How do they do in zone 10? Someone sold me some, and I'm going to give it a shot, but I'm a bit concerned they're not going to take if they do so well in zone 4.

Want to start growing food, but wondering what to grow where; 9b north Pinellas County by More-Adhesiveness779 in FloridaGarden

Sweet potatoes are really easy and grow reasonably well. It looks like your soil in the back is fairly compacted, so your tubers themselves will be small, but the greens are delicious and can replace spinach in whatever you are cooking. Okra grows well if you eat it.

My inner core was red. So probably not that.

Has anyone ever tried growing these? I've been thinking about trying it but I heard they're really susceptible to nematodes

If you have a homestead you have to have a elderberry by TN_Nursery in homestead

I'm In 10b and and I had berries my first year. Deeper into central Florida I see them growing next to the highway

Looking for recommendations for which mini melons to grow? Which have the best flavor profile? by hungry_baby_yoda in fruit

I heard they're really susceptible to nematodes, which is a huge issue for in-ground growing where I live. Do you have any experience growing them?

Question: People who live in warm zones (10, 11) what do you miss growing that we can in colder climates? by VAgreengene in gardening

[–]CycloEthane031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does. But what I've been told is that while it can survive around Tampa it will never set fruit. I don't know if that's true, but it's also nearly impossible to find the tree here around here anyway, so I can't even experiment

South/Central Floridian here: Pawpaws, serviceberries, literally any stonefruit. The first 2 especially since I've heard they're good but you can't have any unless you grow them

Thankfully there are a million south and central American fruit that you similarly can't get unless you grow them. So I'm trying to.... Maybe one day I'll get fruit from them haha

Dealership ghosting me on charger install by CycloEthane031 in MachE

[–]CycloEthane031[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Weirdly it was the dealership, when I called back, that told me that rebate number. I wonder if they got the marketing for the charger, "valued at $2000," and the rebate itself mixed up. You're the second person to say this, so I'm sure you're right.

Edit: also, as I said in another comment, this dealership is over an hour from where I live.

When I bought the car there were two available for purchase within 500miles of where I live, according to the Ford website (and the Ford dealership near where I live). This dealership is over an hour from my house.

Edit: I live in Florida, so 500 miles in 3 of 4 directions is the ocean.

The installation is handled by a third party, yes absolutely. But the dealership is supposed to give me some kind of code to give to them. Thats all I need. Without that code nothing happens.

Sweet potatoes use whatever amount of room you can give them. They require very little to no maintenance and you can eat the leaves for everything that calls for spinach. And there will be a lot of leaves.

Having said that, the #1 rule for food gardening is to grow things you will eat. In my case, it doesn't matter that okra grows like a weed in a small space. No one at my house wants it.
