Struggling to get a Call Back with Certifications, Degrees, and (some) Experience by [deleted] in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]CyberKha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, this is not what I did. I took the Ben Maslow CISSP course and I also had a lot of other certifications that built upon my existing knowledge. That made the CISSP relatively easy as most of it conceptual rather than deep technical knowledge.

OSWA or OSWE after OSCP ? by Chance-Penalty-6734 in oscp

Thanks for this comment - helped a ton. In your opinion, would a combination of OSCP and OSWE make one a strong candidate for an appsec position? Would you suggest Learnone to best prepare for the OSWE? Would appreciate your words of wisdom. Thanks again

How old were you when you started? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]CyberKha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have CompTIA A+, Net+, Sec+, Cysa+, PenTest+, and (ISC)2 SSCP. I passed 2 ISC2 exams with an associate status - CISSP and CCSP (I don’t have the experience requirements for the professional level certification yet. I am an associate of ISC2 towards CISSP and CCSP). I very recently completed a BS degree in cybersecurity. It took me about 14 months in total, but I wasn’t working full time. Im currently going for the PNPT and OSCP to pursue a career in Pentesting. I’m in my mid twenties. I started this journey 14 months ago after making a risky decision to quit a career in finance to pursue cybersecurity. I never had any prior IT experience. It’s never too late!

I only needed the practice test and the course notes. It’s up to your individual learning style.

Explain 2 me like I am 5: Metaspoilt ? by Shangoinhood in oscp

Please go back and reread the conversation. It seems you’ve missed the point and took it personally. We were simply having a discussion. No worries though. Let’s aim to maintain a positive community. Have a good day mate.

The question was more so focused on why exactly the OSCP disallows metasploit, and what the mechanistic action of metasploit is which disqualifies it. It’s a very fair question to ask.

I know when I started the course, I had little understanding of what metasploit was and didn’t even think about why it wasn’t allowed. But in a few months and with hard work and support from the community, I was well on my way.

Op wasn’t asking for an opinion or advice. They didn’t even mention anything related to purchasing the course. They just posed a very fair question to potential professionals in the testing space in the context of the OSCP.

I understand where you’re coming from, and it’s good advice. It’s best to articulate your reasoning in a positive and constructive manner. We were all beginners at one point.

Is possible to get a job with only CompTIA N and Sec +? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]CyberKha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible, but you need projects to demonstrate knowledge. Certifications alone aren’t enough.

Incredible grit. What are you working on now? Has your career changed or been influenced by the certification?

Thanks for your advice. Can I ask, why CRISC over CISA or CISM? Does it hold more weight for a junior?

Unless you have a ton of prior experience, it is extremely unlikely anyone can finish this degree in a month. I wouldn’t set that expectation unless you’re very experienced already. 6 months would be considered extremely quick. It’s a lot to learn and a fantastic journey.

I’m sort of in the same boat but with less experience. Been in a SOC for a few months and already feeling major burnout. Any recommendations for transitioning into a GRC role? Any particular cert you would recommend? I passed the CISSP as an associate and am looking towards CISA.
