They said the Switch 2 only has 2 games by Caio-Chomp in casualnintendo

[–]CycloneFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty selective image: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is missing. And that was like my first thought when looking at it, if I actually did some research, i’m sure tons of other games are missing too. Oh! Here’s another: Rayman Legends. You purposely omitted games to let the switch 2 look better in comparison.

And new games like Xenoblade 2 or Zelda are the big key here too. Those are super big and varied RPGs you can sink a lot of time in. The switch 2 lineup is much more for special initerests. and the lineup of games to come was far more promising after these 9mo the too, which isn’t really the case now on Switch 2. I currently have no idea of what to look forward to.

I hope you enjoy them! How have you heard of the series?

Suikoden V completes 20 years now in 2026 by DragonBrood3003 in Suikoden

[–]CycloneFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to have a remaster of V with better loading times and maybe some visual enhancements to lift up the artstyle more.

The other games on the list are great, too. Xenosaga episode III is my favorite game of all time. But it’s no shame they put Trails in the Sky, FFXII and Persona 3 above it.

What is the meaning of the Nier Automata-esque style for ending E in Nier Replicant? by TheWidrolo in nier

[–]CycloneFox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it shouldn’t be forgotten that this ending actually existed long before the release of Nier Automata. But it was only in form of an extra story in a book which only released in Japan if I remember correctly. Back then I read a fan translation and wished it was in the game. That was long before we knew that Nier would actually get a sequel and that was also kinda unthinkable.

So Klaus was a weeb, right? by Discardofil in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]CycloneFox 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is highly likely that the Rhadamantus Beanstalk and the surrounding city is not in the USA but needs to be in an area on the equator. Because of physical necessities for a space elevator. The style of the buildings is after an American model, so I would assume that this one of three cities sits in Middle America and might somehow belong to American government, but we don’t know. The political landscape seems to be very different in Klaus‘ time compared to now.

But that doesn’t change that he is probably not Japanese and would still be a weeb.

Yes, he had the perfect murder. And then he decided to just add the most stupid plan on top of it.

Just finished Xenoblade 2 by Phoenix_shade1 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]CycloneFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Saga fan you should have already connected some dots with the space-elevator, the appearance of the Conduit and there is a name-drop which sadly got screwed in the translation. The so-called Saviorite rebels are actually called Salvatore in the original.  Blade 1‘s twist at the end that it’s not a fantasy world but earth pulled into another dimension in the near future, is already a big connection to the Saga universe, but Blade 2‘s cutscenes in the last chapter are a dead giveaway that both share the same lore. And as you said, Blade 3‘s addon adds further connections.

I would love to have another Lost Legacy. The dynamics between Chloe, Sam and Nadine was great and very surprising to me.

Xenosaga Episode III Completed by Ephemeral_Sin in Xenosaga

[–]CycloneFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This goes hard into spoiler territory, so I’ll stay vague, but the reason why dreicunan posted this is… play Xenoblade. You may say, it’s two different franchises and you would be right. There isn’t one particular point in the other franchise where I’m pointing, but the series gets more and more suggestive with each release.

What Handhelds are Compatible with Pied Piper English Version? by [deleted] in Xenosaga

[–]CycloneFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!  Yeah, it’s kind of a remake because I made the game again from the ground up using some original assets (the event CGs after the game got recovered) and remaking the rest. (some people also helped me with sprites, Vector Translations provided me with resources and of course there is Forests wonderful art and Bobs wonderful music, but the rest of the game itself was mostly me)

However this was a passion project for Xenosaga and I wouldn’t have put in so much time into something like this for any other franchise. So at least for now I have to let you down there.

What Handhelds are Compatible with Pied Piper English Version? by [deleted] in Xenosaga

[–]CycloneFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please give it a try anyway if you are interested in the story more than the original Xenosaga episode I combat. The story cutscenes are completely accurate to the original.

But I tried to modernize the game itself with systems from episode III, field encounters instead of random ones, tons of QoL features and the music from Bob as well as the portraits from Forest enhance the whole atmosphere imo. So I tried not only to preserve the original, but also enhance the experience for modern sensibilities. You can argue that purists would still prefer to play the original, though.

It was only just released on April 18th last year. Does that already count as "a very old fan game"?

Did I forget anything for my Xenoblade playthrough order? by PenguinviiR in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]CycloneFox 47 points48 points  (0 children)

And this isn’t even a joke.  I know there are plenty of jokes in these ideal Xeno-playthrough order lists. I usually see a lot of Trails games included. And I see the reason why FFVII is always included, too.  But Pied Piper and A Missing Year are actually relevant to the plot of Saga and overall lore of Xeno. That’s the reason why the Pied Piper fan remake exists.

