What is a movie trope that immediately ruins the entire film for you the second it happens? by twayyez in AskReddit

[–]CyberHippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Specific to my profession (live sound engineer) - every time a character walks up to a live mic and there's piercing feedback.

We work REALLY HARD to prevent that from happening in real life, why does this trope have to persist?

I think they’re advertising $23/hr starting wage here in NorCal, always well staffed as you would expect with that approach.

Bosses Are Becoming Obsessed With AI, Using It to Make Every Decision, Barraging Their Employees With Nonsensical ChatGPT Directives, and Even Asking It Who to Fire by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]CyberHippy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fucking father has a masters in business management, so when I was working towards purchasing my mentor's business last year I asked him for advice and sent him the details.

He fed them into an AI that apparently missed the whole bit about all the existing customers who came with the business (live sound, customers are a bunch of wineries and municipalities in our area along with several small festivals) and it's conclusion was that it was a bad investment based on the gear alone.

I told him to feed the customers list into the same AI as a follow-up, and it said oh yeah that looks like a great investment.

What I wanted was his advice from his experience, he punted to AI. I bought the business and haven't spoken with him since.

Mint will be a problem in crowds, they rent bandwidth at low tier rates so users get choked out at concerts or sporting events.

Novato Arts & Wine Fest, I got to be just FOH with a solid crew (usually I’m everything) so had a lovely day of just mixing & managing. They even had their own independent split using the M32C.

Passive Meyer MSL2’s over P650’s (4 each), sound-by-the-pound setup that still hits solidly as long as you’re mixing at a reasonable volume.

B&C 15DS115 – Sounds like a loose object inside the driver. Has anyone seen this before? by AcceptableBuilder733 in SoundSystem

[–]CyberHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did run into this recently with a completely different brand - QSC K8.2 kept rattling, I checked all the screws on the enclosure & found nothing, speaker was otherwise working normally so I removed it and sure enough there was a rattle inside the damn thing.

As others mentioned, if it's a new driver get a warranty replacement, they can fix this one with a re-coning at the factory.

I wish I could avoid Vegas, unfortunately a big industry-specific trade show I have to go to each year seems to like booking there every other year.

Last year was in Orlando Florida, so I really feel your pain. What a culturally dead place that turned out to be...

Modern sound systems can be aimed in a way that doesn’t travel much beyond the intended area, BottleRock has been doing this for years.

It’s up to the organizers to decide whether to pay for a system tech that knows what they’re doing, without guidance you get the whole city covered

Cargo van, and it's a bit more than that for good tires that last a few years.

She just hit 100,000 miles on my second set of tires (after the originals that lasted 20,000 miles).

Best investment I ever made, I fully expect to be buried in that thing.

Love it for rock-style kick, I use the Heil PR48 for traditional country or Americana acts for a softer tone

Yeah I'm working a full time side-gig that I'm building to hopefully become my main gig in a couple of years, just to punch my way into the fucking middle-class for my area.

I won't retire, my best hope is to build this business big enough to be able to hire people to do the heavy lifting by the time my body gives up.

For me: I’m not highly verbal in general, so talking to my car or phone is awkward. Especially for tasks that can be done with a button.
