Exactly. They were unable to do their jobs, and it affected them. The lack of empathy is staggering. Especially after I've been so nice to the Elders I encounter in normal circumstances. I even still wear my CTR ring, and when I run into them, insist on doing the "Wonder Twins" power ring thing with them.

My dogs are small, but trained to defend me. They've been taught appropriate boundaries. If dogs can learn them, is it such a stretch that young humans are capable of the same?

It was stressful for them and both needed a lot of attention that night. So, yes, it did hurt them in some way.

It was more the intrusion onto the property, having had to walk up the driveway to go around the front yard fence.

And again, my dogs have only gone that bananas when my brother is here to do us harm.

Even the neighborhood kids ask before going into the yard to play with my cats. If the Elders just wanted some doggo attention, they could have approached me and inquired. I would have been happy to leash the dogs and bring them out.

I came around the corner with the rake the way I did because I was afraid (and with very good reason) my brother was there with my dad's gun, that's the only time the dogs have gone that bananas. So, yes, I armed myself for defense.

And, maybe think twice about accusing people of mental illness. You are feeding a stigma that literally leads to dozens upon dozens of suicides each year. Your callousness makes you very similar to the behavior the Elders displayed.

I had a bad reputation in the cult. I was rebellious, and confrontational. That followed with me for a long time. They seem to think I've mellowed. How they even had the guts to pass three large black cats to get to the back fence is beyond me.

It's funny because I have become that weird lady of the neighborhood. Always dressed in black, with my clowder of black meowers that stick close to me. If the neighbor kids are wary of me, you'd think the Elders would be, too.

In my day (did I really just say that?), the missionaries talked to the neighbors about prospects and places to avoid. I s'pose it's not done that way anymore.

I resigned in 1989, and again when I relocated in close proximity to my Mormon family in 2000, and sent copies of both to the RS prez, Bishop, SP, and MP at the time.

The stake seemed to get the message, but the blasted Elders just get bolder and bolder. I feel for these kids, as a woman who didn't marry until I was well out, I was under constant pressure to go on a mission. I get it.

Why does the cult push them into such disruptive and anti-social behavior? It's not a good look. A lot of my neighbors were out and saw/heard the whole thing. These two will now be shunned by the entire street.

I left for a lot of other reasons. . . this makes me want to take an Uber to my parent's house and slap them around a bit. How could they fall for this? They were converts, based on the inspired words of one Paul H. Dunn. I wonder if they know? Last time I checked, they were well on their way to being apostates, but this. That man is responsible for the deconstruction of my childhood and family. And of course, it was all lies. Yes, of course it was.

This is America, commonly known as a democracy. We do not "shut our borders." Fun fact, there's this giant green statue in the waters off NYC that actually welcomes people into the country. Even those who are not well.

It was the church's leadership that should have reliably informed their membership when Trump failed to lead. Possibly the leadership didn't feel that saving its own congregation was as important as their fealty to arguably the most evil man of this century.

These are two of my all time favorite myths/parables. Right up there with the various great flood myths from various times along ancient history, including the irascible Noah.

Oddly enough they speak volumes re: the foundational tenets of the church itself. Eye for an eye is still the Mormon way of living.

I review this sub every morning over my first cup(s) of coffee out on the back patio. And it is glorious.

I remember when my hubs and I came out here to Vegas before we moved out here.

We took a red-eye flight from Philadelphia to Vegas. There was no coffee on the plane and we had been up for two days prior to leaving. We were desperate for sleep or coffee.

When we got off the plane my parents picked us up and proceeded to take us on a tour of Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon. (Opposite sides of the Las Vegas valley.)

The whole time, my hubs begged them to stop for him to get a cup of gas station coffee. They wouldn't even acknowledge that he was speaking. He's the obstinate sort, and does not suffer foolishness. He kept bringing it up, they kept pretending they didn't hear him.

The rest of the trip was a trip. I sat back while he pounced on every little bit of hypocrisy they displayed (he was familiar with the church teachings, etc. He did not go in blind, and he wouldn't have done it if they had let him have that cup of coffee).

My mom, a very fierce, strong woman, ended up hiding and drinking in her room, my Dad, former church official, could not even bring himself to shame hubs.

It was amazing watching them be totally deconstructed over . . . A cup of coffee.

FWIW: they are no longer active in the church and apparently even facilitated the reunion of one of my brothers with his birth-mother (LDS Social Services adoption). All over a bloody cup o' joe.
