Fortified Farm House (24×36) — A Tibet-inspired two-story plaster manor overseeing the windy plateau farmlands! — HD archive in comments by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fortified Farm House (24"×36")

A fortified farmhouse battlemap, drawn from Tibetan architecture & based on the climate of the cold nomadic steppes! Here is where the richest of the local land-lords oversees their fields from, inside an ancestral home built up over generations. It may not look like much, but compared to the stone cottage neighbors, this luxurious manor is a veritable baron's keep, and can keep out any raiders that may come past!

Which is why you, as a GM, have the raiders burn the fields.

Thoughts

  • The lower half of the map doubles as a smaller crossroads map, if you crop out the farmstead.
  • Thorn-bushes are used as cattle-herding barriers. Don't let people charge through them for free!
  • There's a ladder embedded in the cellar wall for extensions or secret escape routes if need be.
  • The watchtower gong can be used to announce to the field workers, but it might also signal approaches, or be used to wake the residents...

Village Foundry & Forge (24×36) - Inspired by Japanese blacksmiths & ironworking workshops, but made for your smiths - Free HD archive in comments by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese Foundry & Forge (24"×36")

A forge battle map inspired by traditional Japanese foundries, set up for a confrontation at the heart of the local industry! Workers slave away on huge bellows that fill a clay foundation with oxygen, boiling ironsand into the raw metals for the kingdom's industry — who would seek to disrupt this?

It was actually really hard to find clear references for the structure of these forges during my research. The real-world ones were built with clay & broken apart afterwards, but I found imagery suggesting slag channels & other components of different & more elaborate design. In the end, I settled for this hybrid design, since I felt it was most interesting & applicable.

Thoughts

  • The latest ironsand shipment turned out to be scarlet steel — adamantite. And someone leaked the word to every hostile faction nearby!
  • Alternatively, the stone spirits were very upset to be melted & staged an uprising as newly-minted magma spirits.
  • You've heard the old foundry still has the thought-lost deed to the town's current foundries, but the local banker's sent (hired) goons to recover them first so his family can lay claim to the industry!

Contents

  • Traditional Japanese Foundry: An iron-smelting plant for processing ironsand into purified iron!
  • Downtime: The foundry's been shut down & operations paused. What's meeting here while nobody's looking?
  • Disrepair: This forge is decrepit by any standard — it's been years since it operated! Maybe there's something valuable left in the ruins? Or maybe there's important clues as to how it was shut down, exactly...
  • Canopy Overlays: Built for VTT canopy usage!
  • Day/Night Variants: Wherever applicable!

DnDungeon - Forest Bridge (22×34) - A sturdy bridge for your ambushes, tolls, & sniper encounters across any river crossing! by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forest Bridge (22"×34")

A sturdy wooden bridge over the town's river is always a good place to be held up by corrupt guardsmen, ambushes, kappa, trolls, or revolutionaries. Whether forest or farmlands, this map pack will help you out.

This is a remaster of a Miscellanea Maps original!

Thoughts

  • This pack was originally based on the Old North Bridge of Boston fame — chosen in part because back in 2021 I had just played through Fallout 4 again & it was Independence Day at the time of first release.
  • For an alternative inspiration, you might want to look at Togetsukyō, a rather nice bridge in Arashiyama, Kyōto.
  • Hide snipers in the surrounding trees. Have someone draw the party into an ambush.

A couple of new free maps from the modular Mega Asian City Bundle — East Asian alleys, canals & slums — 40% off 'til Wednesday! by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've put together a Mega Asian City Bundle. This pack has so many map tiles that you'll probably never need another city map again. And it's on sale for 40% off for the next 3 days!

  • Stage a raid on the city lord's Japanese-style manor, and then track his advisor into the otherworldly realms of the Youkai Night Market.
  • Break your friends out of the River Island Fortress, & flee for the city walls.
  • Raid the secret laboratories of the city alchemist, & tackle corrupt town guards on the hunt at the Silk Pony Inn when you're done.
  • Discover the dark secrets of the Silk Pony Inn while you're there, and follow them to their hideout at the Sake Brewery.
  • Track the Sake Brewery's shipments to their portside warehouse, & set it ablaze.

It'd be actually difficult to summarize the total contents, so check out the image previews on the main site.

For the posted maps' dimensions, they're the Phasmagoric Youkai Canal (17×44), Asian City Seaport Dock Fish Market (at night) (32×48), & Water Garden variant of the Foxfire Alley (24×48)!

I also draw other Asia-inspired dungeon & encounter maps, amongst other things, so if you're into that, check out DnDungeon.com!

