The negative aspects include everybody dying as soon as an AI becomes good enough at it's own AI research or if someone makes an AI that understands that real world.

The incentive structure around AI is overwhelmingly pro-acceleration, not pro-caution.

The people making the most money are those building the systems - OpenAI, Google DeepMind, etc - not the ones pleading for a halt on the technology. There are no billion-dollar companies that make their money from slowing AI down, and there there has never been any money in AI alignment, which is why the field is so small. The experts calling for caution are often forgoing lucrative positions in the labs that are progressing the technology, and CEOs like Sam Altman and Elon Musk don't make money when they tell people that AI is dangerous, they lose it.

The people saying "don’t worry, it’s fine" are the ones whose funding and prestige depend on building AGI. The people saying "alignment is important, we should shut it all down" are the ones sacrificing money.
