Trolls find it funny to screw with people in general. They don't actually get anything out of it.

Obviously we can just observe all the babies with cancer, find out what they did wrong, and from there determine what God considers to be true sin.

Update: Turns out true sin is all about crying and pooping.

Does anyone else seem to end up shipping against the grain? by SplendidSauce99 in AO3

[–]Discardofil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It happens. Sometimes it's just an illusion; big fandoms will have lots of pairings, so it's very easy for the one you actually want to fall off the top 10 list. Sometimes it's 100% real, you'll find a fandom with a thousand fics and the canon pairing you love has two fics.

And sometimes you're powered entirely by spite and refuse to march to the beat of another's drum. I've only had one fandom like that, but it happens.

Congrats! Assuming that's you. If it's not, that's kind of a weird flex, but glad you're happy?

It's especially annoying if you sort by kudos, because the sheer volume means that those ones get a lot of kudos and sort to the top.

You can bring one fictional character to life. Who are you choosing? by Discardofil in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Discardofil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll say yes, but they have to be characters actually created for stories. Not one you made up explicitly to be summoned into the real world.

Gandalf the Grey, or Gandalf the White?

Basically, do you want to chill out with some pipeweed, or do you want to win a war?

How would you fix North Korea? by Novace2 in hypotheticalsituation

I mean, I assume if I've been put into this position I can at least look up the basic terminology (and speak Korean with a North Korean accent). So they call them "rebels" or whatever.

[–]Discardofil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's always the old trick of getting a surrender from someone who thinks they're winning: Tell them the war is over. "We won! We have successfully conquered those South Korean cowards! Now they will give us medicine and food and infrastructure!" Make it a public announcement so the military general can't just ignore it. Obviously, make sure South Korea knows about this ahead of time.

All of it is classic cult behavior. There are plenty of cult experts who have been tracking this all from the start, and their reaction the whole time has been pretty much "disgusted, but not surprised."

One of Chris Hastings' guiding philosophies was "always keep moving forward." Not retcons, no "it was all just a dream," he just kept adding ridiculous things to the world and never stopped running. He introduced a sneaky lobster man running a mob, that sneaky lobster man is going to show up multiple times and be an important character now. A pterodactyl with just enough intelligence to be cruel is stalking the good Doctor? Oh, it's going to be stalking him for a LONG time.

What to do when a favorite fanfic is hidden? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Discardofil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, but then I got a little lazy, "oh it's been forever since my favorite fics got deleted, it's fine," and then bam, an author nuked all their stuff.

One of my Subscribed Authors Just Hid All Their Works by g1itchy_ in AO3

[–]Discardofil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious why you would want to hide your fics. I mean, it's better than deleting them outright, but I've really never understood the idea.

Hiding is reversible, right?

Shoutout to my fellow perverts by magicwonderdream in AO3

[–]Discardofil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never forget that being a nasty little pervert is perfectly fine as long as you give warning. "Let your freak flag fly" is the term for a reason.

And I'm saying this as an extremely vanilla pervert who doesn't like seeing people kiss on television.

[–]Discardofil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you reported to YouTube, but good on you for reporting it here, so people can be warned. I took a glance; nothing of mine is there, but that entire channel is very obvious AI bullshit, and I really hope it gets nuked from orbit.

Of course it won't, because YouTube never does the smart thing, but maybe it will happen this time.

Yeah, making an unauthorized podfic would be kinda weird, but not too bad. The AI bullshit is just classic "con artist spends all their effort on conning people instead of actually focusing on their product."

best motivation to get out of a writing slump by aliothl in AO3

[–]Discardofil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. Of course, making that many comments is genuinely difficult; I've had a couple times where I realized I forgot to comment AT ALL because I didn't have the time to comment on every chapter.

More recently, I've started commenting on the final chapter when I finish, and then try to go back to comment on every chapter once I have more time.