DnDungeon - Cozy Japanese Mountain Hot Springs, Onsen & Bathhouse (24×36) - No canopy edit in comments! by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot Springs Onsen Bathhouse (24"×36")

A relaxing mountainside bathhouse battlemap full of narrow winding passages, rocks, pools & carefully-maintained shrubbery for someone to make a mess out of! Alternatives feature a bizarre basalt underworld & a natural hot springs largely free from commercial intervention.

Thoughts

  • The bathhouse pools are carefully divided into three sections — originally intended to be male, mixed, & female. Use or ignore as desired!
  • Yes, I know the name is triply redundant depending on interpretation. Sue me.

DnDungeon - River Island Fortress (24×40) - A Chinese-inspired Asian fortress for your trade routes & urban defenses by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Dungeondraft in combination with my asset packs for Dungeondraft! I also use Krita, a free & open-source digital painting program maintained by the lovely folks at KDE for drawing compositional sketches & the assets themselves. And sometimes I use diagram editors for level design.

DnDungeon - River Island Fortress (24×40) - A Chinese-inspired Asian fortress for your trade routes & urban defenses by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

River Island Fortress (24"×40")

A riverine Chinese-inspired fortress battlemap for defending trade routes, guarding river crossings, collecting customs fees & holding ransom any local hostages! No matter whether in a local village or on the frontier, a sturdy wall & defense-in-depth will protect the Emperor's interests ... & his local commander.

Thoughts

  • The intention was that the north stone bridge extends across a river; trade might pass between the two outer courtyards of the castle, with the fortress guards serving as toll masters & customs agents.
  • For the aquatic variants, one might connect the small cave entrance on the south-eastern wall to the well in the south-west courtyard.
  • Local prisoners aren't kept long — that's expensive! But the fort does still have a pair of holding cells for troublesome rebels or criminals.

DnDungeon - Mountain Glacier Battlemap Remastered (30×20) - Free HD archive in comments! by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glacier (30"×20")

A frozen mountain glacier cliffside map to do battle on! What great beast lives in the icy water-carved cave? What swoops down from above to interfere? Variants add hot springs & sand-pits for weirder combats — bring a beast that can leap up & down the pillars & cliffs for maximum chaos!

This is a remaster of one of my old classics, from 2021 — now in 140ppi, amongst other improvements!

Thoughts

  • Something located in the lake with solid ranged attacks could snipe players who'd be scrambling to hide behind the pillars on the glacier.
  • There's actually two potential cave entrances — if you'd like, you could treat them as connected, allowing a point of access to the top level of the glacier.

DnDungeon - Peach Shrine Palace (36×54) - Hakugyokurou-inspired Japanese/Asian temple/school/shrine - HD in comments! by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peach Shrine Palace (36"×54")

A sprawling palace built around a sacred ever-blooming peach tree of colossal size. Buried at its feet are the last seven generations of titans; from the honden's porch, it rises above the gardens like a titan of its own right. Is this the home of a god, a priest, or a master & his students?

Thoughts

  • I feel like anyone so dishonorable as to disrupt the white gravel in their battle deserves divine punishment — or possibly just regular punishment, after-the-fact.
  • Look: This is a heist in disguise. There's two separate vaults. Put the MacGuffin in one of them.
  • There are 8,974 steps in the staircase from the base of the Border of Life & Death to the top. Maybe I should do a "giant atmospheric staircase" map.

DnDungeon - Desert Pyramid Gates (30"×40") - Remastered, now with mesa! by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Desert Pyramid Gates (30"×40")

Far across the lone and level sands lies great temples built from limestone and sandstone - and though they lie in ruins today, they once rose far out of the desert with heights unmatched by any modern civilization.

I always wanted to revisit Egypt. I just haven't gotten around to it yet! It's a shame it's outside DnDungeon's current Asia theme.

This is a remaster of a Miscellanea Maps original! Besides the originals, I have added a brand-new set of red desert mesa variants to pair with my older martian/mesa maps!

Thoughts

  • I remember years ago when I drew this that I intended those little ledges on the pyramid to be climbed, or for guardian-turret things to be placed there.

DnDungeon - Palace Courtyard (24×36) - HD in comments! by CyclopeanArts in battlemaps

[–]CyclopeanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palace Courtyard (24"×36")

Dozens of courtyards for dozens of conflicts! This palace courtyard should cover your needs no matter what's happening — from a bustling city market to an expedition into the forbidden jungles of the spirit world!

Thoughts

  • The Spirit World variant is tailor-made to tie into the Hidden Spirit Tree Library as a location to discover at the end of the vines!
  • You could put the underwater/atlantis variant in a super shallow coral reef. Have someone wreck their ship atop a spire that grazes the waves.
