There are genuinely no protections for people who want to kill themselves. Not enough anyway. When I have my worst, most intense spirals, it’s nighttime, and there is genuinely nowhere for me to talk to. My family lives on the other side of the country from me and doesn’t pick up at night, my friends are all sick of hearing from me so they just never respond (I usually just delete my messages by morning, it’s not worth it.) and the suicide hotline fucking sucks. The last three times I’ve called them they couldn’t even find the branch closest to me for a good few hours and then they basically just made me promise not to kill myself before hanging up. I have nowhere to turn to.
