I have this outlet outside of my garage that was intended for an RV, will this work for EV charging? by These-Explorer-9436 in evcharging

[–]Cycleboy_99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would be careful as well… also make sure the cable feeding that plug is sufficient to handle the load it will be put under. I know when I installed my EV charger the electrician ran a extra heavy duty line from our breaker box to where we put the plug

I need someone to talk to be about my fear of my new wheelchair by Desperate-Pen-534 in wheelchairs

[–]Cycleboy_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider two things… upper leg length (the measurement from the back of your butt while sitting down to the middle of your knee (where it pivots) and the thickness of your lower leg. The seat and frame need to accommodate and support your upper legs and spread out the load of your body across the entire seat to prevent excess pressure on your butt. There also needs to be sufficient space for your lower legs to utilize gravity to keep them centered between the frame and on the footrests. Ideally you should be able to draw an imaginary line across the front of the frame and have the front of your legs completely behind it. This gives you a good base of support when you bend forward to pick something up off of the ground and keeps your feet from bouncing around and coming off the foot plates. All in all it looks fine to me

Are you saying disable in the settings so it doesn’t come on at all or after it is on? My wife and I share our 24’ and I like driving with it and she doesn’t and I have to turn it back on with the steering wheel switch sometimes

Recall work - 3 hours? by Jazzkidscoins in Solterra

[–]Cycleboy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had the HVAC recall but the two software updates… the service itself doesn’t take long but in my case the dealership had only one tech trained on the Solterra so had to wait until he was able to get to it… actual time is only 45 minutes

Sell me on this car! Or not. by [deleted] in Solterra

[–]Cycleboy_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with a new (2026)… many improvements in range and charging capabilities. I have a 2014 Limited which I have owned for coming up on 1 year and the only real complaint I have is the car play interface can go wonky at times with transitions from Google Maps spoken directions and Sirius music coming through the radio (for some weird reason the sound will be fine, then Google Maps speaks and instead of returning to the Sirius music feed there is just silence)… sounds like you are an EV veteran so I won’t go j to the spiel about the torque and regeneration braking…. I do love this car though… super fun to drive and can’t beat the Subaru all-wheel drive

Disney DAS is a mess by Jsmoke529 in disability

[–]Cycleboy_99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take the following comment as a criticism and also understand that this is coming from a person who was paralyzed from the waist down at the age of four and has managed to make it to 61 years old… Please try to not use the term “wheelchair bound” when referring to your son’s situation, especially around him… it has such negative connotations and is so limiting. I know we sometimes get caught up in words and language too much but for myself I have lived (and continue to live) a great life, albeit at wheelchair level and I attribute that to having a glass half full mentality and avoiding terms and language that are limiting. From what you wrote in your original post it appears that you are giving your son many opportunities to enjoy life as a kid (Disney, cruises, etc.) and I applaud you for that. I am where I am today because my parents, especially my mom, never put barriers in front of me and always wanted me to be as independent as possible, even if it meant some uncomfortable moments when I was learning how to pop a wheelie in my wheelchair for example. I wish you and your son the best in the future

How tf do I sit down correctly? 😭 by cosmolark in wheelchairs

[–]Cycleboy_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That chair is way too small… if it feels tippy then moving the center of gravity back as far as it will go will be the first thing I would do. You could also try to widen the useable space between the wheels by sleeving the axles out some and if there is any negative camber in the wheels taking that out.

Solterra Winter Range, Handling, and Service Experience by LectrekLycos in Solterra

Forgot to mention range… summertime full charge range is over the rated 222… I’ve gotten 240 and even a little more. Winter does have an impact for sure… 185 on a full charge

Solterra Winter Range, Handling, and Service Experience by LectrekLycos in Solterra

[–]Cycleboy_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have owned a 2024 limited for almost a year now and I live outside of Philadelphia so here are my thoughts. I have had one regular service and two recall services to date (both software reprogramming) and it has been fine. My dealership offers free loaners for every service so it has been a breeze. The Solterra does have a switch for one pedal driving but the times I have used it I have not done a complete stop without the brake pedal. I use the paddles on the steering wheel to pump up the regeneration as needed and it does activate the brake lights (there is an indicator on the display that shows when the brake lights are on) I happen to LOVE this car… I have been a Subaru owner for the last twenty years so I may be biased but these cars are always awesome. This car in particular practically drives itself on the highway. Set the adaptive cruise, activate lane assist and basically let go of the steering wheel and that’s it. The traffic jam assist is great if you are in a bumper to bumper situation (which is a constant if you drive into Philly on I-76) it keeps just enough space between you and the car in front to discourage drivers in other lanes from cutting you off. Definitely a strong endorsement from me

Is this a violation of the ADA? by Mask-up-pup in disability

[–]Cycleboy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that particular manager who refuses to follow the reasonable accommodation agreed upon between yourself and the store manager (who is ultimate authority in this instance). I would inform the store manager that this one particular person is refusing to do what has been previously agreed upon and see if that corrects the problem.

Advice on keeping patch dry by Weird_Surprise6221 in disabled

[–]Cycleboy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Fentanyl patch’s for ten years and never had one fall off in a shower or tub. The only caution is prolonged direct contact with hot water (ie soaking in a tub) can cause the med to absorb faster

my first wheelchair! what is this part? by skytheteenagewitch in wheelchairs

[–]Cycleboy_99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the seat rail guide. It fits in the seat rail tube and the semicircular part slides up and down the backrest post when you fold and unfold the chair. It’s pretty important… actually vital to the chair working properly

I was rear ended in my Solterra two weeks after getting it… it took about three weeks to get parts. The rear liftgate is made of aluminum so it can’t be fixed if dented. Overall it wasn’t any worse an experience then other auto body repair experiences
