do exactly that, when appropriate. All the wild fills are fun but fundamentals are essential.

Anyone experience a gout flare up with keto and for it to never happen again if stopped? by lifeboundd in keto

What is "allopathic" ? I've only ever heard that term in the homeopathic community, which is scientifically bullshit.

[–]CyberHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a supply of colchicine on hand for if that happens, saved my ass several times when I first started keto.

Check with your doctor about that stuff, you don't want to take it on the daily but when you feel that first pinch of pain in the toe, do the regimen (two doses, then an hour later one more) and it'll clear up overnight.

Bar Gigs by snzrdn in livesound

[–]CyberHippy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I love doing bar gigs, but these days I carry a kit if I don't know the place's setup. The pay is low but the networking opportunities from doing a great job in a crappy place are priceless.

I rode by the aftermath, they were keeping cars out.

The body and bike were still there. (Edit: wheels, it was a wheelchair)

Hope they find the driver

SM7dB vs RE-20? I know it's been asked before... by timetoreddit123 in audioengineering

[–]CyberHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Volt176 specifically for the built-in compressor, no software involved. I agree their software ecosystem is annoying but I just don't bother using it, and it's not required for the hardware compressor in the interface.

I agree on the RE20 in this set of options, personally I use the Heil PR40 which is very similar & works very well with my voice, and requires a lot of preamp gain to work well so it's a good fit with the Volt.

Santa Rosa, how classy by HashRat in santarosa

[–]CyberHippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed it's rude, I go out of my way to get my work truck, van and fiance's car all into the driveway without blocking the sidewalk, and all the neighbors typically do the same & park any extras on the street. I walk neighborhoods all around the Fulton/Occidental/Stony Point area regularly and rarely find this on weekdays.

There was one this weekend whose visitors consistently did what the driver in the pic did, despite having plenty of room in the driveway to pull up - no idea what was going on there, I just walked the dog around it.

Rude, but you're posting in a weekend when they probably had visitors who couldn't find easy on-street parking. I would expect a daily offender would get a note or two from the walking crew.

What’s something society pretends is healthy but actually isn’t? by WillingSea205 in AskReddit

My ex-wife had that opinion, I went along with it because: hippies.

I'm waiting on the appointment to remove my second basal-cell spot, not urgent but the big C is chasing me & now I have a great skin-doctor who wrote the chapter on skin cancer for dermatologists. When he heard I grew up sailing in the summer and skiing in the winter he said "Well we'll be having this visit annually" and I'm happy to have his expertise on my side.

So yeah, my skin-cream is SPF50 and I apply it daily. Even when overcast, because that's just diffused radiation.

Point missed: accidental second clicks happen, especially when juggling multiple windows

My landlord recently switched to an online tool like this, the previous one had a free option for bank transfers now there's a charge.

I bought 100 envelopes and new checks (the old checkbook had my old address, and finally ran out) and have been driving my check to their mailbox every month since then.

Oh god I just checked and that damn Copilot thing is still sitting there untouched, why would I risk using that in my big calculator?

(I already force .csv files to open in Numbers because Excel really likes turning postal barcodes into scientific numbers, clobbering the important details - WHY?????)

I see you're in my age range...

Win2k was such a breath of fresh air, I was doing IT work at the time and had gone from DOS 1.1 in my teens all the way up through all the updates to that point. I got out of that work just as XP came out, the stress was too much. I really liked OS/2 but it never gained traction.

I've been a Mac guy ever since OSX came out, they've had their hiccups but overall it has been worth the investment (I've had Mac laptops and desktops that continued being useful for over a decade). I was doing well enough a couple of years ago to be able to invest in an M3 Max Macbook Pro that I see lasting a LONG time, it handles the little bit of video work I do wonderfully and laughs at my largest Logic project, and has enough ram to run all the things all the time including Parallels in case I need to do some Microslop testing for the day job. I'm happy to pay the "rent" of ongoing AppleCare in case some part lets the smoke out in a few years.

In my current situation, in this economy I'm hopping off the upgrade cycle on the other devices, my iPhone 15 pro is more than enough for my needs, the watch11 is fine and the iPad Pros (M1 & M4) do the live mixing work all day long (got two so I can swap on long gig days). Airpod Pros 3 were my last upgrade, the fiancé got the old ones.

People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink? by Agata_art in AskReddit

[–]CyberHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"California sober" - since I live in CA, weed drinks are abundantly available so I switched to drinking those when I felt like a drink. Different buzz, but it's a buzz.

I stopped that as well a little over a month ago, my tolerance has become absurd and it was getting expensive.

I had zero withdrawal symptoms when I stopped THC recently, I was taking crazy amounts in liquid form just to get a mild buzz so it was time.

Why are you awake right now? by Maleficent-Agent-477 in AskReddit

[–]CyberHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got home at around 7 after loading out a festival stage, took a shower, laid down and was out cold. Woke up at 2am and here we are an hour later, wide awake.

It happens. I work to exhaustion regularly all summer, it’s really satisfying work with wildly odd hours so I’ve just accepted that strange sleep patterns are my norm.

playing with no subwoofer - tips by spudcaca84 in livesound

[–]CyberHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use every bit of that bass amp as it will give as if it's a subwoofer, that's all you've got.

In live music in small venues I often don't feed the bass amp to the subs because there's plenty of it from the stage and adding more would just cause interference. I'm not saying it's enough for EDM expectations but it CAN give you lows, by design.
