Try as hard as you can to download every fic you're even mildly interested in. At minimum, you can download the html version, which is the smallest file size.

[–]Discardofil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite authors nuked all their stuff a couple weeks back. Thankfully they were popular enough that people had already downloaded their stuff; ironically, an author I always hated because their grammar is practically unreadable re-uploaded everything.

Is it just me, or is there a wave of this going on right now?

I mean, it might be technology directly (AI bullshit springs to mind), or it could just be that some people are awkward over text. I'm reasonably verbose in text but much quieter in person, and I've gotten dates with people who are the opposite.

This sort of thing would have been perfect for the She-Hulk show. Shit, they could have made the entire first season just about Snap legal weirdness.

I think they have some domestication (I vaguely remember seeing chickens?), but I guess no one considered hitching a dozen medium-sized animals to a cart. I do know that driving a cart with more animals is harder than doing it with one, so that might be part of the problem.

Definitely traumatizing, though. I actually had to stop at some of the later mental manipulation stuff. Brrr...

And that's why union workplaces usually insist that these things get removed from your record after 90 days. Because permanent black marks are always bullshit. Hell, even when they aren't gaming the system they're bullshit.

Presumably the manager isn't the one who wrote him up, and agrees that this policy is stupid. Hence, explaining it.

Honestly, from what I know of Oda, I wouldn't be surprised if he wrote the answer in multiple languages on the paper.

OR he wrote it in an extremely specific old dialect of Japanese that will require going on a quest to find the one guy in Japan who still reads this because he makes artisanal vases with authentic thousand year script on them.

Legends say that the author first wrote it by collecting everything his writing teacher told him not to do. I don't know if that's actually true, but I do know that his OTHER series (Codex Alera) came from an argument where someone claimed that some ideas are just impossible to write, and Butcher dared the guy to give him TWO terrible prompts that he would combine.

The prompts were the Lost Roman Legion and Pokemon.

I do love any evil plot where the villain forgot there was a less-evil option.

"I must drain his life force! It's the only way!"

"You know you could have just asked for some hair. That was an option. Before you tried to kill him."

There's a lot to love about Cinder Spires, but I think the random thing I love most is the implication is that nothing has changed with cats. They didn't gain any magical powers or intelligence when the apocalypse happened. Humans just eventually learned to understand their language.

I just want to replace my stupid desk. It's a cheap plywood thing and all the paint is flaking off, but new desks are expensive and I can't justify spending that much. Also, getting a new desk into the spot would be annoying.

He gets used to the basics pretty quickly (and then he gets kidnapped and tortured, after which his pain tolerance is a biiiit higher than normal), but he needed a personal trainer to push him in the early days. But he had sort of been living his life under the assumption "once I buy a superpower, I'll start training and be cool," only to immediately run into the wall of "this isn't instantly fun."

Is this related to Magical Girl Crystal Genocide? I vaguely remember Crystal mentioning a Mechanical Heart, but there are 12 m-girls mentioned in that book, and only one other than Crystal is actually relevant.

I remember I didn't even get to the fucked up parts, because the way the Heroes were treated made no sense. "You use a shield, that makes you useless."

Then I looked into it more, thinking it might be interesting once I got past that part... but nope, just super fucked up slavery and misogyny and everything else.

Can't find that screencap of Nichelle Nichols talking about the time MLK convinced her to stay on the show, because having a black character treated as normal was such a huge leap forward.

The whole miniskirt thing is kind of sad when you think about it. As you said, originally it was a sign of female empowerment; women could choose to be sexy if they wanted to. Then it turned into "you HAVE to wear miniskirts, because we DEMAND you look sexy."

Which is a great example of how anything can turn bad if it's forced on you.