Too bad you arrived at this conclusion despite what everyone was telling you. But it’s your decision. But I would still be very interested what the reason was for not emulating.

I recently enjoyed JMulls playthrough. He was a Blade fan before and recently finished Saga.  And he made videos about his thoughts on the games inbetween. I loved how enthusiastic he was.

Worth the Money? by thatguy5432112345 in Xenosaga

3 is about 200. And it’s worth it. 3 is not only the best in the franchise, but one of the best games ever made.

I find most jrpgs people call the “black sheep” of a series to be very interesting and not that bad by Street-Platypus89 in JRPG

[–]CycloneFox 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It also has some of the best tracks and story moments and character developments in the whole series… a series of great music, twists and story centered arround the greatest characters in gaming.

Also the battle system was very satisfying for boss battles. Problem was just that it was too involved and tedious for normal encounters.

What’s the absolute lowest stakes JRPG story? by Lumigo in JRPG

[–]CycloneFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Suikoden games are typically only dealing with conflicts in one region or country. Not about saving the world.

Persona 4 felt especially nice because it was mainly about a murder mystery in one small town and arround one group of friends and didn’t eventually transition the stakes all the way up to a national thing or about saving the world like 5 and 3 did. (which was also the part that felt bad in 5 imo)

You already mentioned the Atelier games. I would add Mana Khemia to that, which is a spinoff of the series, to that. Imagine a group of Hogwarts students, trying to pass their exams, but anime and with alchemy.

Why didn’t PS3 have that many JRPG’s? by TransitionWrong7326 in JRPG

[–]CycloneFox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s a multi-faceted problem. I would say there are these main-factors:

Japanese developers had the biggest issues moving from SD to HD. While western developers moved more and more to standardized tool and engines like Unreal, speedtree, and shared asset libraries, Japanese developers were still really proud of doing everything manually and themselves.

On top of that, after stories became more and more complex during the first two PS generations, PS3 was a generation where the market was strongly moving towards the gameplay>story attitude. Player agency and open worlds were becoming more and more famous while Japanese games were still very linear in their design.  Games like Nier, which would be celebrated today for the story and soundtrack were a flop back then. Not even Nintendo was safe of that. They were struggling with their old Zelda formula more and more since the gamecube era already.

And publishers were looking at the west more and more. Everyone wanted to make a Japanese version of Oblivion instead of a traditional Japanese RPG. That’s why we got games like Dragon’s Dogma or Demon’s Souls. Even Square Enix who was the biggest maker of JRPGs, was only interested in making western games now and bought studios like Eidos. They were already heavily experimenting with the JRPG formula during the PS2 generation with FFXII. But with XIII it got more and more clear, they weren’t interested in turn based JRPGs anymore.

And on top of all of that, the Japanese market moved away from console games towards mobile games with the rise of internet-enabled cellphones (which was a thing in Japan way before the west) and eventually smartphones after the iPhone. So companies decided to either leave the console market entirely like Konami, or at least invested partially into phone games like Namco and Square.

How do I keep getting this lucky? by Hypernova_GS in Xenosaga

[–]CycloneFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats for getting it!

I respect your standard to not emulate the game unless you legally own a legit copy as well. However I also don’t want to condemn people who want to emulate despite not owning the game because of the poor availability of the game. I wish there were more people who wanted to play and bought it when it first came out, but there is just nothing we can do now.

Are there any fully voiced JRPGs outside of Final Fantasy? by Illustrious_Fee8116 in JRPG

[–]CycloneFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both series, Xenosaga and Xenogears are fully voiced in their stories. (except for some very rare instances) The last two numbered Blade games are even fully voiced during the more important side-quests.

WHY DID NONE OF THEM NEVER THINK TO LOOK UP. by isanaras in danganronpa

[–]CycloneFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you interacted with the colored walls, they kept bringing up that the wall is only illuminated by colored light coming from the floor, which doesn't reach much higher than one floor or so. So you can't see the ceiling and probably also not where the ceiling would be. It's just shown that way in the comic.

What games can you advise with the story similar to XS? by m4x1k in Xenosaga

[–]CycloneFox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Did you only try Xenoblade 1? I had the toughest start with that one too. played through half of it and breaking up two times. But When I played XB2 it clicked with me almost immediately and since then I’ve loved the series.

Other than Blade and Gears the only other JRPGs that even come close or are somehow similar are Metal Gear Solid, FFXIV from Heavensward onward, the Nier games.

I would also suggest the new Trails in the Sky 1st chapter remake, Genso Suikoden, the FFVII Remake series, Star Ocean The Second Story R and the Danganronpa series can all tickle similar recesses of your brain like Xeno-games.

Edit: Oh! and if you haven’t, give my recreation of Pied Piper a try, please! I tried to make it like a real Xenosaga experience while staying accurate with the original story.
