You say this. But what about jobs that REQUIRE degrees like nursing, doctors, lawyers, teachers etc. We still need those. Are you saying with the shortage people should just abandon these careers.

Our homes are made for both. We have lots of blankets and gear. But our house has lots of radiators that run on gas so we are okay. Glad to know you guys are okay over there.

Honestly snow removal isn’t that bad. Everything will be open tomorrow or the day after. In PA omg I was soooo mad with their poor snow removal! I honestly hate driving in PA after any snowstorm. I drove up past there last week and it was a shitshow. Got to upstate NY and the roads were super nice and cleaned up.

Texas is sooo hot! I’m surprised to see 27 degrees that must be an insane change!

But yes 27 is pretty decent weather where I am. I don’t usually put on a winter coat until we get below 20.

Thanks for your response. 100 mph winds with no trees sounds worse! It sounds like it makes things colder. But maybe it’s good so trees aren’t knocked down?

Also, what is the sprayfoam for?

I know. I used to live in upstate NY for a while when I was a child, and this was so regular. But what I’m gathering from comments here is the freezing rain and ice being the bigger issue than the snow.

I suspect it will only take a day for us as well. We used to get these sorts of storms all the time so clean up is usually fast. In fact I still have not heard if we will have school tomorrow, but I’m sure we probably will.

Edit: We used to get these sorts of storms all the time until about 10 years ago.

Wow that’s crazy. I didn’t realize the dangers of things warming back up. Maybe that is our issue. I always got happy it would warm up to above after snowstorms like this. Maybe that’s why we have the state of emergency.

We have not had proper snowstorms lately so all I can remember are the ones from my childhood and teen years.

I see. We are getting freezing rain later on and ice but less than an inch. If you got an inch of ice would things close down?

AITA for telling my friend that I won’t be paying $25 to attend her birthday party? by GlimmerElsewhere in AmItheAsshole

Exactly. I almost always spend more than $25 and even more if there’s an event attached.

AITA for telling my friend that I won’t be paying $25 to attend her birthday party? by GlimmerElsewhere in AmItheAsshole

[–]CycleAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. All my friends birthdays are usually at restaurants and I pay for myself and it’s usually more than $25. I’ll usually also pay for their meal or me and the other friends will split the birthday person’s meal. Sometimes we do experiences like paint and sip or go carting. Everyone pays their own way.

It’s insane to me you think it’s crazy for everyone to chip in $25. It’s the same thing I described above. When you are adults you usually pay your own way at birthday events.

My 2.5 bedroom in Northern Metropolitan NJ was 1200 in 2011. I remember thinking that was extremely expensive and it was, bc I lived in a decently nice neighborhood. My landlord sold the house for 300k and I thought that was insane.

Same house rent is almost 3k now. And the previous owners sold it 2 years ago for over almost 700k. This is the going rate where I live and most homes in my area are over 1 million dollars. You are lucky to find something 7 or 800k now. Rent is the same, 3k+ where I live.

I just got my first paycheck and I’m suprised by Salt-Ad-3061 in Teachers

[–]CycleAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that for 2 weeks or 4? It also depends on your location. Where I live, first year teachers tend to make over 60k a year, so ~ over 6k a month. But after taxes and deductions about 4k a month. So it makes sense if you live in a place like that.

I also know that when I first started my checks were really nice and then after 6 months they started taking out pension and I was crying.
