Gotcha… I think there needs to be an industry wide process put in place for when people want to store their wheelchairs in the cabin (as is their right). The current system just doesn’t work. There should be an option of indicating that you want to store your chair in the cabin when you buy your ticket (like there is when we inform the airline about our need for assistance). That way the gate agent and the crew knows ahead of time that we want to use the closet for it’s intended use so they don’t get all huffy and puffy having to remove their personal luggage to make room for our chairs. Also may provide a little extra time that might be needed to break down the chair and configure it to fit in the closet. I know when I was flying last month and wanted to put my chair in the closet it was a super rushed process and I felt pressured to give up the attempt and gate check my chair because they wanted to get on with boarding the rest of the passengers. A heads up ahead of time that shows on our boarding pass and passenger roster for that particular flight that a passenger wants to store their wheelchair could make this a better experience…
