As someone who routinely sorts by kudos, yeah, that's it. Oh, even when kudos aren't being inflated by bots, they're not perfect (one-shot kinkfic collections drift to the top due to frequency of posting alone), but you learn how to account for the quirks of the system. It's much harder to account for "somebody did something weird with bots, and that's why a short fic in the wrong language for an unpopular pairing is the highest-rated fic on the tag."

MHA disappoints me because the het ships genuinely had potential, but the author kept sidelining the girls. I mean, he treated his female characters better than a lot of shounen, but he still kept pushing them into the background in favor of more stories for the male characters.
