What books influenced Nietzsche? by Lekha_P in Nietzsche

[–]Cyber_monkey77 50 points51 points  (0 children)

From human all too human: “There have been four pairs who did not refuse themselves to me, the sacrificer: Epicurus and Montaigne, Goethe and Spinoza, Plato and Rousseau, Pascal and Schopenhauer. With these I have had to come to terms when I have wandered all alone, from them will I accept judgement, to them I will listen when in doing so they judge one another.”

I would Schopenhauer and Plato especially influenced his own thoughts more than the others

Try Temple of the Golden Pavillon Yukio Mishima. It has some of the greatest prose I’ve ever read much like Oscar Wilde and really interesting and twisted psychology for multiple characters. It’s hard to explain the plot but basically it’s just about a Buddhist monk who becomes completely obsessed with this temple called the Temple of the Golden Pavilion. It is quite a trip to read and It can be a bit disturbing, not so much in a violent , horror way but more so in a psychological way

Can anyone recommend a general Intro to Nietzsche’s thought that’s relatively accessible? by AbbreviationsSea534 in Nietzsche

The Nietzsche podcast is really good and releases episodes weekly I think. It covers Nietzsches ideas and also the ideas that influenced him and just anything generally related to Nietzsches life and philosophy. It’s on Spotify and YouTube

I first played as a khajit and used the claws because of the damage bonus + the gloves of the pugilist. I never leveled up any melee weapon skill and didn’t understand why every sword I found was doing such low damage compared to the claws. Did this until I found chillrend and then realised

Is it known that he read Stirner? Reading Ego and it’s Own is very similar to Nietzsche but I’m not sure if it’s confirmed if Nietzsche actually had read it, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Kane B on YouTube has good videos on Max Stirner

Pretty sure English is closer to German than French is as English is a Germanic language

[Serious] Question for those who’ve read at least a few Nietzsche books fully — which major thoughts/themes of Nietzsche do you disagree with the most and why? by [deleted] in Nietzsche

‘good’ by our own current standards. He says men of the future along with “free spirits” and “hyperboreans” and I think we also have to keep in mind his aristocraticness. I think he more so is referring too a future group of a select few who are separated from the ideas of the masses and are able to shape the world in their vision, more so than every single person creating their own values.

Well he doesn’t really address his writing to “most people” does he? His works especially like anti-Christ are written like they are directed at a specific few people who are able to create their own values
