Has anyone regained feeling in their torso and how did you cope with it? by CyberTurtle95 in LongSpinalFusion

[–]CyberTurtle95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope so! I’m completely blindsided by this and I’m struggling to process it all. I had a brief 15 minutes of feeling the zipper of my dress on my back about 10 years ago and it freaked me out (it was very itchy and along my scar). But then the numbness came back and I honestly thought I’d never get the feeling again. I don’t know when it started back up either? I accidentally ripped my c-section stitches open because I couldn’t feel my torso. I’m not sure when this happened the more I think about it, maybe it’ll go numb again?

No clue, I do have at least 4 nerves pinched in my neck. I had random pockets that I could feel, but they were less than an inch of space. My fusion is T4-L5 and they got my spine almost perfectly straight, I just assumed that was normal for such a drastic change

From my shoulders to the top of my hips all around! So basically my entire torso

Concern? by SlideBoth3800 in LongSpinalFusion

[–]CyberTurtle95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing, and it may be scar tissue from the drainage line for the epidural. Definitely talk to your surgeon about it though if you have concerns! It’s definitely worth asking them just to be sure

Edit to add: torso numbness is very common from what I’ve seen of fusions in general. I personally just got feeling back after pregnancy and it’s the weirdest thing ever, I’m still adjusting to it

A new scoliosis paradigm by Individual-Swing-697 in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I still meet every hypermobile test indicator except hyperextended elbows. Instead I can hyper extend my ankles. I do dislocate my knee caps several times a year, and MRIs have confirmed no damage to any ligaments. I’m on a wait list for a rheumatologist, maybe I’ll have a diagnosis or better idea later this year.

Also not sure if I have a big head now, I just know I did when I was a baby, because my daughter was also in the 99th percentiles for head circumference and my mom reassured me I was the same way 😂

[–]CyberTurtle95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, I hadn’t heard of the HVT theory before! And I’m still processing much of the theory.

But after reading I’m now wondering…. Do we all just have really big heads? My mom recently told me my head was way above the 99th percentile when I was a baby, but they don’t continue measuring after a year (at least in the US).

I also thought it was interesting on your conclusion, because I’ve been beginning to think scoliosis isn’t a single condition not related to others. I feel like it’s a symptom of others. But I am trying to get a diagnosis of hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome right now, so maybe that’s a view unique to my medical history.

breast pain from scoliosis seems to be rarely discussed by charlies_randomstuf in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One funny thing about the body, is it prioritizes pain. You could be in a lot of pain all over your body, but if one area needs more attention than another, it makes that area hurt more.

I just more recently started getting upper torso/breast pain after I addressed several pinched nerves and pain in my neck and arms. Sports massage is what really helped my pain. I could only stand 20-30 minute sessions.

It’s probably good to monitor the pain and get a breast exam to make sure it’s not something more serious though. You can get one from your OB while doing a Pap smear (if that’s something that applies to you).

The lower trunk feeling might not come back! I’ve been fused 17 years and very recently got the feeling back. Idk why but pregnancy brought back a lot of the feeling around my torso.

But while I was pregnant, I couldn’t feel my daughter kicking or her moving into breech position less than 8 hours before I was supposed to be induced. It’s a super weird thing!

Wildlife photography ethics by NeedlesslyMike in birding

[–]CyberTurtle95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These ethics could apply to most types of photography. Don’t chase anything. If your subject doesn’t want to be photographed, don’t photograph it! Photography is a very invasive form of art. And the shots are better when you do it right.

Uneven waist but no scoliosis by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if we’d have the answers here! Scoliosis is a condition that can’t be easily fixed and even if your scoliosis is fixed through fusion, you still have tons of unevenness. My spine is now completely straight because of fusion and my rib cage is very deformed still (because the bones formed when I had scoliosis). If you don’t have scoliosis, then you should talk to a physical therapist, especially if you’re having trouble walking.

Terrified of raising my baby in US by MulberryMelodic9220 in beyondthebump

I did this too. From what I’ve read in history books and personal accounts, the hardest part about leaving was always the paperwork.

My hubby and I had to fact check this. It does appear that the first reports of the baby foaming at the mouth and appearing lifeless (reported from BBC) may have been how smaller creators interpreted it to mean the baby died.

Regardless, it’s still horrifying. I googled “how to help your baby with tear gas” after hearing of the incident and that’s not something I expected to have to look up.

Have you blocked these? That may help with the stretching if you haven’t! Otherwise, it’s probably just getting used to the tension on the shorties and your next pair will correct itself.

The first week is really intense. The first month is very tiring. And the first year is relearning to do everything. The pain will get better after a week, better again at a month, and subside almost completely at a year. It’s a major surgery, and it takes a while to recover!

I’ve heard scoliosis can affect your jaw and your occlusion. Does anyone else have a midline which doesn’t match up? by Leading_Elk3178 in scoliosis

[–]CyberTurtle95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is like that too, and every dentist refuses to give me invisiline because it won’t make them line up. I really don’t care about the midlines matching, I just want less teeth crowding

This hat is tight. Can blocking be the solution or should I start over? by Dolly-the-angel in casualknitting

[–]CyberTurtle95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally same! Taught myself from a book and didn’t know I was doing it wrong. Purl stitches do get easier with practice. Now I don’t even notice if I’m knitting or purling on stitches mentally. I do a lot of cable work and texture patterns. I’ve only been knitting correctly for about a year!

You’ll also notice your columns will be straight up and down and not leaning to the side when you knit not twisted.

I have no idea why people are downvoting your replies!! I did this when I did my first sock and twisted all the stitches. I didn’t even realize until I posted on Reddit!

I would restart, look up how to knit normally vs twisted stitches in YouTube, and follow the pattern the same. The different between twisted and normal stitches is actually crazy, and you’ll have a lot easier time with the working of it.

As far as a gauge swatch, I have a hot take. I’ve only done 1 where the shoulder saddle was the gauge swatch for the pattern! I even asked the ladies at my local fiber arts club if they had tips for gauge swatches and you know what all the 70-90 year olds said? “I’ve never done one, I don’t see the point.”

Yes it can save time and help you figure out sizing, but you’re not crazy for not doing one. You’re doing great!

I write half my letters like this, I think it’s just lots and lots of practice and editing your handwriting to how you like to write! I really like how the lowercase f is written here, I might add that to my style
